December IVF

Hi 👋 I can't see a thread for December IVF so thought I'd start one for those squeezing in treatment before the Christmas cut off.

Backstory from me: one toddler DD from previous IVF ICSI in 2020. Trying for baby 2, have lost our 3 frozen embryos from our first round over the last few months (2 failed FETs and one didn't survive thaw) so heading into a new round. Aiming for a fresh transfer if possible after a freeze all cycle last time due to OHSS risk so I'm starting on low dose bemfola 112.5. AF due next week so just waiting for my meds to arrive the back to being a pin cushion for the next few weeks!

Hi @Brit22 don’t loose hope yet there’s definitely still time for your positive to appear! 🤞🏻🤞🏻 keeping everything crossed for you.

congrats @22Mama on the 10 eggs that’s great news! 🤞🏻 it’s smooth sailing for you form now

I had egg collection yesterday, we got 5 but the call today confirmed only 3 were fertilised I feel so disheartened I really thought we would have more eggs and now I feel like I’m clinging on to this working out for us but it just doesn’t seem like luck is on our side 😩. The embryologist said that if it’s not looking good they will call tomorrow for an early transfer otherwise transfer will be on Tuesday. I’m so nervous I don’t want a call tomorrow I want at least one to get to day 5 😩.
I have to say I really struggled yesterday after egg collection, I found it quite traumatic and triggering as it took me back to my c section with my still born son 🙁 and I think the progesterone I’m now taking is making me really emotional and I was in quite a lot of pain all day yesterday but feeling a bit better now just hoping for a quiet weekend and a transfer on Tuesday I just keep thinking it just takes 1 🤞🏻.

sending lots of love and luck to you all 💗

Hello everyone!
Sorry to jump in so late, but just looking for a bit of a handhold.
My (30f) irst ICSI cycle was cancelled in Sept due to poor response. High AMH (143!) Due to PCOS., so taking metformin to minimise OHSS risk. Endometriomas on one ovary, so not ideal.
Second round of stims didn't seem to be going so well, but today I had my egg collection and they retrieved 29 eggs which I am obviously elated about (I sobbed when they told me, which may/may not be sedation related)
I'm having an FET if any eggs fertilise, however I'm in quite a lot of pain tonight - feels like really bad gas pain and (apologies, TMI) whenever I fart it feels like I'm being stabbed in the bum, coupled with mid level period pain. I'm at obvious risk of OHSS. Is this to be expected? My clinic weren't very clear about post op pain and i felt like a baby complaining.

@Brit22 hang in there, there is still time - fingers very much crossed for you.

@22Mama congrats on the 10, that’s fantastic, rooting for you to get them fertilised and one in for transfer!

@ZAMichelin1991 So sorry to hear about your still birthday, that must have been truly heartbreaking - it does however show what a strong person you are, and you do have some eggs and fingers crossed atleast 1 gets to day 5

@MrsKahlo congratulations on all of the eggs, it gives you great odds! It does sound like OHSS as many people who have more than 20 eggs get it. I have been prescribed some medicine from my clinic to deal with it, maybe give your clinic a call and see if they can give you advice or some meds

We had the call today, 7 of the 12 fertilised, feeling very anxious for our day 3 and 5 calls but trying to put it to the back of our minds and enjoy the weekend!

LuC22 · 09/12/2022 21:51

@22Mama good on you for giving your boss an ear full. I'm sure it wasnt pleasant but maybe he'll be a bit more sensitive in future!

@Brit22 stay positive...its still early x

@ZAMichelin1991 sorry to hear that you went through that. As you say it only takes one x

I had my day 5 transfer yesterday which was fine...call today though that the other 5 embryos aren't fit for freezing which was really disappointing. But just trying to focus that this could be the one 🤞🏻. Blood test booked for the 19th 😬

MrsKahlo · 09/12/2022 22:56

@AM08 oh congratulations- thats really positive news! Fingers and toes crossed for you, I agree try and enjoy your weekend.

Thats really interesting re: medication, I will be hearing from my clinic tomorrow so if its no better I will ask for some support. I really hope its not OHSS 😩

TheGlitterFairy · 10/12/2022 07:27

@22Mama great news on the 10! Hope you’re feeling ok after the collection and all goes well for transfer!
sounds as though your boss needed to be told what was what! Good for you!!

@Brit22 fingers crossed for a positive test. When’s your official test day?

TheGlitterFairy · 10/12/2022 07:31

@ZAMichelin1991 good luck for your transfer date being Tuesday 🤞 sorry that you had a hard time with the collection too - I think they can be tough.

@LuC22 congrats on your transfer - sorry to hear that the others can’t be frozen. Really hoping this is the one and good luck for the 19th.

TheGlitterFairy · 10/12/2022 07:41

@MrsKahlo wonderful news on the number of eggs collected! Absolutely - hope the clinic can advise on any meds needed etc ; do let them know if you’re not feeling too good.

@AM08 great news on the lucky 7!! Hope your call goes well on day 3/5. The wait is hard!

@22Mama you asked about injections - sadly no, there are more to go! I have a progesterone IM injection every other day - just had one now and have a hot water bottle on the site while I’m messaging…..they’re pretty hard core so pleased it’s only every other day this time - think I did 8 weeks daily last time then switched to Lubion which is a subcutaneous progesterone injection til we got to week 12 of the pregnancy. We have a way to go if it’s all successful.

Got a call from the embryologist team yesterday and we’re all booked in for transfer on Tuesday afternoon. He said the issues with thawing are unusual so hopefully last time when one didn’t was our unusual time and this one will be ok. I’m not holding my breath and it’ll be a miracle if we get to the clinic on Tuesday I think regardless of what happens after that!!

Btw if anyone ever had to do one of the IM injections for progesterone - we have a bit of a circus with it - with info gathered mainly from these boards - which seems to help: warm the vial up under your arm for 10 mins; ice the area before hand; get partner to draw on you where it’s going to be (there’s a specific area that it needs to be in so you miss the sciatic nerve 😬); whichever side it is, put your knee on a chair so the muscle is relaxed; then hot water bottle on area afterwards. Sounds crazy but makes them less painful at the time and afterwards too.

Anyway! Hope everyone makes it through the weekend ok and roll on positive calls and transfers next week 🙏

Brit22 · 10/12/2022 08:02

@ZAMichelin1991 It’s defiantly over. Another negative this morning. 😔😔.

At least over half had fertilised of yours. I had 15 only 7 did. I had a 3 day transfer and nothing to freeze out of all them. So it’s back to square 1 now. Now it’s finding money to fund another go.

@MrsKahlo Welcome to the group. 29 eggs is great. I’m excited to hear how they get on.

@AM08 Thanks but I defiantly think it’s over now.

At least over half have fertilised for you aswell 😊. I bet you’re excited to hear that call. Hopefully they cooking away nicely and you get a day 5 transfer.

@LuC22 its 10 days now and not even a sight of a line.

Great to hear you had your day 5 transfer. It’s awful knowing that there isn’t anything to freeze isn’t it and you just have to focus on the one inside you. I really hope you get a positive result 🤞🏼.

@TheGlitterFairy No another BFN this morning 😔. My official test date isn’t till the 14th but I know I’m out now.

I see how other clinics do blood tests and all that and I haven’t even had a single blood test since I started this process :/ which I find strange. For all I know I could have something wrong with me with my fertility.

LuC22 · 10/12/2022 08:27

@Brit22 I'm really sorry to hear that. That does sound odd that you haven't had a single blood test. I've had so many. I had them when they were determining any fertility issues and what course of treatment I should have and then again every time I went for a scan while on treatment.

Brit22 · 10/12/2022 08:35

@LuC22 Honestly I’ve had nothing like that. So for all I know I could have fertility issues because I’m in a same sex relationship so how would I know if I do or not.

AM08 · 10/12/2022 08:37

@Brit22 Ah I’m absolutely gutted for you, after all you’ve invested physically, financially and emotionally into this process it all seems so very unfair - I hate the saying but it will happen when it’s meant to for you and next time will be your time - sending you virtual hugs.

i am a bit surprised to hear you’ve had no bloods taken - I mean it’s just as important to tracking progress as the scans from what I understand - will you ask your clinic about it?

@LuC22 Have my fingers crossed for you that the one transferred is the one and it all works out - it was the one transferred for a reason so you have to have hope

@MrsKahlo yes definitely keep an eye on it, it’s quite normal to get late onset OHSS after transfer if you get pregnant and it can be pretty intense so really important you try and look after yourself and keep an eye out for symptoms - I was given some meds and told to drink lucozade and have salty crisps to clear my system

@TheGlitterFairy Ah the medications post transfer sound absolutely terrifying lol but so good you have found a process that makes it a bit easier and thank you for sharing - when I finally get to that stage next month I’ll definitely be reviewing your notes

Argh i am just a bag of nerves - I am meeting a friend for the first time in a month tomorrow and I know it’ll be good for me but I just want to be home waiting for the embryologist to call - I have awful awful anxiety and I just keep picturing myself out and about and getting devastating news - I know it’s all so ridiculous and it could be good or okay news but we just seem to have had quite a bit of bad luck so far and i just struggle with remaining positive

Lots of love ladies, thank you all for being here - so good to have you all here to talk to!

Brit22 · 10/12/2022 09:02

@AM08 Thank you and I hope so.

Im definitely going to mention it when I go back to the clinic because everyone seems to have them done. Also now I’m thinking did they really look into my scans because the last one she said it might have a polyp. Then the next thing I know I’m having the transfer.

AM08 · 10/12/2022 09:13

@Brit22 definitely query it with them, it doesn’t seem like they have given you very detailed care unfortunately - I mean the polyp if there was one should have been identified from the start…

We had a rubbish consultant when we first started and kicked up a fuss and have moved to one that is really nice (I met him when he did my hysteroscopy which it turned out I never needed but the first doctor prescribed) and having the right care really does make a difference.

Have the clinic booked a follow up with you?

TheGlitterFairy · 10/12/2022 09:19

@AM08 apologies I didn’t mean to scare you or anyone else!! I think for most people, a FET is less medicated than mine is - and mainly people just have estrogen patches/ tablets and pessaries and no needles; there are so many issues that I have (!) the consultant is basically throwing all they have at me in the hope that it will work.

again, most people don’t need to down reg with a FET and can just go with their normal cycle; I have endometriosis and am 44 with a low ovarian reserve and my cycles are really irregular so we did a full medicated round so they have control over me and the cycle. This is the last roll of the dice for us so gritting my teeth and getting the jabs done.

TheGlitterFairy · 10/12/2022 09:20

@Brit22 agreed def query if you need to move to another round of treatment. Where are you based? I’m London and happy to pass on consultant details if this is helpful - he’s amazing 🤩

i have my fingers crossed for the 14th for you.

Brit22 · 10/12/2022 09:47

@AM08 Thinking back now I don’t think they did either tbh. I will be querying it.
Im guessing I’ll get a follow up when I report the results to them.

@TheGlitterFairy I’m based in the North East and have been travelling down to Leeds. Sounds fab but London may be abit too far.

LuC22 · 10/12/2022 09:57

@Brit22 I'm with Create doing an NHS cycle. I'll stay with Create if I have to do another one as I think they've been great...obviously got nothing to compare against though!

AM08 · 10/12/2022 10:08

@Brit22 definitely have a proper chat with them but don’t hesitate to move clinics next time round if you don’t feel like their response is very solid

@TheGlitterFairy haha bless you, you haven’t scared me, I think basically CRGH throw all of the drugs on you regardless of circumstances so daily I’ll be on Lubion, inhixia blood thinners (which are meant to really hurt and bruise) and pessaries - I don’t really feel it’s all needed but it seems to be there way. Sorry to hear about your situation re AMH and Endo but it sounds like your getting really tailored care which is brilliant and fingers crossed your going to get a good result

@LuC22 have heard good things about create, I do like CRGH but think if I was going to go somewhere else it would be with them

Brit22 · 10/12/2022 10:11

@LuC22 I’m with ABC IVF and create is there sister clinic.
The staff were lovely I can’t fault that.

Brit22 · 12/12/2022 08:40

It’s safe to say it’s not worked 😢. My period came this morning.

LuC22 · 12/12/2022 09:02

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that @Brit22

AM08 · 12/12/2022 11:50

@Brit22 sorry to hear, how are you feeling about it? I can imagine pretty down

TheGlitterFairy · 12/12/2022 11:57

@Brit22 really sorry to hear this. Hope you’re doing as ok as you can be x

ZAMichelin1991 · 12/12/2022 12:10

So sorry @Brit22 sending lots of love your way.
