Fell off water slide on holiday?

cheekymonk · 11/08/2017 19:05

Hi there. Have just returned from holiday on the Canaries and whilst there visited the obligatory water park. I had been on several slide whilst there, not consumed any alcohol
And had taken regular breaks and had top on to avoid sunburn. Whilst I was riding on a four ring ride with my DH, DS and DD I fell out of my tyre and hurtled out of the slide at speed, banging my head, losing a fair bite of blood and suffering amnesia. The lifeguards were attentive and I was cared for until an ambulance arrived. I was then taken to hospital and had an overnight stay. I was given 6 stitches and on an IV drop as
Not allowed food or food drink due to possible scan the following day(not done). I had an X-ray and was then certified fit to fly by Dr. I had travel insurance and paid the excess.
My query is whether the park was negligent? The attendants kept us waiting at top of slide for approx 10 mins. I am very obese and I think they were unsure about allowing me to ride. However I had been on an identical ride previously and been ok and the wait made me more anxious and weaker as they kept telling me off and to hold on tighter and keep my back straight. I struggled to do this for the time they kept us waiting which was much longer than others.
My head is painful and I feel the holiday was ruined by the experience. Not sure what to do? Any suggestions?

You are being ridiculous.

Xeneth88 · 11/08/2017 20:51

170kg ... Ok.

GreenTulips · 11/08/2017 20:53

you accept that there is an element of risk which you've agreed to undertake

You didn't foresee a fall head injury requiring hospital treatment

What utter crap

Go to you insurer and get them to investigate

LoyaltyAndLobster · 11/08/2017 20:54

They weren't negligent, I don't understand why you are trying to make money out of the situation.

GreenTulips · 11/08/2017 20:54

FWiW - you may prevent someone else suffering the same fate -

If OP had died due to the head injury - would you all say the same?

LoyaltyAndLobster · 11/08/2017 20:55

170kg?

Mychildcouldnotbreaatfeed · 11/08/2017 20:56

The op admits that she herself thought she was too big for the ride.

That's the point at which she should have got off.

Xeneth88 · 11/08/2017 20:59

Exactly as mychild says, the OP new her weight alone was enough. She should have got off.

cheekymonk · 11/08/2017 21:06

Thanks greentulips. Of course I accept some element ofnrisk by entering a water park etc but I don't affect tomsustainnthat kind of injury. I'm a strong swimmer and I noticed afterwards when googling the park and accidents that there have been several accidents at the park, front teeth being knocked out etc. I genuinely didn't think I was risking my life by going on the slide.

Sorry OP, you seem to be getting an unnecessarily hard time here. The posters questioning/ making rude comments about your weight should be ashamed of themselves! I think it's brave to state your weight so openly! Please note this is not AIBU, OP might be wrong but she isn't being entitled! I have no idea whether you have a case here, but I can completely understand that you want to find out! It must have been an extremely scary experience for you and your family! I hope you are/ were still able to enjoy your holiday!

PinkPuffin · 11/08/2017 21:10

I'd also like to point out that the tone of this thread became decidedly more unpleasant after the OP stated her weight explicitly - really nasty!

Op it's people like you that are the scum of the earth. Sue for any stupid reason

What??

She was hospitalised - you don't expect that on a water slide -

That's why they have insurance - it's covered in your entrance fee -

Nobody knows if the park was negligent until they review the incident

Mychildcouldnotbreaatfeed · 11/08/2017 21:14

You have personal responsibility.

You knew you weren't fit for the ride and did it anyway. (Fit by dint Of weight or being weak or nervous or whatever. But you knew)

cheekymonk · 11/08/2017 21:15

Shut up somewhere. I'm not scum at all. I'm just questioning my options. It's no skin off your nose is it?
I agree, a lot of nastiness regarding my weight. It's an easy target 🎯 isn't it?

somewhereovertherain I have reported your utterly vile post.

OP, I posted on MN about demanding compensation once and got a roasting too. MN doesn't seem to like it for whatever reason!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 11/08/2017 21:15

I noticed afterwards when googling the park and accidents that there have been several accidents at the park, front teeth being knocked out etc.

The key word there is accident.

At a place like this accidents will happen.

You say yourself you weren't sure yet you made the decision to still go down.

Sometimes you have to stop looking for someone else to blame for our own bad decisions.

cheekymonk · 11/08/2017 21:16

Thanks pinkpuffin for your support.

Did you hurtle out of the slide and land on tarmac as in you escaped the confines of the slide or did you just come hard out of the chute to the water? (Does that make sense)

RandomDent · 11/08/2017 21:17

What outcome do you want from this? E.g. The park owners to be reprimanded, money for yourself? This will determine what route if any you take. If you think they need to sort out their procedures, report them to their local council. If you're after cash, attempt to sue. But think this: Are you still injured, or just a bit pissed off that things didn't go to plan? Are you losing money as a result, e.g. Having to take time off work? Be honest with yourself. :)

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 11/08/2017 21:17

MN doesn't seem to like it for whatever reason!

Genuine reasons for suing fine.

This isn't one of them.

I repeat OP what are you hoping to get out of suing?

MissBax · 11/08/2017 21:19

How were they negligent?!

LoyaltyAndLobster · 11/08/2017 21:22

Op it's people like you that are the scum of the earth. Sue for any stupid reason

Hmm
GreenTulips · 11/08/2017 21:23

This isn't one of them

How do you know unless you were there?

TheFairyCaravan · 11/08/2017 21:24

It was an accident. They happen.

I wish we could go back to a time where people accepted accidents are no one's fault and don't look for someone to sue blame.
