August BFPs after IVF

kirstysmbc · 12/08/2024 08:30

Morning everyone, inspired by similar threads on this board, I wondered if anyone wanted to join me in the anxious wait from a BFP after IVF to first scans.

I had an FET on 22 July and have my first scan on 20 August. I hate this time of waiting for a scan and find it worse than the initial two week wait!

@Mfiwife sorry to hear that. It’s easy to feel low when you feel rubbish. I had to pick myself up yesterday as I feel like I am at peak of morning sickness. I believe things will be OK. Just keep going, everyday the chance of things going wrong decreases.

Mfiwife · 11/09/2024 17:01

Yes I keep trying to focus on that. I feel like I have flu today aching all over headache still incredibly sick. Will be so worth every minute when they’re in our arms @Faith2024 hope you’re feeling better soon x

Faith2024 · 12/09/2024 08:44

No more inhixa and lubion injections, nor more injections fullstop! So happy after 10 weeks. @kirstysmbc I hope you don’t have long to go on yours too.

@Mfiwife I am OK thank you, it will fly by, I can see the light now. I have all these appointments coming up and I even received my maternity exemption certificate through the post so this is happening! Last night I started looking at warm cute maternity wear.

Mfiwife · 26/09/2024 14:46

How's everyone doing? We must be hitting some 12 week scans now 🙂I wasn't due to have my scan until Tuesday next week when I will actually be 13 weeks but we went for a private scan on Saturday just gone because I had a really bad sickness bug (on top of weeks of pregnancy sickness - give me a break!) and I was worried about baby. I thought I was only 11w 4d but when we got there baby was measuring 12w and 1d and wiggling around all happy in there! Couldn't believe the size difference! And looks like a proper baby now. I've also started anti-sickness medication which is helping a bit. How is everyone else doing?

Toon49 · 26/09/2024 17:54

My 12 week scan is tomorrow can't help feeling really nervous for it! Nausea has settled over the last week hoping that's just because hormones are stabilising rather than a bad sign. Been getting some lower abdomen pain on sneezing and certain movements which I think is ligament pain! Can't help overthinking and worrying about everything but hoping my mind will be put at rest tomorrow!

kirstysmbc · 26/09/2024 21:30

@Toon49 My 12 week scan is also tomorrow and my scanxiety is through the roof. I last had a scan 3 weeks ago and all was well, but that doesn't help for more than a few days! I'm trying to hang on to the fact that I'm still feeling nauseous a lot, although I'd rather that went as well!

@Mfiwife Glad you had a good recent scan and that the meds are helping!

@Faith2024 When is your scan? I've finally come off all my meds and hoping I start to feel better from them soon. Although I'm taking aspirin throughout the pregnancy, so can't quite get rid of all of them!

Scan all went well what a relief! One of my ovaries is still massive though they've said hopefully it'll go down by the next scan anyone else had this?
Hope everything has gone okay @kirstysmbc ?

GingerTea333 · 27/09/2024 17:15

Hi everyone, Amazing news to hear how well it’s going for you. My scan is next week, feeling nervous but also hoping if it goes well things will start to feel a bit more real and I can start accepting I’m actually pregnant, it still isn’t quite sinking in!

Faith2024 · 27/09/2024 18:23

Hello all. i hope things are going smoothly for all. @Mfiwife how is the anti sickness meds going? My GP offered them but because I was already on so many meds (medicated FET) I declined. I also feel the steroids and estrogen have given me upset stomach but by the time I realised it was leas than 2 weeks left. My nausea is still there but now it’s on and off instead of all the time so I am hopeful it will fade.

@kirstysmbc I stopped injections at week 10 and now just on 1 cyclogest and 1 estrogen orally until week 14, seems extra but I am at the end. I will also be taking aspirin as well until 36 weeks but I have had to take a few weeks break due to nausea and stomach pain. They said I could start again when that settles but no later than week 14.

I had my 12 weeks scan on Monday gone and it was really lovely to see the growth spurt and that all was fine. I was 11wks5 days but baby was measuring ahead to 12wks 4 days so not sure how that works.

As part of my scan I did the combined screening, and while it came back as low risk overall for Down syndrome it was too close to the cut of mark where you needed further investigation. The other two Edwards and Patau it was in the 1000s so not worried. I spoke to screening team and also my fertility consultant who said they were probably looking at my age (42) which would bring it down and she was confident in the PGT-A testing we did. She did say if I wanted peace of mind I could do the NIPT but it was more likely than not that this embryo is good. I always planned to do that at 10 weeks but my midwife talked me out of it. The downs score was 1 in 152 and anyone who scores 1 - 150 would be sent for more testing.

Anyway to cut a long story short, I will be doing the NIPT test tomorrow and at least they ll give me a very high probability high or low risk.

Good luck @GingerTea333 and everyone else who is waiting for the 12 week scan.

Mfiwife · 27/09/2024 21:40

Glad to hear your scan all went well @Faith2024 hopefully the NIPT test will put your mind at rest. Anti sickness meds seem to be helping, had a really good day yesterday but feeling quite sick again today. I’m 13 weeks today according to baby’s growth but going by when I had my transfer I’m 12w and 3 days so who knows!

Glad your scan went well @Toon49 i did a frozen trf so not had the large ovary problem but hopefully it resolves itself! Are you in any pain with it?

can totally relate to your scanxiety @kirstysmbc @GingerTea333 I’m already nervous for my hospital scan on Tues next week. Hope everything went ok today @kirstysmbc & goes well for you next week @GingerTea333 keep us posted

kirstysmbc · 27/09/2024 22:11

@Toon49 @Mfiwife so glad your scans went well today, it's such a relief isn't it! Mine was also good, which I'm very thankful for. I was also measuring ahead but in my trust they stick to the transfer date to determine due date, as they say that is more accurate. Interestingly the sonographer did say IVF babies often measure ahead at this scan for some reason.

If they do move your due date based on size, just bear in mind that that will impact if they suggest early induction / c section, as they often do that at 39 weeks - which if they've moved your date forward would actually be earlier given we know the date of conception.

My nausea is still there and seems to be getting worse, where I now feel constantly like I'm actually about to be sick. I really hope that goes soon.

@Faith2024 I'm sorry you've had the worry of the screening scores, but the NIPT will confirm for sure. Given the embryo was tested, I'm sure you will get the confirmation that bubba is just fine 😊

Has anyone decided yet if they're going to find out the sex? I'm pretty sure I'm going to wait again, it was a lovely surprise last time after a not so lovely labour and c section!

Faith2024 · 28/09/2024 08:33

Lovely to hear scans are going well, it’s such a relief. @kirstysmbc it’s a great point about dates, the sonographer did say she will stick to the ivf due date but keep an eye on for future scans. I am planning to have a second C section, elective this time not emergency.

I will be having another scan foday as part of the NIPT which I am looking forward to. I wish I was one of those people who could wait until birth to find out but I will ask at my 20 November scan about sex. I just feel it helps me to get prepared mentally.

Sorry to hear about the ongoing nausea, for most it will fade by 14 weeks, sometimes it can last to 20 weeks. Hopefully sooner for the both of you than that! Mine is on and off now but was very disappointed to get the metallic taste in mouth back last night. Still I am hopeful it is fading.

browneyedgirl626 · 28/09/2024 10:43

Hey all, I think I'm behind most of you as I'm 8w3d now, I had a scan last week at my clinic and saw a little heartbeat and sac (polo mint) so all looked well. Of course that was a week ago and now I'm worrying again! 🤦🏻‍♀️ my next scan isn't until 11 weeks so I have a lot more waiting to go. I've been feeling super sick, more so than last time, it's so bad it wakes me up at night, I don't think the pessaries and pred helps 🤢

Really nice to hear everyone's scan updates and positive news x

Faith2024 · 02/10/2024 11:37

Hi all, I hope more positive scans.
Our NIPT test came back low probability for all 3 syndromes (1 in 10 000). We know nothing is guaranteed but our minds are at ease. The test also included the sex of the baby 🙈. We haven’t looked yet. We’ll do it together soon.

@browneyedgirl626 I agree that the meds definitely make the nausea worse. Hang in there!

browneyedgirl626 · 02/10/2024 20:45

Thank you @Faith2024 I'm clinging on 😅

Good news about your nipt results, you must be relieved. Mine is a euploid embryo too but where I live in NI they don't offer nipt testing unless you pay for it, I think if I make it to 12 weeks I will cross that bridge too 🤞🏻

Mfiwife · 10/11/2024 21:02

Hey, how’s everyone getting on? Has anyone had their 20 week scan yet?

Faith2024 · 11/11/2024 15:54

Hi 👋 @Mfiwife . How is your pregnancy going? All is well at my end. I have my 20 weeks scan next Wednesday. I am
looking forward to the scan as it’s been a while. I have been having lots of movements (2nd child) since last week so that is reassuring. It’s not as often as bigger babies though.

I havn’t bought anything for baby yet but feel like I can start to think about it after 20 weeks scan.

GingerTea333 · 11/11/2024 17:12

Hello ladies! Glad to hear it’s all going well for you 😊 a few more weeks yet for my scan, no movements yet so just hoping everything is ok in there. Finally started to tell people since I’m getting too big to hide the (mostly bloating) bump!

When did you start to feel movements with your first baby? I’m getting impatient!

Faith2024 · 12/11/2024 09:30

@GingerTea333 good to hear things are going well. Morning sickness faded around 16 weeks so I am feeling a bit more human.

Movements can depend on position of placenta & baby. It can be from 16 weeks up to 24 weeks so really varies. I can’t quite remember with my first child but I think it was just before my 20 weeks scan. With second babies you just might be able to spot movement sooner.

Mfiwife · 12/11/2024 10:20

Hi all, glad to hear everyone is doing well! I have my 20 week scan on Friday, feeling a bit nervous but have started to feel baby move lots the last few days which is lovely. I also had a scan at 16 weeks and found out we're having a girl so feel a bit better knowing everything was looking good then! I felt the odd small tap from about 18 weeks but it's been since 19 weeks i've felt it properly! My sickness also went between 14 and 16 weeks thank god! For those who have had 20 week scans before, how do they differ to 12 weeks? Are they much more detailed? And what are they looking for?

Mfiwife · 12/11/2024 10:21

How far along are you @GingerTea333 x

Zeeha · 12/11/2024 11:18

Hi @Mfiwife the 20 week scan is usually longer. They are carefully checking for potential defects, so are systematically reviewing everything and being very thorough. Don't be surprised if there's a lot of time where you can't see the screen and all is quiet because they need to concentrate. Once they've completed their checks, they should talk you through what they were checking whilst showing you on the monitor. The NHS website explains what defects they will be screening for and provides information on these if you wish to read ahead and be informed. With my last pregnancy I just zoned out and shut my eyes until they were ready to talk me through it and luckily all was well.

My anomoloy scan is on 23rd December when I should be 20+3.

GingerTea333 · 12/11/2024 12:12

Mfiwife · 12/11/2024 10:21

How far along are you @GingerTea333 x

18 weeks, so probably a little way to go before I feel anything!

Toon49 · 12/11/2024 16:32

Glad everyone's pregnancy is going well! I'm 19 weeks tomorrow, not really felt movement yet but definitely getting a little bigger had to buy new trousers! My 20 week scans next Friday can't wait to get it over with and hoping everything's okay as can't help feeling more and more paranoid the closer it gets!

Mfiwife · 13/11/2024 08:18

Thank you so much for the info @Zeeha it does make me feel less nervous now I know what will happen! If your placenta is at the back like mine is you should feel them very soon @GingerTea333 :) & I think it’s so normal to feel nervous @Toon49 but it’s so much more likely to be all ok than not. Hope you all get on ok & carry on growing gorgeous healthy babies!
