If it hadn't already been mentioned (sorry not read the whole thread), also get onto home insurance and let them know. It may be covered under accidental damage to the property.

If you don't let them know, any more damage it causes might not be covered!

PeruvianFoodLover · 26/07/2015 07:05

Depending on whether your MiL has legal cover as part of her home insurance, you may be able to hand it all over to the insurance company to sort - they'll be a lot more efficient finding the landlord and/or agent and might ensure that cost of reparation is met by the landlords insurers, too.

MrsJamin · 26/07/2015 07:21

I'm sure that's against building regs, it doesn't look right at all. I feel sorry for the landlord too! Hope you get someone on your side at the council.

chickenfuckingpox · 26/07/2015 07:27

still it looks smooth my council could take some tips from him they cant concrete in a straight line like that

do they rent off an agent or is it a private agreement? if its a letting agent go there first they can contact the landlord

achieve6 · 26/07/2015 17:04

OMD!! Let us know what happens.

I think the council will help you as many won't let you concrete over drives. What were they thinking?!

We have heavy rain in London today....though I wonder if heavy rain will make them put their brains back in?

AlisonBlunderland · 26/07/2015 17:11

That's a beautiful job, assuming that they are building an ice rink for the coming winter!

Agree with others who said that in some (most? all?) areas it is no longer legal to put impervious stuff down because of run-off and flooding and the water table and stuff. The local council website planning bit may well be able to help and see what the recourse is.

Agree that landlord is going to go nuts.

Poor your mum, it's shit like this that nobody needs let alone an elderly person. I am sure it's sortable though because it's definitely illegal for them to concrete on your land (!) and it's almost certainly a problem that they've put impervious stuff down both from a planning perspective and a landlord perspective.

if they rented recently you might be able to search online and see which agency it was advertised though - they would know who landlord is obviosuly - that's another thought.

southeastastra · 26/07/2015 21:39

oh good i have found the ad for rent on right move! so i can contact the agent.

Here is the pic (cropped) from the estate agent so you can see what it was like before...

Nothing to add to the advice already given, but how are getting the car onto it, that photo looks like there's a wall there.

Hope you have some luck with the agent

SouthWestmom · 26/07/2015 22:12

I can sort of see it looks neater...

southeastastra · 26/07/2015 22:17

i think the wall is still there, not sure though! i don't care how neat it looks, they have nicked mil's land!

OP posts:
EldonAve · 26/07/2015 22:21

If the wall is still there then they must be driving across MIL drive to park on the concrete ??

BitterChocolate · 26/07/2015 22:22

Do they even have a dropped kerb? It doesn't look as though there was access for a car before so if there is no dropped kerb the shouldn't be crossing the pavement to park a car there (assuming there is a pavement, I can't tell from the photos).

southeastastra · 26/07/2015 22:44

i think they got rid of the gate etc. there is already a dropped kerb as there is a shared drive with access to garages in the back. the houses are classic metroland 30s semis.

I would pay good money to see a video of the landlord's reaction when they see that monstrosity!

Wow. Phone the council at 9 am.

TeenageMutantNinjaTurtle · 27/07/2015 06:58

It sounds like they are happy to resolve the land grab issue. But I'd still pay good money to see the ll's face!

Scoobydoo8 · 27/07/2015 07:04

Planning dept should need to know I would think. They should be interested in boundary lines.

Info on Google at Gov website
'You will not need planning permission if a new or replacement driveway of any size uses permeable (or porous) surfacing which allows water to drain through, such as gravel, permeable concrete block paving or porous asphalt, or if the rainwater is directed to a lawn or border to drain naturally.

If the surface to be covered is more than five square metres planning permission will be needed for laying traditional, impermeable driveways that do not provide for the water to run to a permeable area.'

It looks prob more than 5 sq metres

PunkrockerGirl · 27/07/2015 07:21

That's awful Shock Some people really are thick.
Hope you get some luck from the council today, OP. You sound like a lovely dil by the way :-)

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 27/07/2015 07:25

My mind is boggling that anyone could think it's ok to concrete over a rented property, even without the land grab issue! Wow. Let us know what the letting agents say/do!

DarCyberOod · 27/07/2015 07:29

So have they grabbed on the other side too?
