Belgian mumsnetters meetup before kreecher leaves!

We need to organise this a bit in advance so that as many people as possible can come. It doesn't have to be lunch of course - we could make it dinner so that the working mums have more of a chance to come.

Any suggestions?

I woke up when the cleaner rang the bell at 8. No thunder here yet but the sky looks very black!

belgo · 01/07/2011 08:16

porto dd2 was playing with my phone and she managed to call dd1's piano teacher at 7am this morning! It went to answer phone and I have sent a hasty email apologising.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 03/07/2011 09:53

Can someone please tell me what date it is? Me and DD went to Stonemanor yesterday for the book sale. It was wonderful. We got quite a lot of Brit food too.
I can call in there and buy stuff for the picnic if I am told the date.
Thanks

monkeybumsmum · 03/07/2011 10:39

Hi Kreecher, shall we go for the 12th? Are you okay coming to mine? It's quite a long way for you... Will just PM you my address so you can have a look, and if it's too far we can try to find somewhere closer to you. Wherever we go we'll stick to the 12th if that's okay with you too Longtime? I think Ruthchan is coming too Smile

monkeybumsmum · 03/07/2011 10:41

Btw, gad you liked Stonemanor, it's great isn't it. Bit dangerous though if you're someone with not a lot of willpower Grin

kreecherlivesupstairs · 03/07/2011 10:42

Yep, 12th is fine. I can drive so that isn't a problem.
Stonemanor is FAB. I was so cross that nobody had told me of its existence before though.

RuthChan · 03/07/2011 18:53

Hi everyone.
Yes, the 12th is fine for me.
DD and DS have an ONE appointment in the morning, but I can meet up with everyone by lunchtime.

By the way, is there a book sale on at Stonemanor?
Ooh, I wanted to go there anyway. Now I have two reasons!

monkeybumsmum · 03/07/2011 19:28

Is the book sale still on? I could conceivable get there on Wednesday, do you reckon it'll still be going? When are you going Ruth?

RuthChan · 03/07/2011 20:17

I can go on Wednesday if you can Monkey.
The website doesn't mention about dates of the sale, or when it ends.
Does anyone know?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 04/07/2011 05:37

I think it was only on Saturday. It was in the carpark and looked pretty temporary. I did buy a couple of books inside though. They had a number reduced.

RuthChan · 04/07/2011 07:47

Thanks Kreecher.
Sounds like we missed it then!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 04/07/2011 12:00

There are a number of reduced books inside. When I come for the meetup, I'll bring some with me that I've read. [decluttering for move] Grin

RuthChan · 04/07/2011 18:22

I went to Stonemanor today and got the low-down.
It was a one day book sale on Saturday run, not by Stonemanor itself, but by a charity using the Stonemanor car park as a venue.
Apparently they happen about twice a year.

There were one or two reduced books inside today, but no more than usual and nothing to write home about.
I picked up a couple of items to keep my DCs busy on the aeroplane when we fly at the end of the month. That was my reason for going, so I'm happy.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 05/07/2011 10:22

But you can pop in whenever you want, reduced books excite me. I lead a tragic lonely life though.
I am going to pop in a week today to get some stuff for the picnic [very excited face]

Longtime · 06/07/2011 19:21

I have a car so will be able to make it :)

kreecherlivesupstairs · 07/07/2011 07:03

oooh, it's exciting. Even DD is looking forward to it. We went to Efteling yesterday, so she's had this weeks excitement.
I'll try to prise some of her books out of her sweaty hands. She really does have far too many. Hopefully there will be a couple of other children there who will take them.

Longtime · 07/07/2011 12:54

So Kreecher what did you and dd think of de Efteling?

OP posts:
kreecherlivesupstairs · 07/07/2011 13:00

I didn't think too much of it TBH. DD and her two friends adored it. DD had been telling me she would go on the rollercoasters and the other two girls said they wouldn't.
They all did. DD and the older sister went on one first and me and S stood waiting. For about an hour. Then we did some more walking and found a swinging pirate ship. All three went on, then it was more rollercoasters and home.
It started to rain and I was fed up. They were pretty cross at me for making them leave, but I had the car keys.
It was eye wateringly expenisve though. I spent around 300 euros.

Portofino · 07/07/2011 14:21

The charity that does the book fair is Action Aid. They have a mailing list you can register with and they send an email giving the dates of the sales. There are normally 2 a year. I have the details at home somewhere.....

Have fun at the BBQ!

Longtime · 07/07/2011 21:57

I don't like any theme parks in the holidays. They are far too busy. Too much waiting around and not much getting on the rides. The worst ever was Walibi at Halloween. Had I not bought VIP passes on the internet before going which allowed us to go to the front of the queue for a few rides, it would have a complete nightmare. Would never go back again at that time of year.

And it is pretty easy for the money to add up, isn't it? Mine know that it's sandwiches brought from home for lunch and no extras. Any souvenirs are bought with their own pocket money (mean mother that I am).

Porto, you still have 27th September booked for our trip, don't you?

So, tomorrow's the day. What time should me and DD arrive? I am planning to go to Stonemanor to buy some stuff for the picnic.
Fingers crossed for sun

monkeybumsmum · 11/07/2011 08:45

Morning! I was thinking about middayish? Then we won't be eating too late for the little ones...

Foodwise, shall we all bring something to share? I'm going to do a couple of quiches, and a green salad if that's okay with everyone? Will also probs get some strawberries for pudding...

I'm really looking forward to it, although hope that the promised rain holds off!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 11/07/2011 08:55

Ooooh lovely. I'll bring some food and some books to leave, adult and children. Me and DD need to start chucking or redistriubuting things.
See you tomorrow!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 11/07/2011 08:55

Not sure what redistribuututitn is, I think you realise it is redistributing.

monkeybumsmum · 11/07/2011 09:55

Oooh lovely Kreecher, I adore books, as does ds!
