Waiting for PGT-A results

Hi
I am completely new here. I’ve just gone through my first round of IVF and I have to say, my partner and I were blindsided with how much it actually affects and impacts your life! Egg collection was 9 days ago and I’m pretty much feeling back to normal now.
I’m 42, 22 mature eggs were collected, 11 survived to day 3 and 6 survived to day 5/6 blastocyst stage. These have been frozen and samples have been sent for PGT-A testing. So now we have a TWW and not for a pregnancy test, to tell us if they are chromosomal normal. Just wondering if anyone else is in the same situation?
fertility wise, the issue is a thin lining due to a copper coil. Very annoying 😔

Hello 👋🏼

I'm also waiting for pgta results, we too got 6 embryos sent off for testing, its a week today and I've been told it will take around two weeks to get the results. I hate the waiting, it's by far the worst part of this process, it's driving me mad and I keep thinking the worst. Was there a reason for you choosing to genetically test? X

Hey thanks for replying! Yes, it's awful and I've been Googling all sorts of statistics to try and figure out what the likely outcome will be!
Tested just cause of age of eggs. We were suppose to be doing 3 cycles back to back but because of how well I responded to treatment (they collected 29 eggs) I need to skip a month so we decided to send this round off for testing in the hope that we will get some successful results!
How about you? Why are you testing?

OP posts:
browneyedgirl626 · 16/03/2023 10:36

That's great you responded so well! In the cycle I just did they collected 38 eggs 🥴 but only 8 of them fertilised because so many were immature and 6 made it to day 5/6. We're testing because I've had a missed miscarriage and 2 chemical pregnancies over the last 2 years and I want to increase our chances of it working and not having to go through more losses. We've paid for a 3 cycle package so if we get no euploids it will be another egg collection next cycle. I've googled statistics too, I'm 37 but I don't feel it means much really. Maybe I'm keeping the bar low to cope with it all!

How much longer do you have to wait for results? And do you have any other issues apart from thin lining? I did the nk cells test and it turns out I'll need steroids and intralipids if/when I get to transfer x

Usernamenono · 16/03/2023 10:58

I only had two sent and one was normal so fingers crossed for you both

Thinkinhappythoughts · 16/03/2023 11:06

@browneyedgirl626
38 is loads! Did you find any of it painful?
I popped out of my jeans half way through the meds and looked 5 month's pregnant! It was quite uncomfortable. I was in so much pain after the egg collection as well, i'm only just back in my jeans!

They said we should expect results week beginning 27th march. It's Just the lining which I'm really hoping is an easy fix!
I'm not familiar with NC, what is that?

Thank you! Trying to think that if they made it to day 5/6 than they stand a good chance of being genetically ok!
That's still 50% success for you-
Are you going to try for a transfer or are you freezing it and going for another round to collect some more?

@Usernamenono ahh that's brilliant! That makes me feel more hopeful x

browneyedgirl626 · 16/03/2023 11:18

@Thinkinhappythoughts it's really weird but I felt completely fine during the stims and after egg collection, I was a bit bloated but nothing more than a pms bloat. I was given burserelin as my trigger which is given for ohss risk, but also bc I did a freeze all cycle my body got back to normal fairly quickly. The hardest thing for me was the week after egg collection, I was quite emotional and couldn't stop eating 😂. I'm very surprised that the whole thing felt ok, I only did 11 days of injections and it was over in under 2 weeks. I think when it feels like it all has a point it makes it easier to cope. I've struggled more with the endless nhs appointments and being on hold and relentlessly having to advocate for myself. That all made me feel very depressed. We went private in the end and maybe that's partly why I found it an ok process, because there's a lot more transparency and I just felt more cared for x

browneyedgirl626 · 16/03/2023 12:15

I just got our PGTA results - 2 normal embryos, 3 abnormal and 1 no result. I'm pretty pleased with this! Hopefully we can move to a FET....

Thinkinhappythoughts · 16/03/2023 12:30

Oh wow that's brilliant news! So you got your results within a week?
Wonder what they do with the one that had no result. Is that classed as ok??

OP posts:
browneyedgirl626 · 16/03/2023 12:35

@Thinkinhappythoughts thank you! Yeah it's better than I expected. So the 1 no result can be thawed, tested again and refrozen apparently at no extra cost. There is a higher chance of it being damaged in the process though. I've got a consultation next week so I'll probably ask about it then. I really hope my consultant doesn't want me to do the endometrial receptivity test (ERA) because you need a whole cycle to do that and it's more £££ but I'm hoping that because I had a missed miscarriage that stopped growing at 6+2 but my body didn't let go of until 12 weeks that shows that maybe my receptivity/lining is good? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Which clinic are you with out of interest? I hope you get yours sooner than 27th! I feel relieved now x

Everyone reacts so differently to the stims!
I did 10 days and was fine emotionally just popped out a large stomach! Well I think I was fine emotionally, others around me might say something different!
I've had to skip this cycle to allow the ovaries to go back to normal size and fluid to go down but I'm really hoping that most of my six little miracles come back from PGT-A all ok and we can go straight for a transfer!
we are private too and haven't had any experience with IVF and the NHS.

Forgot to say, we are with CRGH.
Where are you?

OP posts:

@Thinkinhappythoughts I was looking at CRGH but we went with Lister in the end. They've been good so far. I'm trying not to think about how much it all costs 😵‍💫 I think if we have a baby out of this I won't care!

Yes, the wait hasn't dragged as much as I thought and no more injections for a while now! Which is actually a relief.
I'm starting back on northesterone in a week ready for either round 2 or a transfer- depending on how many come back from the PGT-A. The consultant said I need to be on it for either option.
They haven't said so I don't think so. Before we started I had to have a ISI 3D Scan to check if there was any damage to the lining because of the coil and that was fine, no issues so they are just treating the think lining. I think at it's thickest it was 4.8, think it needs to be double that for a successful implant!
You've got to go through some tests before a transfer?? Do you think you will try for a transfer or another round first and get a few in the bank to start with?

OP posts:
browneyedgirl626 · 23/03/2023 16:23

@Thinkinhappythoughts hiya, how are you getting on in your pgta wait?

I spoke to my consultant this morning and because I'm only day 15 of my cycle she said we could try to do the FET this cycle! I went to the clinic and got scanned, lining is 6/7mm and I haven't ovulated yet so I have another scan booked for Saturday morning to see if I'm ready for the trigger injection, then transfer is 7 days after that! It's all happened very quickly and I wasn't expecting to transfer this cycle but I'm glad they suggested it because we are moving house mid May and it would be less stressful doing it this cycle. I'm picking up my steroids now (25mg which seems a lot, here I come moon face 🥴) plus Heparin from the day of the transfer.

Going to cut down on the coffee and weight lifting from today 😂

browneyedgirl626 · 23/03/2023 16:24

@Thinkinhappythoughts forgot to say that we did an Access fertility package which doesn't let you embryo bank, you have to use up all of your embryos from each collection to then go onto the next cycle x

Thinkinhappythoughts · 23/03/2023 17:39

Ah that's brilliant news!

So this is your first transfer? No idea what the drugs are that you have to take in prep.

I can't remember if you told me why you are going through IVF?

Ahh yes, we looked as Access but decided to just pay direct with the clinic in the end.

I'm still waiting. I have a consultant app booked for Monday 3rd but I'm tempted to call tomorrow to see if the results are in as it would have been 12 days then.

OP posts:
browneyedgirl626 · 23/03/2023 18:14

Yes first transfer! I'm only taking cyclogest and prednisolone, as it's natural there aren't any other medications involved which is quite nice. I should have really had about 3 monitoring scans by now but I skipped ahead as I'm already halfway through my cycle. Hopefully they will trigger me on Saturday and then my transfer will be the following Saturday.

We're doing ivf because we've been trying for over two years and have had a missed miscarriage and a couple of chemical pregnancies in that time, and nothing seems to stick. I am hoping that with a genetically normal embryo and some immune treatment I will be able to stay pregnant. We are both healthy and no issues have been found so they have classed it as unexplained sub fertility. I feel like I shouldn't even be having to do ivf because all of my results have been good, but here we are!

What's your situation? Yes I'd give your clinic a call, you never know, they might come in a bit early 🤞🏻

Thinkinhappythoughts · 23/03/2023 18:45

Oh what a pain in the backside, no wonder you had great results with egg retrieval. Yes- I think as you've pretty much covered all potential issues with the ICSI and the PGT-A and they are transferring straight to womb. Fingers crossed it gives you best chances of success. Are you planning on having some time off of work after the transfer to rest?

Mine is because I had a copper coil for 14 years and as a result has thinned my lining. Wasn't aware until I had it removed and periods became extremely light. Also got the added negative aspect that I'm 42 so older eggs but remaining positive that it will be ok!
Yes, I will call tomorrow and see if there is any news as you got yours back so quickly! Apparently mine have gone to league for testing!

OP posts:
browneyedgirl626 · 24/03/2023 10:03

@Thinkinhappythoughts I didn't know that the copper coil could do that 😐 it does make me wonder if they tell women these things or even if they know the long term effects of certain contraceptives... very annoying for you though. I've heard vitamin e is good for the lining as is seeds and grains. People talk about acupuncture for the lining/blood flow but I didn't really notice any difference with anything when I did acupuncture. Is your AMH and afc ok? I hate the stats about age and fertility, sometimes I think it's just better to take it all with a pinch of salt and just go in with an open mind

browneyedgirl626 · 24/03/2023 10:05

@Thinkinhappythoughts I plan to take a day off after transfer, I'm hoping it's on a Saturday because I'll get two days off that way. I work from home and I get breaks in between my work so I'm just going to not put too much pressure on myself and if I need to cancel things at the last minute I will. I don't like the thought of just twiddling my thumbs for the two week wait, I like that my work takes me out of my head. I will have to take time off for moving however! Already decided that if I do get pregnant it's the perfect get out of jail card for not having to pack up the flat 😂

Thinkinhappythoughts · 24/03/2023 10:22

Yes, I've read lots of people have had a couple of days off after transfer and done a eat everything/binge on Netflix few days but the 2ww must feel like a lifetime if you do that everyday! Waiting for these results is now driving me insane. I was ok for the first 10 days now all the 'what ifs' are setting in!
I work from home as well so that's a boys especially with all the scans and treatment and during the meds having to go into London everyday!
Yes- the coil, I was very annoyed and frustrated and cried lots but I've got over it for now. I think it's because IVF is an option. Just really hope it works!
I tried the vitamin e thing last year but it didn't do anything and I was getting more annoyed!
Yes- levels are fine. They said my reserves are very good. Equivalent of 35 year old (I'm 42) so there's no issues with anything like that.
What about yours?

You are so lucky you got your results back so quickly. I called this morning and mine are not back.
