mil's new neighbours have concreted over their drive

and have gone about a foot over the boundary into mils drive. what should we do? she is elderly so will need us to act on her behalf.

we have taken photos etc and the neighbours are out. the are tenents so not sure how I can contact landlord. I have left a note for then to call me etc.

I shall call council etc Monday is there something else I should do ? am

if it impervious concrete without proper drainage then you may have a way in with the council that way.

Do you know what outcome you want?

Ie do you want them to remove the concrete from her side, or concrete over the whole lot to put right?
Do you suspect it's 'just' carelessness, or is it a land grab?

I though that due to flooding concerns people weren't allowed to concrete over front gardens anymore? Or did I make that up? Why anyone wants to make their front garden look like a doctor's surgery I can't think, but there you go.

I just want them to take away the concrete

You can check ownership on land registry. If they intend to park on it they need to apply for pp to drop kerb. Concrete needs proper drainage and you need to ensure it does drain onto your dm's property.

odd, we waited for the tenants to come back and asked told them about the boundary

they said they had concreted it over themselves, they don't seem to think they needed to tell the landlord, so i guess he's in for a shock (if he cares).

They seemed quite surprised that we were angry but said they would put it right next weekend, so we shall see. it's a really odd situation though, god knows what will happen when it rains.

I fear you may soon find out. Do let ll know that their actions have encroached onto mil's property and you expect him to insist this is corrected.

There will be flooding/drainage issues if they have concreted over something that was not previously concreted ie: if the surface water runoff rate has been reduced (I work in flood risk management). Not sure if this a planning issue, but definitely sleek to the local authority drainage dept on Monday.

they have literally cemented over the whole front garden area including encroaching onto the other neighbours side. it's just weird that they seemed oblivious to the effect it will have in the winter. there is no drainage or anywhere to the water to go. i will see how to post a pic

LL is going to be in for a nasty surprise.

Here you can see how it goes over the boundary and what the cement looks like, it's like this all over, the drainpipe is basically where the gardens should meet. i can't see how they can fix this easily.

Do you know the landlord? Can you contact them?

Right up to the building like that looks like it will cause damp.

no we don't know him at all, mil thinks he lives abroad, i did ask the neighbours for his phone number but they didn't give it to me, they just said they would fix it next weekend. they really did seem to be quite surprised that there was a problem.

Even if they do fix the boundary issue there will be flooding as where will the water go?
