IVF/ICSI/FET - June 23

Hi!

I'm going to be starting my medications ready for a FET in June. Anybody else in the same boat or starting their cycles?

I've done one round of ICSI and had a fresh transfer in March that wasn't successful but we got 5 frozen day 5 blastocysts from it. Happy to answer any questions for anyone starting their journeys :)

@KG1244 I am so sorry to hear your news. Don’t feel discouraged by low quality embryos. I’ve known people on other forums have high quality not work and low quality ones that do. Sending big hugs to you x

I am like you, I need to focus on next steps and get a plan in place. Hopefully your clinic will be able to help you today.

Our clinic only implants multiple embryos if the mother is 40+, I’m not sure if other clinics have a similar policy.

HopefulHead · 04/07/2023 10:33

@KG1244 Yeah that’s understandable, I made a plan with DH as to when we will do the next transfer if this one doesn’t work, he said he didn’t want to think like that and stay positive but I said I’d need something to aim for to keep me from sinking if this one doesn’t work.
Also totally true that people think ivf is a sure way to get pregnant, the amount of people who expressed their excitement for me over doing ivf was ridiculous, and also then makes it harder to try and explain to people
how it feels when it doesn’t 😞
I think at this stage you just have to do what gets you through, and if that means making new plans asap then I think that’s what you need to do.
I think my clinic is the same in that they will only do double transfer for 42+ or if there has been 3+ failed single transfers but it certainly can’t hurt to ask the question xx

Lyrabee · 04/07/2023 10:51

@KG1244 I think it definitely helps me to know what my next steps are. It's good your clinic is doing a blood test as i didn't get that for either of mine. In terms of multiple transfers, my clinic is over 40s or multiple failed attempts so I'm going to ask if it's possible for my next round to do two. When we signed all our paperwork initially there was a lot of info on it because there's increased risks when doing so but I'm hoping they'll consider it at least. Always ask the question!

Thank you. It’s just such a s* show. I really hope there is still some good news incoming in this group ❤️

HopefulHead · 04/07/2023 11:17

These groups do really help, and it’s inspirational seeing how strong you ladies are ❤️ I just wish the outcomes had been better this time 😞

KG1244 · 04/07/2023 13:31

@HopefulHead oh completely. Talking to others going through it helps so much. ❤️

KG1244 · 04/07/2023 17:15

I’ve booked in a follow up consultation for Monday so feeling a little better. Thank you all for your support xxx

Lyrabee · 04/07/2023 17:36

@KG1244 I'm sure they will be able to get your next steps in place so you'll at least know where you stand 🩷

I heard back from the clinic today who confirmed we can't do an NHS round in the middle of the payment plan we have so I'm just waiting on my appointment on 21st then I'll know what's happening next!

HopefulHead · 04/07/2023 18:47

You’re both doing so amazingly ❤️ I really hope I can summon up some of the strength you 2 both have.
Glad you’ve both got things booked in to help you look forwards

pixiemum2 · 04/07/2023 21:08

Totally agree, it's so helpful to have these groups to lean on each other ❤️

@KG1244 glad you're feeling a little bit better. Knowing the next steps really must help, rather than feeling like you've hit a road block. Hope the consultation goes well and they'll be able to give you some guidance and get things moving soon again.

@Lyrabee when they say they can't do an NHS round, are you referring to new stims, EC etc or the embryo transfer?

@HopefulHead not long to go until Friday!! How are you feeling?

Sending love and light to you all.

Lyrabee · 04/07/2023 23:22

@pixiemum2 so we have paid for like 3 rounds and if they don't work we get a refund. We thought we had used 2 rounds so wanted to use the free NHS transfer through the clinic but they can't pause the payment option for that.

It turns out though they don't count the frozen transfer as a 'round' and we have unlimited FET. technically we've only done one round as we've only done the stims once.

Honestly nobody explained this to us properly!

pixiemum2 · 05/07/2023 08:26

@Lyrabee oh ok I get it now, yeah - sounds like it needed more explaining, as if all this stuff isn't comped enough already 😂 Anyway it sounds like that's actually good - i.e. unlimited FETs and you have 2 more rounds of stims included in what you've paid for. Hopefully you won't need them anyway and your next FET will be successful! 🤞

HopefulHead · 05/07/2023 09:04

@pixiemum2 Im starting to feel really excited now 🥰 it will be my first time being PUPO, so just gonna try and enjoy it for as long as it lasts ❤️

How are you all feeling today?

KG1244 · 05/07/2023 10:10

@HopefulHead really good attitude ❤️ Enjoy it. You’ve worked so hard to get to this point and I’m really hoping for you!!!!!

Im feeling a little lighter today but then the evil devil in my voice says it’s never going to happen which doesn’t help. I think I’m going to do another fresh cycle rather than use a frostie this time and hopefully get some more embryos but will see what they say on Monday I guess.

HopefulHead · 05/07/2023 11:17

@KG1244 Thank you 🥰

Glad you’re feeling a little better ❤️ I can definitely see the benefit in getting more embryos in the freezer as early as you can, as we are constantly told how egg quality reduces with age 🙃 but it’s also a hard call to make when you also want to get going with implantation again isn’t it, hopefully they will help you make an informed decision on Monday 🙏🏼
How many do you currently have in the freezer?

KG1244 · 05/07/2023 14:00

I’ve got three in the freezer - 2 4BC & 1 3BC.

HopefulHead · 05/07/2023 14:14

@KG1244 Still a good amount then, but I can see the desire to do another EC.
Its a hard choice isn’t it 🙁

KG1244 · 05/07/2023 14:39

@HopefulHead so hard! I’ve read about plenty of people succeeding with these grades. I think at the moment I’m just feeling knocked because our 4BB didn’t make it ☹️ so I’m feeling a lot less confident. And whilst I’m 34, maybe I should do another round of EC? Argh I don’t know!!

HopefulHead · 05/07/2023 15:00

@KG1244 I read something that made me feel more relaxed about the transfer and ours all being BB’s, and it said the only reasons a FET fails is either if the lining isn’t thick enough or if there is any chromosomal issues with the embryo. Aparently the grading is how far developed it is but has no bearing on ‘quality’ as such, it could just be they’re a bit slower getting where they need to be, but highest or lowest quality on day 5 doesn’t determine if they can become a viable pregnancy, it’s predetermined in the make up of the egg & sperm.

And there is definitely a lot of success stories with those grades, but I’m 34 too and I also feel a bit panicky knowing that it would be a few of years before we could afford to do another round if these 4 don’t work, but being then closer to 40 I know makes the stakes a lot higher.

I really hope they can give you some good, well informed advise on Monday 🤞🏼

KG1244 · 05/07/2023 15:59

@HopefulHead thank you, that’s so interesting. This was our first and only frozen round on the NHS (get one fresh and one frozen and the fresh was cancelled due to the lovely polyp). I kind of wish had done the PGT testing but that was never offered to us although the embryologist I spoke to said at my age, I should expect half of them to be ok. So we could do one more fresh round and hope we get a few more to freeze and then hopefully one to transfer fresh. I can’t cope with all these tricky decisions!

HopefulHead · 05/07/2023 17:33

@KG1244 Ah ok, that’s nice to hear that about 50% at our age should be ok 👍🏻
Yeah that’s really tough isn’t it, guessing if that was your only free nhs round too then it’s also factoring in the cost of doing a whole new round 😬 It’s just all the unpredictability isn’t it, if someone could just say ‘do this, it will cost you ££ much and take xx amount of time but it will work’ then things would be a lot easier!!

In other news…. Finally had Friday authorised off work, told the team that I would be off on Friday (haven’t told them I’m transferring, just said another IVF appointment) and one of my work ‘friends’ said to me “It would be a lot easier to just go out and have a one night stand instead of all of this wouldn’t it haha” I just said “I’m sure it would but I’m not that much of a cunt” then had to sit there all day awkward AF and wondering if I was gonna get reported for dropping the C bomb in the office 🫣😬
What is it about people who haven’t done ivf that makes them completely devoid of common sense when it comes to talking to someone who is doing it 🙄

pixiemum2 · 05/07/2023 18:21

I can't quite believe it @HopefulHead what a thoughtless thing for that person to say. It's like "oh you mean all I have to do is go out and have sex?! Why didn't I think of that?!" 😒
Anyway two more sleeps for you! Well done for getting Friday off, I think I would have done the same if it hadn't been the weekend. Netflix and chill (not that kind 😜) after the procedure.

@KG1244 really hope you'll get some helpful guidance on Monday. I see your point about wanting to do a new few cycle, although 4BB is really not bad at all! Not easy to decide and so many factors at play - physical, emotional, financial.

I had another blood test today, progesterone still quite high but a bit lower this time at 350. Trying really hard but am losing a bit of positivity.

HopefulHead · 05/07/2023 18:35

@pixiemum2 I know, and just felt like like an awful thing to say as my DH is the one with the fertility issues, like I’d rather have a baby with a total stranger 🙃

Thats good that’s it’s come down then, did they say it was still within the normal range? When is your OTD again?
Try not to lose faith, you’re still in it ❤️

KG1244 · 05/07/2023 20:01

@HopefulHead Honestly what is wrong with people?! If a one night stand was all it took, I think these groups would be a lot more quiet 😂

@pixiemum2 so we used the 4BB and have two 4BCs and one 3BC. It’s so difficult to know what to do. I found a post on Insta today of loads of people sharing their success with these grades which was quite comforting but at the same time, maybe some extra Frosties would make me feel a bit more confident. I do appreciate that I’m in a good position but everything still feels a bit hopeless right now. I’m sure after Monday when I have a plan, it will feel a bit better.

I find the whole progesterone monitoring very confusing as it seems that different clinics have different levels so I’m not even sure what is the right range. Try not to panic, it’s the good the clinic are monitoring it and I’m sure they are doing everything they can ❤️

HopefulHead · 05/07/2023 20:48

@KG1244 If that’s all it took me and my DH would have had a baby 9 months after the night we met 😂 but here we are 3 years later still with no baby 🤷🏼‍♀️😂
