FET/IVF/ICSI - October 2033

Lauralozzle · 23/09/2023 13:09

Anyone due to start cycle/have transfer in October jump on board!

Little history:

TTC our first. Trying for 4 years. Officially unexplained but I only have one ovary that responds/works. Fertilisation issues. Positive Sperm Oxidative Stress Test (likely DNA Frag). So it’s really a bit of a mix.

Dec 22/Jan 23 - First ICSI cycle. 8 eggs, 6 mature, 2 fertilised. One poor blast to transfer. Nothing to freeze. BFN.

July 23 - Second ICSI cycle. Using AOA & ZyMot chip. 8 eggs, 8 mature, 4 fertilised. One fresh to transfer and 2 to freeze. BFN.

Oct 23 - First FET scheduled.

Currently waiting for my period to start so that FET cycle can start. Should start beginning of Oct, so FET likely towards end of the month.

@Custard7891 That’s great news. Fingers crossed for you for good results come day 5, hopefully with some for the freezer!

@marshk Apart from the ganirelix needle being a bit blunter, I found it fine. It did sting a little, but nothing too bad.

@ViVRe

Thanks hun, I had my first injection yesterday. I numbed it with ice, so hardly felt the needle at all. Just wondering now if my Dh actually did the injection :)

Custard7891 · 15/10/2023 14:04

Thanks @marshk and @Lauralozzle.

Well done on your first injection @biscuitsndtea 😊

Had the exact same conversation with my husband this morning @biscuitsndtea 😂

Hi everyone, just catching up with the thread after a super busy week. Glad to see everyone is making good progress!

I have my 'pre-period" scan on Tuesday to check that my ovaries are quiet etc and then everything should start to feel a bit more real.

My sister in law announced her pregnancy on social media this week, I'm not normally too phased by pregnancy announcements, but it was a picture of their 3 month scan alongside a very braggy caption that came across as "look how easy it was for us to get pregnant first try and with no complications!" And I think it just tipped me over the edge. I felt super overwhelmed yesterday but feeling a little more "normal" today. She doesn't know about our IVF struggles or our previous miscarriage, but it just felt really insensitive, especially during baby loss awareness week!

Anyway, enough about me!

@Kitt86 How are you getting on? I know the timings of our cycles are very close, I'm assuming you've started norethisterone now!

Kitt86 · 15/10/2023 18:47

@Babyplease23 hey 😊 I'm only on my first week of noristherone (been on this twice before) however this time I appear to be quite itchy and my sleep is really shit. Waking at 1am and can't get back to sleep til like 4am!! Other than that I feel pretty optimistic. Having acupuncture weekly, meditating about IVF specifically (never done this before, but seems to help with anxiety and positivity) start buseralin around 20th Nov, then start scans. Then will start meriofert instead of menopur which I think maybe better for older women from what I've read. ( I'm nearly 38) I feel excited. I have stopped my exercising now (I normally do calisthenics about 4/5 times a week) so just been staying out of the gym (coz I get jealous 🤣) and walking lots with my dog. Personally this feels right for me and I feel fairly relaxed (apart from thinking about IVF 24/7 and feeling a bit impatient...lol) good luck at your scan!! Hope it goes well. How are you getting along overall x

Hopingforno2in2023 · 16/10/2023 08:31

Morning all. Apologies I haven’t been on since the start of the month. Had a bit of a mare with the clinic trying to push us back into December/January but we fought back and I am due to start meds when AF arrives this week!

Will try and read the last few pages now to catch up a bit :)

Lauralozzle · 16/10/2023 08:35

@Hopingforno2in2023 Good luck. I’m glad you managed to push back against the clinic!

@Babyplease23 That sounds like the most insensitive pregnancy announcement ever.

One thing I have taken from this, is if I ever do a social media pregnancy announcement I’ll try and make it as sensitive as possibly as you honestly have no idea who is going through what.

Good luck to everyone with scans today!! Hopefully follicles are ready and/or womb linings stop being a dick!

@marshk I put my Gonal F pen in the main bin but the fyremadel ones in the sharps bin because the needles stay attached!

Thank you @ViVReI've been doing actual verbal yelling at my uterus so we'll see today how well it responds to such aggression 😂 I hope you had a lovely injection free day. Happy egg collection day! Let us know how you get on, goodluck 🤞🤞🤞

@Custard7891 what an amazing day 3 update! I hope you get a similar day 5 update!

@biscuitsndtea it sounds like the injection went well if you were questioning if it happened! 😊 well done on the first one being done.

@Babyplease23 that sounds so painful ☹️ I hate pregnancy announcements. I have found them a painful torture and battle over the last few years that even the thought of doing my own makes me feel hurt. I don't think I'd be able to do one. I hope you're okay. Hope your scan tomorrow goes well!

@Kitt86 how odd that you've been on that medication before but reacting to it differently now! I absolutely hate being itchy. I hope you're managing okay and not too dead on your feet from lack of sleep. Your dedication to acupuncture and exercise is really inspiring!

@Hopingforno2in2023 I'd read about your clinic trials on the other thread. What an absolute nightmare. I'm glad there's been a resolution for you and you get to go ahead soon! Roll on your period starting!

@Lauralozzle I'm glad you've survived the weekend! Did you get to move your mattress back into the bedroom?

Custard7891 · 16/10/2023 09:21

@Babyplease23 that is awful of your sister in law to say that. A couple of friends said theirs were 'first try' several years back when my circle were beginning to have babies. It didn't affect me then, and to be honest it doesn't affect me too much now. I just think, after we have been through what we've been through, we will have a greater appreciation for our future children as we will have more recognition of how precious and special it is.

Good luck getting started again @Hopingforno2in2023 ❤️

An update from me on day 5 - we have 5 at A-C grade and another one they think will be A-C by day 6. There's also a couple of E's and an F they are going to continue to monitor into day 6. Really thrilled with that result after last time. We are going to do PGT-A testing on our 5 potentially 6 and then freeze any 'normal' ones, then do a FET in the future.

IVFKinster · 16/10/2023 09:32

Goodluck for your scan today @Lolly2507 I hope your uterus has responded well to the extra meds!

Lauralozzle · 16/10/2023 09:43

@Custard7891 That is excellent news!!!

@IVFKinster Nope. Mattress is still downstairs 😂 I’ve not finished the painting so it looks like a week sleeping on mattress downstairs for now. No point lugging it around to bring it back down again.

I’m waiting on carpet people to give a date for fitting. Hopefully it’ll all be done by then! 😬

By Christmas I’ll hopefully have a house that doesn’t resemble a building site!

It’s dawned on me today that I’m going to have to buy some KY Jelly for the pessaries for Wednesday. The nurse said there’s less leakage using the back passage and therefore, I might absorb more of the progesterone. That’s going to be a new experience buying that at the pharmacy. I think I’m going to be mortified! A whole new level of embarrassment!

OP posts:
Custard7891 · 16/10/2023 09:49

@Lauralozzle thanks 😊 And yes I found that is the best place to put them as it's 100% less leakage😂

IVFKinster · 16/10/2023 10:07

@Lauralozzle It'll be lovely to get it all done in time for Christmas, to make it all sparkly and pretty 😊 I hope it all goes smoothly for you. I absolutely love getting a new carpet. Especially in the bedroom! Not to be too gross but do you definitely need KY jelly? Did you have any butt pessaries for egg collection? The coating is so waxy and just sort of slides in and they're bullet shaped usually so I feel like KY jelly would actually make it harder to put in and more likely to slip all over the place? Did the nurse recommend it?

Lauralozzle · 16/10/2023 10:14

@IVFKinster I’m going on my experience with the bum bullet for egg collection which I was given lubricant with. Definitely helped it along. I’m a bit worried to do it without cause it’s a bit sore down there from the gut rot last week.

Yes, carpet and freshly decorated house ready for Christmas should be perfect!

Hi everyone,

@Custard7891 what great news to be reading this morning🙌

@Babyplease23 I get what you mean. We have one couple that have told us about their pregnancy and said they only tried for 3 months and they were already worried that its not happening. To be fair we havent told people about our IVF journey so they didnt know but I still fell jealous. Its not a feeling that I like but at the same time I cant control it. And the fact that she is still drinking and vaping quite often makes me feel like it`s so unfair. Hard feelings to navigate.

@IVFKinster yelling and threatening might work 😅 sometimes you need extreme measures 😅

@IVFDublin hope everything goes smooth with your scan today 😊

@ViVRe yey for no more injections. hope the egg collection went well and you are feeling ok 😊

@Lauralozzle still time until Santa comes to visit 😛house renovations are always taking longer than expected but when they are done it`s so great.

No real update from me... only on day 5 of injections. Feeling ok so far, didn`t notice anything. Only that I am really hungry all the time but could be unrelated.

Melisss · 16/10/2023 10:32

hmmm, not sure what happened with my message...will try and post it again. I tried to edit and it looks fine but when it posts it`s all messed up.

Babyplease23 · 16/10/2023 10:39

Thanks for the kind messages everyone, feeling a bit calmer today and trying to remind myself that everyone has their own journey. Even if her post did come across as insensitive, I'm sure it wasn't intended that way so I'm trying to just let it go over my head!

@Melisss I totally get what you mean. One of my old work colleagues has just announced her pregnancy (4 months) however she was posting pictures 1 month ago on holiday drinking cocktails and smoking! I'll try to give her the benefit of the doubt and assume that maybe she didn't find out until quite late?! But it's frustrating nonetheless!

Sorry to hear that your sleep isn't great @Kitt86 hopefully it's just a side effect of the norethisterone and you should be back to normal soon! Glad you're feeling optimistic and relaxed. Sounds like you're listening to your body and what it needs. Acupuncture is supposed to be great for you and I've never considering IVF meditation before so might give that a go myself! I'm feeling good overall thanks. Different to my previous cycles, not as nervous and a bit "nothingy"? If that makes sense. I think it just hasn't hit me yet that we are starting so soon. It should all feel a bit more real after my scan tomorrow!

ViVRe · 16/10/2023 12:44

Had my procedure (egg retrieval) earlier this morning, all went well…don’t feel anything dramatic to be honest, waaaaayyyy easier than a colonoscopy/endoscopy thus far. Sadly, I left the clinic without knowing any numbers…embryologist/Drs was still doing other procedures (I was 1st in line) and they didn’t get a chance to pop by before I left, so a bit disappointing….THANKFULLY, I’m not too anxious of a person, so I will wait for their phone call with any news (good or bad) later today.

MoonlightDreamer · 16/10/2023 13:05

Hi ladies 👋
Currently on day 5 of stims.
This is my first ivf (icsi) cycle
Almost 38 ttc baby number #1
We've been trying off/on for 17 years.
I never thought I'd ever go down this route of ivf but here I am.
I have my first scan tomorrow to see how things are going .
I have pcos and we also have male factor ( poor morphology)
I'm on short protocol so depending on how this scan goes , IF all goes well my collection should be next week

MoonlightDreamer · 16/10/2023 13:10

@biscuitsndtea well done 👏
Glad to hear you've finally started stims
I'm on day 5 already 😬 can't quite believe it

marshk · 16/10/2023 13:41

Not too far behind you @MoonlightDreamer - I'm on day 4.

Goodness I am tired today - I'm not sure whether that's as a result of the stims or just the fact it's Monday!

ViVRe · 16/10/2023 13:54

5 eggs collected, 4 matured and frozen! I could cry, but I prefer laughing…already booked for a consultation in November and possibly will do my next egg retrieval in December! 4 is better than nothing, but when you get results like these (and in my case it is eggs - not even embryos, so this number could easily drop to ZERO) it just feels like I spent £7000 on a laughable attempt of having a child some day! I will keep going because I have faith that the best will happen to me, regardless of outcome, but yes…my first venture into the world of infertility paints a sad reality 🤕

Lauralozzle · 16/10/2023 14:25

@ViVRe 4 eggs is a good start! All you can do is keep adding to it. IVF in general feels like a laughable amount of money on an ‘if’. But we have to hope this is it and it will work, eventually. Another collection in December sounds exhausting do rest up!

@MoonlightDreamer Hello 👋 we’re also TTC no. 1. Day 5 of stims already! You’ll be looking at egg collection next week easily. Good luck tomorrow for your scan, hopefully everything is progressing nicely.

@marshk Maybe it’s stims and the fact that it’s Monday rolled into one! Extra dose of tired!

OP posts:
Melisss · 16/10/2023 14:29

@ViVRe oh no :( But 4 is still better than 0 and you never know for sure what could happen. I really admire your positivity in this situation.

Probably silly question (really new to this whole IVF) but is it advised to do another round so soon? Or would the body respond better after a short break?
