FET/IVF - January 2023

Hey

I would love to get a group together of some of us who are undergoing IVF or FETs in Jan. I found it really helpful to have the support of those going through similar last time (Nov 2020).

My story: I am due to start my first FET in January of my one and only frozen embryo. The embryo is from a cycle in Nov 2020 when I was almost 36. I have low AMH and AFC and it was my first and only NHS round. I got 4 eggs all which miraculously fertilised, 1 made it to day 5 and was put back in with a fresh transfer. Sadly it did not stick. 1 egg was left until day 6 and it finally made it to blastocyst. It has been frozen. Rather than having a FET back then they advised me to do a banking package of 3 cycles due to my low AMH/AFC so in Jan 2021 we started our first private IVF cycle with the same clinic (Kings). Once again I was on max stims (gonal f and menopur) and it looked like we would get 4 eggs again but when I woke from EC they told me they only got 2. I had a bit of a breakdown. I was so upset going through all that including over £2k worth of drugs injected to only get two eggs. It felt even worse as I had let myself hope it would go well. Out of the 2 eggs only 1 fertilised normally. On day 3 the embryologist told me it was average quality and she wasn't sure it would be good enough to freeze on day 5 if it even made it that far. I couldn't handle the thought of going through all that mental anguish to not have anything to freeze so I made a last minute decision to go in for a day 3 fresh transfer. I had zero expectations but somehow that average embryo stuck. I was so stressed all pregnancy and worried about everything but amazingly I gave birth to my first baby in Sep 2021. He is now 14 months and I am turning 38 in 2 weeks.

Now it is time to get back on the IVF/FET train. I have been for my initial scan and blood tests. The scan was fine. Still not many follicles but not significantly worse. Waiting for a consult with the Dr next week for an update on my AMH (can't wait.... ) where she'll also decide on our protocol. I am leaning towards a medicated FET just so we can plan it a bit better. If that doesn't work then it is back to a 3 cycle package of IVF.

I hope I haven't bored anyone reading this to tears. Would be great if anyone else out there would like to be a cycle buddy? :-)

Thanks. My official testing day is this Tuesday. I'll do it again over the weekend and on Tuesday but I'm pretty confident.
@Jane1284 I never bothered with the 7 week scans. My first pregnancy was during the first lockdown and so they did not do them and my two pregnancies since (inc this one, if true), I've just though, Nah, I'd rather get my scans on the NHS and spend the spare money on something else.
@laurapop I've never thought of it like that. Makes me feel a bit less naughty :) According to a pp if you had the trigger shot (which I did not) then you can get false positives at 8 days, so in that case you should leave it a little longer. (Early negative are alright, but I wouldn't want it the other way around.) Good luck x

LF82 · 18/01/2023 13:38

@IVFbeenverylucky lovely news!

good luck to anyone else about to test 🤞

laurapop · 18/01/2023 13:46

@IVFbeenverylucky that's useful to know!! I'm having a FET this time (and last time it was successful) so no trigger either.

You're giving me hope that this time can be successful too even though it worked first time last time!!

Also read your reply about no week 7 scan.. I was scan OBSESSED last time and can see me being the same 😂. Well done for being restrained

IVFbeenverylucky · 18/01/2023 13:52

@laurapop
Ah, well congratulations for last time. Assuming this one is really positive, then I've had three out of three successful FETs :). Wishing the same for you (although you may not want three lol).

laurapop · 18/01/2023 14:22

@IVFbeenverylucky thank you! Fingers crossed for you this time ☺️.

And no at this point 2 is enough for me 😂. What is the age gap for yours?

IVFbeenverylucky · 18/01/2023 14:34

@laurapop 14 months and 23 hours between DDs 1 and 2. Assuming (don't want to count my chick too early) this one works then 19 months bt 2 & 3. But, hey, I'm 41 in a month so what can I say.

laurapop · 18/01/2023 14:59

@IVFbeenverylucky oh wow, there's definitely pros to having them close together! Well done you, I'm only just feeling like I can cope having another one!

My little girl was 2 in December and I can't believe how fast it's gone!!

Hopefulfirstround · 18/01/2023 15:07

I am 2dp5dt of a fresh 5BC embryo , unfortunately, no other embryos survived . I fainted in work yesterday and I’m absolutely exhausted , has anyone had similar symptoms ? I’m trying to wait until 10dp5dt

IVFbeenverylucky · 18/01/2023 15:14

@Hopefulfirstround No similar experiences but it sounds "good" in a way. Your embryo was very good so hopefully....x

countrypunk · 18/01/2023 15:18

@Hopefulfirstround That's the grade of my frozen embryo! I've read plenty of success stories with that grade so stay positive.

Are you able to take a few days off work? Your body goes through a lot with a fresh transfer. I didn't faint but I was very very tired after all those hormones and the stress. And it takes a while to recover from egg collection - I remember the nurse saying my ovaries were still very swollen at my fresh transfer.

Take care of yourself. x

Hopefulfirstround · 18/01/2023 15:22

Thank you!! , I have been taking it a little bit easier , I’ll let you know how my 5BC goes , feeling really hopeful . I’ve seen a lot of positive stories as well . I am dreading having to go through another egg retrieval, I don’t think I’m fully recovered yet 😅 thank you all for being so lovely , I hope you all are doing ok

LF82 · 18/01/2023 16:34

@Hopefulfirstround good luck! And do as much as you can to rest and take care of yourself x

Frosty91 · 18/01/2023 18:52

Hi new on here. Anyone going through a medicated FET this month?
Medicated FET. Starting my pessaries tomorrow. Then embryo transfer on Tuesday hopefully. First round of IVF. 18 eggs collected 5 frozen embryos. Any first time success stories and tips build up to the transfer. Sending all love x

Claireabella05 · 18/01/2023 19:06

Good luck @Hopefulfirstround , mine are the same grading as yours, I have a 4bc and and 5bc left in the freezer, so keeping everything crossed for you!

@Frosty91 I'm not far behind you, I'm also having a medicated FET cycle and on day 6 today, i have my day 8 scan Friday, and hopefully I will then have more of an idea of a transfer date 🤞 they say pomegranate juice brazil & wall nuts help, I'm sure I'll find out of that has helped on my scan on Friday haha

Congratulations everyone on your sucesses!! Really hoping you can all send some this way, I'm on round 3 and still no sign of a positive 😢

Frosty91 · 18/01/2023 19:14

Thanks claireabella05. I had my day 13 scan today uterus lining was good and the triple line was visible. Good luck with your scans. Are you taking estradiol three times a day. They increased mine to four times a day on day 11 scan. I did buy some pom juice it was too sweet. Alot of stories I have read they are always like FET 3rd time. I'm hoping to hear some first rime success stories 🤲.

acaciabluebell · 18/01/2023 19:28

So many positive results on this thread, so amazing! 😃

Claireabella05 · 18/01/2023 19:29

@Frosty91 thank you, yes I'm on it 3x a day, I was wondering the same if they will increase mine...good luck with your transfer!!
It does happen so keep thinking postive, I have a few up and down days, but trying not to think about it too much, they say FET has the same if not better chances than fresh.

IVFbeenverylucky · 18/01/2023 19:34

@Frosty91 Hiya and welcome. My first FET worked. And my second. And my third (I think. WTS.)

IVFbeenverylucky · 18/01/2023 19:34

@Claireabella05 I think the evidence now is that frozen is better than fresh - allows the woman's body to recover.

PimlicoMum4 · 18/01/2023 19:59

Just catching up and lovely to see more good news.

I’m still testing positive, but am so much more anxious than I was when pregnant 3 years ago (before going down the infertility rabbit hole). Even though it was a natural conception, my fertility dr said I can use the cyclogest pessaries leftover from ivf for peace of mind. Am also on steroids and levothyroxine for mild hashimotos (sub clinical but fertility clinic recommended) so feeling very medicated.

Sending my husband for a sperm test tomorrow and will be fascinated to know results, given it was full azoospermia 11 months ago…!

Lots of luck to everyone x

Frosty91 · 18/01/2023 20:09

Day 8 scan my uterus lining was 6.2. Then had another scan day 11 which was 6.8 and triple line so they increased it too four times a day on day 13 uterus lining was 7.1 with triple line so they booked ne in for the transfer. Good luck 3rd time Lucky hopefully it will work for you. Will keep you in my prayers.

Frosty91 · 18/01/2023 20:12

Wow amazing. Thats good news hopefully. I was told I had unexplained fertility I am 31 years old. All my siblings have babies. I have 8 nieces and 9 nephews so it's not something which is genetic. So I'm hoping this will work. Time is going so slow up until the transfer. I have taken time of work just keeping myself busy. I feel like after transfer it doesn't stop.. the worrying starts with the BFP. And then the scan.

LittleDoveLove · 18/01/2023 20:31

Hello everyone, just an update from a couple of weeks ago that I look to be having a miscarriage so I will likely be renewing out ivf journey next cycle. This is my third and I am very anxious about even ivf working. Wishing you all luck for your Jan cycles x

LF82 · 18/01/2023 20:35

@LittleDoveLove I am so sorry to hear that. It’s so hard. Please take time to rest & look after yourself x

Frosty91 · 18/01/2023 21:22

@littledovelove I'm so sorry to hear that. Don't give up. At the right time it will happen. Stay strong. Was it a frozen one or from fresh cycle x
