is this okay for the school Headmistress to do this to me? they say i parked illegally this morning, took a photo of my car and have now emailed every single parent at my DS's school with all the information. nothing has been proved! i know i've probably annoyed a neighbour but is this fair how the Headmistress has acted? Surely I must have some rights too? It's just sooo embarrassing as I count lots of the mummies as my good friends. I don't think she should have been able to do this and would like to know my legal rights and complain about this treatment. Really awful for my DS too.

Were you badly parked?

sparechange · 10/11/2015 12:49

Were you parking illegally? When you say 'nothing has been proved', do you mean the photo doesn't show you parking illegally, or do you mean that you haven't been found guilty in a court of law?

If you were, will you now stop parking illegally?

brokenmouse · 10/11/2015 12:50

Did you park across someone's drive (you say annoyed a neighbour)?. If so then good for the head!

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 10/11/2015 12:50

How do you think you annoyed the neighbour and do you do it regularly?

RhodaBull · 10/11/2015 12:50

Good. You are probably the idiot who parked across my drive and made me late for a hospital appointment.

PinkSquash · 10/11/2015 12:51

Maybe you should park properly in the first place and you won't need to embarrass your DS.

PinkSquash · 10/11/2015 12:52

Plus, a registration plate is available for anyone to see and isn't identifiable as such.

sofato5miles · 10/11/2015 12:53

Deserve eveything you get, I'm afraid.

Do the crime etc....

sleepyhead · 10/11/2015 12:54

If you did it then damn right you deserved it. Don't do it again and it won't happen again.

If you didn't do it then you're well within your rights to make a fuss about them photographing the wrong car.

They will only have done this because of selfish repeat offenders taking no notice of requests not to park inconsiderately. I very much doubt you were unaware that selfish parking was a problem at your ds's school Hmm.

VinylScratch · 10/11/2015 12:54

You parked illegally and inconsiderately and you want to make a complaint about your treatment? You got off lightly, if you blocked someone in you're lucky you didn't get towed.

MTPurse · 10/11/2015 12:54

I wish our HT would have the balls to do this, I park streets away from the school but the people who park illegally next to the school really get my back up. It won't be long before there is an accident.

Stop being selfish and stop parking illegally and you won't have a problem.

I agree it is awful for your ds and you have no one to blame but yourself.

LemonBreeland · 10/11/2015 12:54

I wish our Head would do this. Park properly in future.

Bubbletree4 · 10/11/2015 12:54

Op I'm sure this is an ok thing for the head to do. I recently received an email from school (it went to everyone!) containing photos of cars parked on zigzags and double yellow lines outside school.

I cannot comprehend quite how you think you are the victim here. Do you understand that what you did is dangerous and antisocial?

seastargirl · 10/11/2015 12:54

Probably one of the other 'mummies' took the picture and sent it to the head as they are sick of people parking illegally and causing hassle for the other parents who make the effort to park correctly!

I wish our head would do this!

PotteringAlong · 10/11/2015 12:55

Did you break the law?

MediumBox · 10/11/2015 12:55

good for the head - if you indeed parked inconsiderately or illegally.

be happy if you don't appear on a 'park like an idiot' website.

PestoSkiissimos · 10/11/2015 12:55

Well don't park illegally/inconsiderately then!

MytwinisMilaKunis · 10/11/2015 12:56

I would be mortified if my parking inconvenienced a local. I would apologise to the school and whomever I inconvenienced. I would not complain to the school who no doubt got an ear full due to your parking.

gallicgirl · 10/11/2015 12:56

Did the headteacher identify the car solely by the number plate or did she also state that the car belonged to verycrossandembarrassed?

Hopefully it will be a warning to other parents to park considerately.

TheSpottedZebra · 10/11/2015 12:56

So you're fine with 'the mummies' seeing you parked like a twat in real life, but them seeing a photo of it is unacceptable?

Hmm.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/11/2015 12:57

How, exactly, were you parked? Were you on the zigzags or on double yellows?

Bad parking near schools annoys the people who live near the school, and often cause a hazard to to the children. If parents at your school are doing any of this, then I applaud your HT for her actions. If the photo proves you have parked illegally, maybe this will make you think twice before parking illegally again. I assume that the photo demonstrates how your parking was illegal - if it doesn't, then this is not going to be an effective deterrent by the HT.

You have no legal expectation of privacy in public, as far as photos are concerned.

RainbowDashed · 10/11/2015 12:57

Perhaps you should have thought of this before you parked badly. So many people do this at dd's school, and the other schools on the same street, it drives me absolutely insane. The number of times I've been blocked in by someone who thinks that the rules don't apply to them...
I raise a glass to whoever does naming and shaming for this, it really is selfish and entitled behaviour of the highest order.

Radiatorvalves · 10/11/2015 12:57

I can't see the problem and I'm a lawyer.

Learn from your mistakes, don't do it again, move on. Don't blame the Head!!

verycrossandembarrassed · 10/11/2015 12:58

Woah! I know I did something unhelpful. I haven't done it before and I won't do it again. It wasn't for very long and I couldn't see what else I could do. People regularly park across my drive and the neighbour has the right to be cross, of course. What I wanted to know is are the school allowed to publish a statement that I parked illegally without any consideration of the facts. I posted this on the legal thread, not on the "have i got what i deserved" thread. Didn't think we had a vigilante process of justice in this country. Thought we had a sensible process that would be fair to both sides in any "crime".
