Prices have gone utterly mental in Auckland, haven't they. There is no way that we'd be able to live where we do now, if we were trying to buy now.

I've got tomorrow off work...except I'm going to be doing work. That's not right, is it!

WhatSheSaid · 15/08/2013 07:16

We paid 6% over CV when we bought - we'd be screwed now.

Congrats on the 6 months frik!

vvviola · 15/08/2013 07:18

No BBQWidow that most certainly is not right! Mind you, I've done it plenty of times over the years myself.

I am (again) having MIL issues (I won't clog up the thread with them, but there's a thread over on AIBU). They're minor in the great scheme of things but...

Oh and AB, definite for a meet up soon. A girl in one of my classes lives on Waiheke and I said "oh I have a friend who lives there" and then she looked at me a bit oddly when I couldn't tell her where Grin I nearly told her you were actually a figment of my imagination WinkGrin

WhatSheSaid · 15/08/2013 07:29

Heehee, just read you AIBU viola. Quite glad I don't have in laws in he same time zone as me :)

I agree you should not answer, or get caller ID, or give handset to dh to answer if it rings.

I do have a really lovely (childfree) friend who always seems to phone about 5pm...always wants a civilized lengthy chat...then politely enquires in a very surprised tone "Oh, do the children need you?" (when she starts hearing the murderous screams of a 5 and 3 yo in the background)

My Nan has been hospitalised. This morning I booked a flight for tomorrow night after ds2s birthday part. I have just received a text to say she may not last the night. I am so torn I don't know whether to go tonight, whether they will change my ticket, ds2 is in tears not wanting me to go. Such a shit - really don't know what to do!

WhatSheSaid · 15/08/2013 22:23

So sorry to hear about your nan Sibble. I don't know what to advise, it's a horrible dilemma.

BBQWidow · 15/08/2013 22:54

Oh no, Sibble. Every strength to you. Where abouts is she?

Sibble · 15/08/2013 23:06

She's in hospital in Essex. I have tried to bring my flight forward but I am on the earliest Singapore flight. I booked in the early hours before I was thinking straight. In hindsight I should have just gone to the airport and waited but ds2 was crying this morning and I couldn't think straight. Now I am thinking of going out to the airport when dh can get home and see what they can do, they must have flights for emergencies.

Wouldn't be so bad if the ward would answer the phone so I could speak to somebody medical rather than my family - my sister is saying she looks dreadful, don't see her like this, she won't last the night. Mum is saying wait for the funeral Hmm you could come and she could be in a coma for any length of time. While I don't want her to suffer I want her to hold on to Sunday UK time when I get there. Venting on here really as I can't concentrate on work....Writing it down might help me decide?

giantpenguinmonster · 16/08/2013 01:48

If she is concious and you want to go now, then go now. I've always said I would rather see the person alive than go to a funeral.

Can you ring and ask about the compassionate travel policy?

giantpenguinmonster · 16/08/2013 01:53

Oh, and I forgot to say how sorry I am Sibble.

BBQWidow · 16/08/2013 02:12

It's horrible feeling every inch of how far away we are here from the UK at times like this. I don't think there is any right way of doing this, and I hope that you get there and feel that you've done right by yourself.

Kia kaha xx

Frikonastick · 16/08/2013 02:58

Go. Just go. Sometimes the greatest comfort is in the doing.

So sorry sibble. Thinking of you xxx

AngryBeaver · 16/08/2013 03:11

Sorry sibble :(

For me, as awful as it sounds it would come down to finances.
I would only have been able to go once.
And I had everyone saying the same "she won't know you're there, don't let this be your last memory of her..."

In the end, I couldn't even go for the funeral

If you can afford to go twice, I would xx

No I am still here. I couldn't get on the flight last night so am definitely booked tonight. She is still alive! but slipping in and out of consciousness. Am just hoping she hangs on. As it turns out my Brother who is in the UK but was on holiday in Wales has a tummy bug, he's just driven 7 hours back with everybody except my SIL sick. They won't be able to go into the hospital until 48 hours after the last one is clear of the bug. I may get to see her first? Am so not looking forward to teh flight. Feel crap, havn't slept etc....

Safe journey Sibble.

I think this is one of those times when you can't change or influence the outcome and you just have to ride the rollercoaster.

We'll be thinking of you though.

BBQWidow · 17/08/2013 10:31

Safe travels, Sibble. Take care and hopefully you can get some sleep once you are on that plane and know that you are on your way xx
