IVF/ICSI April 2024

Hopefully find others in a similar boat 🙏

Just made my ‘Day One’ call to the clinic this week to set the ball rolling this will be my second cycle, first one failed on 12th Feb 2024.

Bit of background to how we got here, I have had 4 ectopics since Nov 2020 2 resulting in emergency surgery and losing both my tubes. No reason why our first cycle failed, we will be doing IVF/ICSI this time round.

Anyone joining me in the April emotional rollercoaster? X

@Hopingtobe4 no they would just disappear on their own (I think they get absorbed in to your body) 😊
It’s really common for consultants not to be able to reach one of your ovaries. One of mine is higher up too but my consultant has got something to enable him to reach them (not sure what it is, he did tell me but it was a technical name)

Of course this makes sense,Now. I have no idea if they have anything to reach them or not,he couldn't with the internal scan and had to do an abdominal. The full appointment was over in 5 minutes he left before I was dressed so no Time for questions lol

@Hopingtobe4 hi, I had the same issue flagged on my scan but they managed to reach my ovary fine on the day so it was not worth worrying about. I actually wish they hadn't mentioned it, but I guess it would be worse if they couldn't reach it and you weren't prepared. I asked about it on the morning of EC and the main nurse was pretty confident it would be fine and it was, so hopefully yours will be the same x

Aw that's good to hear. Hopefully I'll be the same. I think how they are going to sedate me has changed following the scan so they probably had to tell me and the fact they actually couldn't find the right ovary so had to do it via abdominal scan lol.

Lucylaughing · 12/04/2024 16:19

@Hopingtobe4 yeah fair enough, they definitely want you to be prepared just in case, and it's good to know in advance, but fingers crossed for a good outcome for you

Crushed23 · 14/04/2024 17:03

Hi ladies,

How long did it take after egg collection for the bloating and cramps to go away for you? The nurse said around a week. What have been people’s experiences?

I had my EC first thing Friday morning and I am still severely bloated, have cramps and feel low/flat 2.5 days later… can’t imagine days and days more of this!

Lucylaughing · 14/04/2024 17:44

@Crushed23 I'm suffering too, sorry to say. My EC was Wednesday and felt mostly back to normal Tues-Fri last week (transfer was Monday). But my belly has swelled massively and I'm so bloated and sore this weekend. If I still feel rough tomorrow I'm going to ring the clinic to see if they think it sounds normal.

Crushed23 · 14/04/2024 18:00

@Lucylaughing So immediately after your collection on Wednesday and up to your transfer on Monday you felt fine?

I think I will give it a week then ring the clinic also.

Lucylaughing · 14/04/2024 18:09

@Crushed23 no, sorry, my message was a bit confusing.
Weds (EC) -> Monday (transfer day): bloating, cramping in pelvic area, sore to wee or have a full bladder, but getting better slowly across the week

Tues-Fri -> physically much better, bloating and soreness went away. Comfortable back working in skinny jeans with stretch. Wore a fitted stretchy dress Fri evening without feeling too big in the belly. Just emotional and had heartburn / indigestion (presumably from progesterone)

Sat afternoon -> Sun - belly swollen up like a balloon, pelvic pain and cramps, pain in ovary area when moving around. Feeling really full and "tight" in the belly... And today I've had intense stomach cramps when eating my meals, although I haven't been sick. It hurts quite a bit when I get up from sitting and also when I lie down.

Don't know if anyone else has had this either? I feel rotten

Crushed23 · 14/04/2024 20:43

@Lucylaughing I’ve only had the EC but i have the symptoms you list at the bottom - really really bloated, pelvic pain & cramps etc. It’s so uncomfortable and doesn’t appear to be getting any better :(

Lucylaughing · 14/04/2024 20:47

@Crushed23 sorry you're going through it too. I'm going to ring the clinic tomorrow for the advice as I find it weird I went from feeling normal again to feeling bad. It could just be the progesterone really building up now. If you're feeling really rotten maybe you should too just to be on the safe side? Could be OHSS so I'm sure they won't mind you being cautious and asking

lemonyfox · 14/04/2024 21:04

Hi everyone, haven't been on this thread for a while.

I'm on day 3 of stims. I was put on synarel spray for down reg which has been giving me absolute nightmare headaches. I've now started Ovaleap 150 (twice a day for the first two days, then down to once a day) and have my next scan on the 19th.

Anybody else get sore ovaries quite early on with Ovaleap? I have a high AMH (54) so that might help why, but it's not what I was expecting given most tend to say Ovaleap is quite gentle.

Anybody else at a similar point?

Natty2 · 15/04/2024 07:12

@Crushed23 @Lucylaughing Hope your bloating has improved, definitely worth a call to the clinic
On both of my ECs I suffered with bad bloating and pain for just over a week post collection (had a freeze all both times so no transfer)
This time round I was concerned as I was at high risk of OHSS so they brought me back in for scans to check if the fluid had spread
Keep your fluids up to 2-3l a day which will help to clear
They said if I had bad OHSS I would look like the Michelin man, so hopefully that's not the case for both of you!

Crushed23 · 15/04/2024 08:10

Thank you @Natty2 My nurse said to expect a week of bloating. My EC was 3 days ago on Friday, so it makes sense I’m still bloated, I guess. I was just worried yesterday because it was notably worse than the day before, but today is a little bit better.

So I think I just need to be patient 😊

Crushed23 · 15/04/2024 08:11

I’ve tentatively booked an exercise class for Saturday so I’m really hoping I’m back to normal by then! 🤞

Crushed23 · 15/04/2024 08:12

@Natty2 I don’t look like the Michelin man but my boobs are HUGE 😅 I’m quite flat chested normally so it’s quite the novelty haha

Hopingtobe4 · 15/04/2024 10:06

@Crushed23 and @Lucylaughing hope you're both feeling a bit better.

The advice I've seen is plenty of fluids, including "smart" water (b&m sell it( and sport type drinks (the ones without caffeine).

@Lucylaughing are you now 1 week into your 2 week wait? How you feeling?

@lemonyfox I'm on different stims however I am getting sore ovaries, especially left side which at halfway scan was where the majority of the follicles were so I think it's normal. I'm sure your scan will show a lot of activity too

AnnieStar12 · 15/04/2024 10:49

I just had a read through this thread as I'm getting ready to start my next round of IVF. It's always good to read through people's experiences of the highs and lows of this IVF roller-coaster. I recognise some of you from the March thread which I was on for my first (failed) round. I am about to start my next round, doing long protocol this time - starting down reg Nafarelin nasal spray tomorrow. I think I'm well behind most of you as I won't be on stims for a couple of weeks yet so have started a May thread instead, maybe see some of you on there if you're starting another round anytime soon.

But good luck to everyone on this journey!

HopefulllHolly · 15/04/2024 14:24

@Crushed23 @Lucylaughing hope you both feel better soon!

@lemonyfox ill be starting stims in a day or two, just be waiting to start my period. So we can kind of be cycle buddies! I’ve come down with a horrendous cold/flu which feels a bit like covid so I’ve taken the day off to sleep. Really frustrated as I really wanted to be fit and healthy, and I’ve not been ill in over a year so it’s bloody typical I’ve got something now. 🙃

Lucylaughing · 15/04/2024 17:11

Hi all @Hopingtobe4 @HopefulllHolly @Natty2 @Crushed23

I rang the clinic this morning and they rang me back, then asked me to go in. They've done tests etc and sent me home. They said my levels etc are not too bad but are keeping an eye on me as probably OHSS but mild. On the plus side they did an early test and it was a BFP. I don't normally test early but I said I would leave it to them to decide (my official day was meant to be Weds). I have a call from them tomorrow to check I'm OK then going in again for more tests and my "official" HCG test on Weds. They said my HCG is fine for day 12 at the moment but obviously it is very very early and too early to get excited. At least this is a potential reason I feel rubbish. Hoping for a doubled HCG on Weds 🤞 obviously one of the little embryos is doing something

Congratulations on your tentative bfp!! Woo hoo, keeping my fingers crossed you have a sticky bean, happily settling in for a cosy 9 months 😀.

I had my baseline scan today and start stimms with 225 gonal-f tonight. Hopefully this is the start of loads of bfps on our thread! XX

HopefulllHolly · 15/04/2024 18:49

Congratulations on that maybe baby @Lucylaughing! I’ve heard on here that OHSS symptoms can be more pronounced if pregnant so I’m hoping it’s a sticky baby for you.

Our first group BFP that’s lovely news ☺️🥰

Natty2 · 15/04/2024 18:52

@Lucylaughing great news, congratulations! So pleased for you, keeping everything crossed 💛

Hopingtobe4 · 15/04/2024 19:26

Lovely news @Lucylaughing delighted for you, makes the feeling rubbish a bit more bearable !

Crushed23 · 15/04/2024 19:33

Congratulations @Lucylaughing ! 😊

lemonyfox · 15/04/2024 19:46

@AnnieStar12 good luck on the nasal spray! If you get super bad headaches like me, apparently you're not allowed to take ibuprofen for it as it interferes with the medication working. Just FYI 😊

@HopefulllHolly ahhh good luck it all! 🤞🏻

lemonyfox · 15/04/2024 19:48

Whoops that was supposed to say "good luck with it all" 😅 I hope you recover from your cold quickly and it's only a little one, that's the last thing you need right now! @HopefulllHolly
