IVF/ICSI/FET - June 23

Hi!

I'm going to be starting my medications ready for a FET in June. Anybody else in the same boat or starting their cycles?

I've done one round of ICSI and had a fresh transfer in March that wasn't successful but we got 5 frozen day 5 blastocysts from it. Happy to answer any questions for anyone starting their journeys :)

@HopefulHead yes, definitely feeling more like myself today and the nurse confirmed I can do my next round in august so feeling a bit more upbeat.

Im sorry to hear you’ve got awful cramps. Have you tried contacting your clinic? Maybe you could book yourself in for a blood test and then at least you will know for definite.

@Lyrabee yay for Disneyland!!

HopefulHead · 13/07/2023 19:42

@KG1244 Glad you’re feeling better and that is great news about going again in august 🥰

My clinic don’t do bloods 😒 they just do a 7 week scan if you get a positive in OTD. Hopefully tomorrow will give me something a little more solid than today 🙈

KG1244 · 13/07/2023 20:07

@HopefulHead urgh that is annoying. I’m sure you will know for definite by the weekend. I’m sorry though, hope Ben & Jerry are around for emotional support. Accidentally bought the banoffee flavour. Not the one. 😬

Lyrabee · 13/07/2023 23:32

Ooh @HopefulHead but I guess it could be late implantation? The cramps don't sound good though, hopefully they stop soon!

Yey! @KG1244 I hope I can do mine in August with you!

@Lyrabee yes I hope so ❤️

HopefulHead · 14/07/2023 07:31

@KG1244 I haven’t splashed out on Ben and jerrys in a while but I did eat 3 of the Aldi cookies and cream ice creams last night if that counts? 😂

@Lyrabee Yeah the cramping has eased a bit but bled a bit more last night and stil negative tests this morning so I’m just hoping I come on properly today now 🤞🏼

Lyrabee · 14/07/2023 09:43

@KG1244 those cookie and cream ice creams are the best! The magnum like ones? I cant tell the difference!

@HopefulHead sending you some virtual comfort and hugs 💛

Hi,
I am new to all of this so I would love some experienced knowledge, all of the words everyone seems to use on here is like foreign language to me..
I am awaiting day 1 of time of month to let them know to get my medication out to me but it seems everyone knows their situation, I don’t really …
they have recommended ICSI to me for success rate but I am pretty sure my husbands sperm wasn’t low or anything like that and I have also now done research on it and says there is no proven long term results for any health problems and something about higher rates of ASD so now I am really worried if we should go for ICSI or just IVF, we have also got the extra couple days blastocyst within our package but I have done research on this and it says there is no proven benefit?? I am just so confused. I am 28 my first round of IVF, I like to say I am not nervous but I am (to myself), any help would be extremely appreciated xx

Lyrabee · 16/07/2023 13:07

Hi @Shan231994 it sounds lile they've not really explained your results to you as they would usually just do IVF as a first point of call. My husbands soerm count is fine but motility was low which is why they told us to do ICSI because they physically inject the sperm to where it needs to be rather than relying on it swimming.
Are you NHS or private? If you're private, which clinic?

Shan231994 · 16/07/2023 13:14

@Lyrabee hi, I have read our letter and it says due to infertility for so long that’s why recommending ICSI, we are private and care fertility x

wtawtaw · 16/07/2023 13:19

@Shan231994 hello! It does seem weird they would just say that. Surely they have tested his sperm first? Or have they only said it due to infertility?

Lyrabee · 16/07/2023 13:46

@Shan231994 aaah okay, how long have you been trying?
I'm Care Fertility too :) which medication are they sending you?

I can only think that because with ICSI they select the healthiest sperm they can from the sample that they think it will be better quality for you rather than leaving it to chance.

Mine was ICSI as well and we got 6 day 5 blasts of good quality (they don't give specific gradings I don't think)

How are you doing @HopefulHead

HopefulHead · 18/07/2023 09:25

Hey @KG1244 Im ok thank you.
Negative confirmed today so at least I can draw a line under it now.
Ive emailed the clinic for some more info about my EC as I never asked before why they only got 7 eggs from 15 follicles… I’m wondering whether it’s worth me doing another EC to try and bank some embryos for future use…. I know we still have 3 in the freezer but I’m panicking a little that if my eggs are declining I don’t want to leave it too long to try again 😬

How are you? Still looking like transfer next cycle?

KG1244 · 18/07/2023 09:30

@HopefulHead urgh I’m sorry. At least you know now. Yes I’m due to have another FET in august as long as my period behaves!
i think it’s such a lottery with EC. We got 18 eggs but 4 embryos so I really do think it’s quality rather than quantity. I had the same worry as you but I think we’ve agreed one more FET and if that doesn’t work, then another EC. Do you have any idea on timings or just want to break for a while? It’s so exhausting!

HopefulHead · 18/07/2023 09:37

@KG1244 Fingers crossed your period behaves for you 🤞🏼
How are you feeling about it?

Im not sure really, I keep going between ‘I wanna try again asap’ and ‘this hurts too much I don’t think I’ll ever do this again’ so just trying to get as much info as possible to make an informed decision when all my emotions have settled down a little.

KG1244 · 18/07/2023 09:53

@HopefulHead feeling a bit up and down. Not majorly positive mainly cause of the grading of the embryo but a bit calmer with a plan in place so if next time doesn’t work, we will do the EC and I will push for ICSI so hopefully we get more embryos.
Definitely give yourself time. It’s super draining and exhausting. I’m only just starting to feel back to myself energy wise - 2 weeks later

wtawtaw · 18/07/2023 10:08

Sorry to hear this @HopefulHead ☹️ it's devastating isn't it. Do you know what grade your embryo was that they put back in? Did your period come before you stopped the progesterone? Sending lots of virtual hugs x

HopefulHead · 18/07/2023 10:55

@KG1244 Yeah I get that, I do think we all think too much in to the gradings though, seeing stories on here of great ones failing and ‘poor’ ones sticking really shows there is just no rhyme or reason to this whole thing is there 🫤
Hopefully this next one will be your lucky one ❤️

@wtawtaw Thank you 😘
It was a 5BB
I did natural so I wasn’t taking any progesterone so my period just came as normal.

wtawtaw · 18/07/2023 11:02

@HopefulHead ohhh ok! Was it a fresh transfer? I only thought you could do a natural cycle with a FET. There's so much to learn!! Did the clinic advise you to a natural one or was that your choice?

HopefulHead · 18/07/2023 11:10

@wtawtaw Yeah it was a fet as my ivf cycle ended in a freeze all.
I requested to do natural because of how poorly I was from the hormones after the ivf round 😬

KG1244 · 18/07/2023 11:11

@HopefulHead thank you ❤️I hope so. The whole thing is such a lottery shit show
