IVF/ICSI April 2024

Hopefully find others in a similar boat 🙏

Just made my ‘Day One’ call to the clinic this week to set the ball rolling this will be my second cycle, first one failed on 12th Feb 2024.

Bit of background to how we got here, I have had 4 ectopics since Nov 2020 2 resulting in emergency surgery and losing both my tubes. No reason why our first cycle failed, we will be doing IVF/ICSI this time round.

Anyone joining me in the April emotional rollercoaster? X

First monitoring scan today
40 follicles on my right
24 on my left.
biggest one is 10mm so keep going with injections

@Sierra26 i didn’t get anything until today which is day 7. Bloated and cramping today

@HopefulllHolly the injections are scary at first but I built it up to be so much worse in my head.
my personal experience is that I haven’t used ice because the ice is more uncomfortable than the brief sting of the injection. You will be absolutely fine. Just get that first scary one out the way

How long did it take others to start feeling symptoms eg bloating after starting Gonal F stims? I’ve had first two injections (150 dose) but worried I’ve not felt any different yet. Most likely over thinking!!

Hi I'm on 150 gonal f too..had final scan this morning I've aprox 18 eggs between 14-18mm,I don't know how many below that as they are now basically not being thought about by the sounds of things.

I did have bloating quite quick however I know I am sensitive to hormone changes. Try not to worry too much everyone has different symptoms and if you aren't responding how they would have liked they'll up dose at the monitoring scan. Good luck

Crushed23 · 17/04/2024 09:45

@Sierra26 I felt nothing for days.

My symptoms after the EC are far worse than my symptoms during the injections. The nurse mentioned that some people feel symptoms ‘worse on the way down than the way up’ and I’m certainly one of these people!

My EC was last Friday and I’m still SO bloated. The pain has subsided though, I’m no longer taking paracetamol.

HopefulllHolly · 17/04/2024 10:06

@Kp1210 wow that’s a tonne of eggs!! I wish I had a chance of that many so I’d have more chance of something to freeze.
Thanks for the advice - I’m not actually scared about the injections, it’s the bloating and bruising I’m scared for! And obviously that it works for my 6 little follicles.

@Crushed23 hope you feel better soon! Bloating is rough, so uncomfortable and I hate feeling like I don’t recognise my body!

Kp1210 · 17/04/2024 10:57

@HopefulllHolly it’s a lot of follicles but I’ve been warned that lots doesn’t necessarily mean good.
I’ve got PCOS. So there’s a chance that although there are a lot, they don’t mature or are lower quality
keep reminding myself that we only need one good one.

Hoping for an easy journey for you with minimal symptoms and bloating!

Hello,

Tonight will be day 3 of stims and so far my biggest symptom is headaches and a generally meh mood. I have found that drinking a lot of water seems to help with the headache.

The bloating is only mild for now, i dont expect that will kick in properly for a few days yet when the follicles properly start growing. X

Hi all
Another low point on the rollercoaster. HCG was only 71 today and that's nowhere near doubling from the 58 on Monday. I have to go back again on Friday for the same tests. Late onset OHSS is confirmed but looking a lot less likely the pregnancy will progress. I also feel shocking and I was sick in a car park this morning.

Lucylaughing · 17/04/2024 15:29

Oh and I have to wear compression socks and do blood thinning injections for two weeks

HopefulllHolly · 17/04/2024 15:40

@Lucylaughing That’s confusing news, what have the doctors said about it? Could it just be slow to implant?
So sorry you’re having to go through this and feeling so poorly.

Lucylaughing · 17/04/2024 17:01

@HopefulllHolly they didn't say much tbh except that it's not the level they want at this stage and it should be doubling but it's not.
From my googling it means that it's likely it won't progress any further, or could be ectopic (but that's less common).
Testing again on Friday is to check again. Ideally by then it should be around 140+

Kp1210 · 17/04/2024 18:37

Sorry to hear that @Lucylaughing
hope you get some more answers on Friday

Hopingtobe4 · 17/04/2024 19:10

Sorry to hear you're going through all this @Lucylaughing 😔

Natty2 · 17/04/2024 19:16

@Lucylaughing I'm sorry to hear this. Let us know how it goes on Friday.
Take care of yourself with the OHSS and keep up the fluids. Hope they haven't put you on cabergoline! X

Lucylaughing · 17/04/2024 19:19

@HopefulllHolly @Kp1210 @Hopingtobe4
Thanks all. I've at least been signed off work for two weeks so that's a weight off my mind

@Natty2 thank you, will do. I definitely haven't had enough water today but tomorrow will be easier as I'm at home. Ironically it's probably a bad sign if I start to feel better though! No, no cabergoline. Is that the nasty one you were on?

I am sorry to hear this, sending warm thoughts and prayers. You are a strong person to even get this far and you will be OK regardless of the outcome. Hoping physically you feel better soon too Xx

Lucylaughing · 17/04/2024 19:29

@Mrsbutterfly24 thank you. All the best to you too

HopefulllHolly · 17/04/2024 07:43

Welcome @Gnatalie16 😊
Not started my injections yet! First one tonight! But from what I’ve read on here use an ice pack on your tummy before the injection and when you’ve injected leave the needle in there a couple of seconds before you draw it out. Apparently it reduces the pain and bruising!

Im scared for the bruising - I bruise really badly. When I last had bloods done I got bruising the whole way down my veins on my arms. It looked awful!

Thank you and good luck to you too!
I will def invest in some ice packs to use for sure I’m a whimp so bound to need it all 😂
I bruise quite easy too so that shall be fun! Good job I’m not intending on wearing a bikini anytime soon 😅

HopefulllHolly · 17/04/2024 21:14

@Gnatalie16 Literally just did the first injection and it was totally fine! I iced the area for a minute before and didn’t feel it go in at all. Stung a little on the way out but not a lot at all, had worse paper cuts. You’ll be fine 😊

Gnatalie16 · 17/04/2024 22:30

@HopefulllHolly ah that's good to know I will stop my worrying. Hope all goes well xx

Lp96 · 18/04/2024 07:11

Did my trigger injection lastnight, feels very strange this morning not having to do any injections. My partner has an operation today to see if they can surgically get sperm then EC tomorrow. It’s so scary how close we are now 😬
hope everyone is ok!

HopefulllHolly · 18/04/2024 07:21

@Lp96 eeek good luck!! Hope the partners sperm retrieval goes ok too.

@Gnatalie16 keep us posted on how it goes on Saturday!

Ive woken up with a bit of a headache today, not sure if related to the injections though as I’ve been a bit poorly anyway. It did get rid of my awful period pain though which I’ll take! 🙂

HopefulllHolly · 18/04/2024 07:25

Not sure if people are interested in this kind of thing but I follow an embryologist on Instagram (Emmatheembyrologist) who is really knowledgeable - I think she works at Evewell in London. Anyway - she’s doing a webinar on Monday 22nd on IVF and stuff - it’s hosted by The Fertility Suite (also on Instagram). I’ve registered because I’m the type to want as much info as possible on everything 😊 plus it’s free! So thought I’d let you all know in case you wanted to listen in too.

I'm the same, trigger last night. Feels very strange,I slept in as had turned off the alarm and I'm off work.

Hope everything goes ok for your partner today.

I am same sex so donor sperm for us. We already have a child that my partner carried with same donor, this is the last straw so mo pressure lol.

I seen something online about taken beetroot juice between egg collection and transfer for the lining of womb. Mine is currently 11mm,so getting some of that today. And paracetamol of course. Have you anything you are planning ?

Kp1210 · 18/04/2024 12:18

@Hopingtobe4 and @Lp96 what an exciting stage that you’ve taken your trigger. How are you both feeling?
Hope the sperm collection and subsequent egg collections go well and you get the numbers you are hoping for.

@HopefulllHolly im like you, I like all the information so I’ll have a look. Have you been watching DrChild on Instagram live? Ge does a weekly ivf and fertility q and a that’s quite informative. He’s had guest speakers like a dietician etc

HopefulllHolly · 18/04/2024 12:22

@Kp1210 Oh no I haven’t seen him! I’ll give him a follow and watch him, thanks!! Emma the embryologist is really good too, worth a follow! 😊
