FET February 2024

Hi, just thought I'd see if there was anyone else doing a FET cycle in February that is looking for a cycle buddy?

I'm due to start meds at the end of this month, hopefully with transfer mid Feb. This will be my first donor embryo cycle after final attempts with my own eggs failed last year.

@GCS34 Got all the travel sorted, for some reason the flights this time round are super expensive, so I'm about £450 down for flights, hotel and transfers. But yes, fingers crossed I won't need to go back. I'm literally doing an overnight stay and flying back after transfer. My mum is having my daughter for me.

The tww is a nightmare every time! I don't think I had any symptoms at all with my daughter and was convinced it hadn't worked. And my most symptoms were on my only bfn, so think it's all complete chance! Well done for holding out to test though - I'll be starting on Sunday / Monday!!

@kirstysmbc blimey that is expensive! Hopefully it's well and truly worth the money and you'll look back on it as being the best £450 you ever spent 🤗When do you fly? is it tomorrow? Just you be careful with that case and lifting!!

Yeah the symptoms are hard not to drill into, even though it's likely nothing related. I've just had some twinges a little today but really, bar the odd cramp on day 4, I've not had anything. If I'm totally honest, i've lost my confidence and think this just isn't the round for us and we'll be having to start a fresh round from scratch. I'm okay with that just a bit sad at the same time as I remember thinking when we got 5, that we DEFINITELY have our child in there, but hey ho! We'll see but yeah not holding out much hope

Testing Sunday will be 4dpt right?

kirstysmbc · 22/05/2024 07:39

@GCS34 How did it go today? Got everything crossed for you 🤞🤞

Hectic day of travelling yesterday but transfer is today at 11:30. I'm travelling home again this evening, so no heavy suitcases to carry. I also treated myself to a business class upgrade for £100, so hopefully the flight back won't be too bad. Just a shame I can't take advantage of the free alcohol!

@kirstysmbc oh nice! That’s a good little treat. Only the best for the embryos hey 😉😏 is it the same clinic again?

unfortunately it was a BFN for me for the double transfer so back to the drawing board. Just looking at access fertility now and getting a multi cycle set up. Truly gutted. Of 5, nothing was a baby which seems such bad odds. Think theirs definitely an egg quality issue going on. Just feel like it’s been a year and I’ve got nowhere. Anyway who knows what the next batch could be. Hopefully our children 🤞💉

Oh no @GCS34 I'm so sorry to hear this. You and me both on for another collection cycle then!

kirstysmbc · 22/05/2024 14:42

@GCS34 I'm so sorry, that really sucks. I hope you can get everything sorted to try again soon. You have to keep the faith, the next cycle will be your lucky one. Would you consider PGT reading this time?

One grade A hatching embryo is on board now, so fingers crossed I won't need to make another return trip to Coimbra - lovely as it is!

Thanks @kirstysmbc and @girljulian you'd think that after 5 FET's it would get easier, but I Feel like it gets harder and you feel so naieve for thinking that it'll work.

Fingers crossed the next cohort of eggs will yield a better result. I am in a better physical state going into another collection than I was last year, so hopefully that's on my side.

Sounds like a really good embryo you had transferred. Lots of luck to you x

beachbum85 · 22/05/2024 22:37

@GCS34 I'm so, so sorry about your BFN. I was really hopeful for you and I can only imagine how terrible it feels. Sending you huge hugs 💚 take the time you need to process this so you can go into your next collection stronger... Apart from physically better placed, you also know a lot more now than before... I'm keeping everything crossed for your next round when the time comes.
And for yours @girljulian!

Congrats on being PUPO with an amazing embryo @kirstysmbc . Wishing you the best of luck xxx

Thanks so much @Staryskylark and @muddlingthrou so glad to hear things are progressing well for you!
@muddlingthrou I hope those headaches have subsided! I'm waiting impatiently to see the end of the nauseous phase...

muddlingthrou · 23/05/2024 07:07

Thank you @beachbum85 - feeling much better now.

@GCS34 - I'm so sorry this wasn't your cycle. Wishing you all the best for the next one. You are obviously incredibly resilient and strong x

seekingbabyk · 24/05/2024 23:46

Oh @GCS34 I'm so sorry my lovely! I know exactly how you feel after a DET left with nothing it's devastating. Hope you're ok and sending you a big hug!

Fingers crossed @kirstysmbc x

Sorry I haven't been on to read all your messages girls it's just hectic here with house renovations at the moment x

@seekingbabyk Awww thanks darling. It's a shitter isn't it? Especially when it's a DET - you just expect it to work don't you?! How is the house coming along? Do you have a date for restarting treatment? I have an appointment with my consultant on Tuesday and then i'm hoping to start end of June / start of july, soooo hope we're together!!

@kirstysmbc how are you getting on? Have you tested? x

kirstysmbc · 29/05/2024 13:19

@GCS34 Great news that you've got things moving again. I have had a couple of faint positives, but there's no real progression and the lines look like my last chemical / miscarriage so I'm really not very hopeful 😔

@kirstysmbc oh no! When did you first test positive? Have they got stronger at all? What DPT are you? Fingers crossed it's not the case. Thinking of you

kirstysmbc · 02/06/2024 10:14

@GCS34 Did a beta test on Friday and it was 58 at 9dp5dt, just enough to give me a bit of hope, but then tests have got significantly fainter over the past two days so another chemical. Think I'll stop the meds and hope I can go again on my next proper period. Hope you're doing ok

Oh @kirstysmbc im so so sorry 😔 it’s almost worse having a chemical vs a negative. How are you doing? Do you have another beta booked or not?

muddlingthrou · 02/06/2024 13:20

I'm sorry too @kirstysmbc, you are a warrior gearing yourself up for another transfer already xx

@Staryskylark@GCS34@beachbum85 @muddlingthrou Thanks for your kind words. My line today was almost non existent and I’ve stopped all meds, so now just waiting for the inevitable. I need to crack on really, I’ll be 44 this year, and already feeling that might be too old to do it all again…

I hope your appt went ok @GCS34

@kirstysmbc I admire your determination through all of this and the resilience you have built - you're inspiring you really are!
Am I right in thinking you had another 2 x embryo's frozen from this round? Will you have those transferred?

Thinking of you x

kirstysmbc · 06/06/2024 07:46

@GCS34 I have three more embryos with the clinic, 2 grade A and one C, but they we'll transfer one at a time due to donor age. I also have to pay for each transfer, so works out quite expensive! To be honest, I suspect the next transfer will be the last, and if that fails, then it's just me and my daughter. I know how lucky I am even to have her.

What's going on with your next cycle? When will you get going?

IWouldRatherBeOnHoliday · 06/06/2024 10:52

Hi everyone

@kirstysmbc I'm so sorry. I will keep everything crossed for your next transfer. I think deciding when to call it a day in the process must be the part that takes the most courage and strength, but I hope you don't have to reach that point.

@GCS34 really sorry to hear your DET didn't work out either. Have you started again yet?

Hope everyone else is doing okay and those of you who had good news at early scans are all enjoying healthy pregnancies.

I'm on day 7 of stims for our second egg collection. I'm really glad we are only freezing day5 embryos this time and not doing a freeze all the day after egg collection, as the stress of embryo progress updates before transfer last time can't have helped! We've also changed stims meds and I am hoping that will make all the difference. Such a trial and error process isn't it, and a very expensive one at that!

@kirstysmbc I think you have the potential sibling in there, but I totally get what you mean about weighing up the cost Vs stress Vs moving forward. I think doing the A's is definitely worth it. Would they not consider a double?

So I had a really promising consultation on Tuesday. It was a pretty full on hour but it was good, I'm finally being treated for my PCOS too, so on Metformin, plus I've been put on a specific diet, loads of additional supplements, and got a new protocol for the stimulation when we start that in 4 weeks focused on egg quality. They learnt a lot from me from the last cycle, saw some really good things in the lab, but also weird things, so this new protocol is to combat those errors. I guess we had to go through that to learn what we did as no one really knows what you're like until you're in the lab. Catch 22 really.

But yeah really positive and looking to start stims 1st July once these meds i'm on kick in, so unfortunately will miss you @IWouldRatherBeOnHoliday - would have been nice to do that together. Sounds good their new plan of action. Seems logical to make the embryos then freeze, not sure why they did it the other way before but least you have a new plan and a really really positive one too! How are the follicles looking on your last scan?

@seekingbabyk are you planning to start soon? Hopefully we can be stim buddies!!

IWouldRatherBeOnHoliday · 07/06/2024 18:41

@GCS34 I'm so glad your clinic seem to be really good at adjusting things for you! Both NHS and private for me have seemed very reluctant to engage in discussing supplements etc., such a shame- I do understand that there isn't huge swathes of evidence to back up the use of certain supplements but it would be nice to get even a caveated opinion from them!

When you say labs, is that testing on the embryos or bloodwork?

I have been put on metformin for this cycle too, although Ive only taken them since day 1, are you going on them precycle? Are you switching from Bemfola to Meriofert for stims? That's the change I've had and when I've looked online it seems to be a common swap when quality issues might have been in play...not sure why Meriofert isn't used more often first time round.

It was a day 7 scan today so very early still, but quite a few follicles are just below 10mm so we'll see where they are on Monday.

My clinic didn't seem impressed by the NHS clinic's decision to freeze on day 1 as standard, they said embryos are far more fragile at that point, so I do wonder if that might have gone against us last time too.

Shame we're not on the same timelines but I'm glad you have a little time to change things up and fingers crossed it makes all the difference this time.
