Fell off water slide on holiday?

Hi there. Have just returned from holiday on the Canaries and whilst there visited the obligatory water park. I had been on several slide whilst there, not consumed any alcohol
And had taken regular breaks and had top on to avoid sunburn. Whilst I was riding on a four ring ride with my DH, DS and DD I fell out of my tyre and hurtled out of the slide at speed, banging my head, losing a fair bite of blood and suffering amnesia. The lifeguards were attentive and I was cared for until an ambulance arrived. I was then taken to hospital and had an overnight stay. I was given 6 stitches and on an IV drop as
Not allowed food or food drink due to possible scan the following day(not done). I had an X-ray and was then certified fit to fly by Dr. I had travel insurance and paid the excess.
My query is whether the park was negligent? The attendants kept us waiting at top of slide for approx 10 mins. I am very obese and I think they were unsure about allowing me to ride. However I had been on an identical ride previously and been ok and the wait made me more anxious and weaker as they kept telling me off and to hold on tighter and keep my back straight. I struggled to do this for the time they kept us waiting which was much longer than others.
My head is painful and I feel the holiday was ruined by the experience. Not sure what to do? Any suggestions?

It was an accident

Again how do you know?

Random makes a good point in a friendly constructive manner like any human with an ounce of sympathy

Mychildcouldnotbreaatfeed · 11/08/2017 21:25

The op knew she wasn't fit for the slide. She made the choice to go anyway.

Am sorry, but you go on that tide at your own risk,

How did you fall out op? Totally off the ride? or just off the float onto the slide?

youarenotkiddingme · 11/08/2017 21:28

You we in Tenerife.

Everyone who is injured gets a night in hospiten sur on a drip! It was a standing joke for the entire number of years I lived there!

My ds was born in that hospital Smile

But no the park aren't negligent.

riverotter · 11/08/2017 21:29

There was a recent case where a child was killed at a theme park where there had been no previous incidents.

I agree OP has been given an unnessecarily hard time here.

cheekymonk · 11/08/2017 21:29

I question whether safety procedures were followed and would like the incident to be investigated. The fact I can't remember exactly what happened. I know there were cameras so would like the footage to be viewed by someone independent. I wouldn't want someone else to go through what I did.

Did you come totally off the slide or hurtle out the end?

My ds went on quite a powerful water ride last summer.
It was high speed whilst holding onto the edges of a ring you sat in.
He's a slim 9st (was 18 at the time)and about 5ft 7.
He got forced out of the ring by the water speed and gravity and banged his head quite hard on the way down.
Luckily he didn't need stitches but he did have a bump and a headache for a few days however all these rides state that you ride at your own risk so although I agree it can happen whatever size/weight you are I also think there is always an element of risk with rides and you have to take responsibility for your own choices.
People blaming ops weight isn't very fair Confused

Wow yet another example of what a distinctly unpleasant forum this is becoming. I don't want to come on here any more. If this site cares about their as revenues and doesn't want people leaving in droves , they should address the horrible bullying which is becoming the norm. Would any of you honestly talk to someone like that in real life ? Awful.

Mychildcouldnotbreaatfeed · 11/08/2017 21:32

I'd advise you most strongly to take the name of the park out of your original post. That's asking for trouble.

cheekymonk · 11/08/2017 21:32

I can't remember exactly how I fell out. Last thing I remember is saying to my DS that the ride wasn't too bad ironically! Next thing I remember is being taken to medical room.
It was all very traumatic for all of us.

But your kids and husband will know if you came right out of the slide or just burtled into the water

Xeneth88 · 11/08/2017 21:34

I think its about time we all took responsibility for ourselves and stop this "I'll sue 'cos I'll get some money" culture. I'm no skinny mini, size. Large12-14ish, you have to be responsible! Especially on things like this.

youarenotkiddingme · 11/08/2017 21:34

My advice would be to email them your concerns and ask them to investigate - which they will have to have a review of their policies anyway due to an accident.

cheekymonk · 11/08/2017 21:34

No beepbeep. It's people like you that were probably laughing at me. Just because I'm large it doesn't make me a second class citizen.

I don't know any scan (apart from ultrasound on your liver ) that requires you to fast Hmm

cheekymonk · 11/08/2017 21:35

I didn't come out of slide, banged my head on slide

I can't remember exactly how I fell out

Surely your family can?

cheekymonk · 11/08/2017 21:36

I know cremefresh. I was scared they thought I needed an op! I didn't think it warranted a drip either!
