Could you try homeschooling a couple of days a week first justa to see how it goes? Would the school be supportive?

It's out really snowy in Auckland this week ladies? We're in Sydney which is very rainy. It feels like a very big city. Which is nice to boost but I like my big little city.

giantpenguinmonster · 28/05/2013 11:31

Visit....

4x4 · 28/05/2013 12:42

Oh Is electric very pricey in NZ ?

Sibble · 28/05/2013 20:15

OMG cold enough for everybody - HRV says it's 0 degrees in the loft Shock

frikonastick · 28/05/2013 22:43

What the frikken helll!!! It. Is. FREEEEEEEEZZZZZZZIIIINNNNGGGGGG. Just had to walk DD to school as DH is in Auckland with the car and my poor ears are still burning like hellfire.

Everyone cross fingers for DH he is in his interview call back, if this comes off we can stay in lovely tauranga! Well, I mean, it's not so lovely right this minute. What with it being FREEEZING.

I am just grumpy because I have a terribly sore throat and have been fighting off being sick and there is a ton of bloody laundry to do.

Lol! I really am grumpy aren't I Grin

We don't have to move again!!!

And DD can stay in her school!!!

We did it. We really really did it. After 4 years of planning, it's all coming true.

So happy

Great news frik. Now you can start house shopping. :-)

BBQWidow · 29/05/2013 08:15

Congrats Frik! That's stunning news for your family.

vvviola · 29/05/2013 09:32

Wonderful news Frik! So pleased it's all working out.

(Not going to bring the mood of the thread down, so I may be back to ramble on this another time - there's some dreadful news coming from home at the moment regarding creches, that I'm trying very hard not to listen to)

Anyway, to return to the more important thing.... woo hoo, hurray for Mr Frik :) Hope you've uncorked a bottle of wine by now frik!

meerkate · 29/05/2013 14:17

frik that is truly brilliant news - hurray! WELL DONE to mr frik indeed. So great to know that you are staying put and can put down roots and really get into Tauranga life. Yay Smile

Lovely to catch up with your news, ladies - been busily catching up with family and friends, it being half-term over here. STILL no news re the Auckland job!! There seems a massive lack of urgency on their side. We have been waiting to talk to the unit's boss for about a month now, maybe even more. He is apparently back at the end of this week.

Still pursuing options in W Australia but that isn't going to happen any time soon, I don't think. So we must be patient some more Smile

justa tell me about your home-schooling plans - do you think it will be better for you and your family to just KNOW you're home-schooling, full stop, and not have the uncertainty every day of whether your boy(s) are going to school or not? I have the utmost admiration for anyone considering home schooling, packing my kids off to school with glee every day as I do Wink and it's clear from everything that we know of you from this thread and from your amazing blog that if anyone can make a good, nay, excellent fist of H-S'ing it's you. Keep us posted re DH's reaction (which sounds akin to what I imagine my DH's initial reaction would be, were I to put this to him. But I would hope that he would listen to my reasons, as your DH will undoubtedly listen to yours).

Off to play badminton with the kids...half-term continues...already been jogging (!!! Let's draw a veil over that mental image, shall we?) with DS, gone swimming, walked to town and back with them, played ping pong endlessly inbetween all the above, and it's only flippin' half two in the afternoon...

Thanks so much everyone, very happy household here Smile when DH got home (after driving all the way to Auckland for interview to get there and be told oops sorry interview is in Hamilton!!!! Mad dash to Hamilton and then back to tauranga) DD dashed to the door and said, daddy I'm so PROUD of you! Cue delighted parents with damp eyes, until she followed it up with, and now you buy me presents again!! Lol!! She clearly noticed the drop in treats while we were unemployed! Little monkey.

Then somewhat anti climatically I came down with a passed on from kindly cold a couple of days ago and I think with the sheer relief of DH getting the job I rewarded myself with a massive migraine, so ended up going to bed at 5pm and not surfacing until now. Poor DH, not much of a celebration! And of course I am stuffier than a stuffed thing this morning, el yucko to colds! Ooohhh, my ear just popped, that's much better.

Vvvv, you go right ahead!

Justa, glad DH is more on board :-)

Meerkate, see! There is hope! DH and I spent 4 years planning and waiting etc etc, so hang in there. Actually, DH is just reminding me that it's really been 9 years of planning and saving, just 4 years of actually applying and going through the visa application part. And in that time we moved country 4 times in order to keep earning enough that we could make our NZ dream come true. Reading that back sounds mad!

I think I'm a bit giddy Grin

Lol, no! It's been quite the journey. Neither of us have a home country (both sets of parents were expats too) and we don't share common passports so neither of us can live in our spouses native country without visas etc etc, and DD was born in Dubai, so we really needed to have a nationality. We picked NZ because we could get in (first and foremost!) first language is English, we could buy property as non natives, crime low, jobs available and that we could after a period of time, be eligible for passports. With those criteria, there were actually only about 4 places in the world to choose from really, and we liked NZ over the others best.

Congratulations to la famile Fric. Wonderful news to start a looooong weekend on!

lollystix · 30/05/2013 12:15

Huge congrats Frik. Grin

Sibble · 31/05/2013 02:55

What's everybody up to for the long weekend - we're heading to the beach after boys sport Saturday where I will go for long walks and read but mostly prepare for my exam on Tuesday and conference talk next Saturday. Will be glad when the next 10 days are over then can kick back and relax properly. Have fun everybody.

AngryBeaver · 31/05/2013 06:35

Whoop whoop! Well done mr frick...fabulous news!!
I too, had no idea that you'd been through all that to get here!
Holy shit sticks!
Really pleased you can settle now, it's a lovely feeling int it?!

My two cents worth justa.
I think the, Am I, am I not, going to school today ? scenario, must be quite unsettling for the boys.
And as they seem to like homeschooling, and you seem to be rather a good teacher...why the hell not! Grin

Meerkate, phew you've made me quite exhausted just reading that!
I must have a curry and a large glass of vino to garner my energy again!

I'm supposed to be doing a 10k run tomo as part of training for my July race, but after the Giardia, I'm still recovering physically.
I haven't run for quite a while and think 10k straight off, would be asking for troube!

Sibble, our long weekend will consist if house viewings, meal with friends, fishing and the "cinema" on waiheke...can't wait to experience that!!

Happy Friday everyone Wine Wink

vvviola · 31/05/2013 07:07

It's a long weekend, therefore DD2 must be sick Hmm

Got sick a couple of times last night and scuppered plans (again!) for a one on one day with DD1. Doesn't seem to be a lasting thing though.

MIL arrives tomorrow stupidly early in the morning for the weekend. We (DD1 & I are meant to be going to Disney on Ice with her and some of the in laws).

No other plans but DH did say he'd asked MIL if she might watch the girls for an hour or so on Sunday to let us go out for brunch. Would be lovely but not holding my breath Wink

AngryBeaver · 31/05/2013 08:29

Holds hands with vvv, the two boys have 40 deg temp Hmm
