December IVF

Hi 👋 I can't see a thread for December IVF so thought I'd start one for those squeezing in treatment before the Christmas cut off.

Backstory from me: one toddler DD from previous IVF ICSI in 2020. Trying for baby 2, have lost our 3 frozen embryos from our first round over the last few months (2 failed FETs and one didn't survive thaw) so heading into a new round. Aiming for a fresh transfer if possible after a freeze all cycle last time due to OHSS risk so I'm starting on low dose bemfola 112.5. AF due next week so just waiting for my meds to arrive the back to being a pin cushion for the next few weeks!

@Eggling best of luck with the injections tomorrow!

@TheGlitterFairy I'm due to start mine the following week. Currently on norethisterone until Friday when I have a baseline scan. Then I think AF should arrive a few days after that and I'll start. How are you getting on?

Eggling · 14/11/2022 19:52

Thanks all, jab 1 done! I hope you e all had a better day than me, I've been an emotional wreck all day - going to blame AF and the stress of ivf but it's been a difficult day. Hoping to feel more positive soon! I was nervous about the injections which is daft as I know they're fine from last time but I barely felt it.

@Eggling exciting that you’ve started the meds! Make sure you take it easy though.
My medication is due to get delivered tomorrow and Ive never wanted my period to come so much 😂.

Leo1stpregnancy · 14/11/2022 20:27

Hi all,
A bit about me; struggled to get pregnant for 5 years. After 3 weeks of acupuncture last May we fell pregnant! Unfortunately we lost it 6 weeks later, fast forward to now. We lost another 2 at separate times again at 6 weeks. And the most recent loss was a pregnancy of unknown location terminated with methotrexate. So in the last 3 months of not been able to try we’ve done our own research into IVF. We are not eligible through NHS so took it upon ourselves to go private.

I’m awaiting blood results for NK cells. We’ve just signed our consent forms and are awaiting our protocol (the wait is killing me!). Looks like I’ll be a month behind you all and starting December period ready for egg retrieval in January.

We have also opted to have pre genetic tests done on our embryos due to the 3rd miscarriage having chromosome abnormalities.

I’m 39 years old, unexplained fertility issues (so far). However my follicle count was 7 on my right ovary but none on the left, they think it’s because I was nearing ovulation and they couldn’t see them. My AMH is 4! So we are hoping for quality not quantity in my potential low collection 🙏🏼

How does everyone stay positive? I’ve had so much thrown at me in 18 months and now the added pressure of how expensive it is, we just need it to work! 😩

Eggling · 14/11/2022 20:44

@Brit22 mine came really quickly this time, I wasn't expecting it until Wednesday

@Leo1stpregnancy oh gosh you've really been through the mill, I hope you've got good real life support. In terms of staying positive the short answer is I don't, very well 🤦‍♀️ it's just kind of no choice but to do it. I know the cost is an extra stress, I've had many an hour lying awake adding up how much we've spent and thinking what else that could have been spent on. Do you have nice plans iver Christmas and new year to try and make the wait more bearable? I know it's such a tricky time of year, especially when you'll be in the middle of an ivf cycle.

Eggling · 14/11/2022 20:45

Sorry @Brit22 meant to say hope yours comes quickly too, I wasn't just gloating about my speedy bleeding!

kamaha · 15/11/2022 09:58

@Eggling I'm glad the 1st injection wasn't too bad, but sorry you had a difficult day - it's such an emotional rollercoaster plus the added hormones really don't help. I do hope today's a better day xx

@Brit22 exciting that the meds are arriving today! I hope AF hurries up and arrives soon too (oh the irony of wanting a period when TTC!) xx

Hi @Leo1stpregnancy and welcome! I'm so sorry you've had such a tough 18 months. It really is so difficult to stay positive through it all - I often feel like it's just so unfair it isn't happening (especially when others can make it seem so easy!). i second what @Eggling said about having some nice things planned (even small things) to look forward to to make the wait more bearable, but I know it isn't always easy with all that's going on. I hope you get positive news on the bloods and your protocol comes through soon xx

naevo · 15/11/2022 11:50

Hey everyone. I hope you don't mind me joining. I had my scheduling appointment today and we start ICSI on my next natural cycle due on the 26th Nov. Egg collection hopefully the week commencing 12th December. We have been trying for 2 years and have slight MFI. I'm so nervous but a little excited to start the journey.
Wishing everyone all the luck! Xx

TheGlitterFairy · 15/11/2022 13:32

@Eggling well done on the first injection - despite having done them previously they’re still hard to do! Hope you’re feeling a bit better today too. It’s an emotional journey starting a round again - I’ve been very upset and down the last week wondering what I’m earth we’re doing trying to do it again for.

Hi @Leo1stpregnancy and @naevo sorry you’ve had long waits to get going with things. For me - positivity ebbs and flows though I’ve always found some comfort in making sure that I’m doing all I can (with the treatment) so that whatever the outcome I won’t have any regrets going forward.

@Brit22 hope your meds arrived and you can get started soon!

@kamaha not long til your scan on Friday!!

All good here - day 9 of buserelin and down reg - last week really felt the hormones and was very tetchy on and off all week; think my body has got more used to it now as feel on a more even keel - just hope it’s working. Scan on Tuesday so a week to go and hopefully can start the estrogen to build the lining up and really get going. I find downregging the hardest part as makes me feel v tired and I don’t feel as though I’m getting anywhere. Least on part two they’re building the lining up and you can see what’s happening. Counting down the days…

Brit22 · 15/11/2022 13:40

My meds have been delivered, now it’s just wait for the period to start. I’m never late but I can just tell this will be the first for everything.

I hope everyone is getting on well 😊.

kamaha · 15/11/2022 19:03

@Brit22 exciting that the meds have arrived. Fingers crossed AF isn't too far behind so you can get started soon!

Thanks @TheGlitterFairy - glad to almost be getting going (although I suspect I might not feel the same once the injections actually start!). I'm sorry you've been having such a tough time of if, but glad you're feeling a bit better this week. Hopefully this next week goes quickly for you and you can move on to the next stage.

Hey @naevo - welcome! I completely relate to the mixed nerves and slight excitement about it all. Wishing you all the luck too xx

Eggling · 15/11/2022 20:21

@Brit22 great that the meds arrived! Hopefully AF will be here very soon.

Glad things are going ok @TheGlitterFairy, I've never done downregging, it sounds tough. The waiting and time is such a hard part of this process.

Hi @naevo welcome! I'm doing ICSI too. You're so right about excitement and nerves, it's a weird feeling.

Hope everyone is doing ok, I've been a bit emotionally 'fragile' again today, have had a long hot shower to try and sort myself out a bit. I think I'm struggling to feel positive after the last few failures and completely dreading the TWW - I was a total emotional wreck last time and was blaming it on being "pregnant" when of course I wasn't. Plus then terrified of another negative result. See, not many positive thoughts! Need to work on that a bit.

OP posts:
naevo · 16/11/2022 14:07

@Eggling Sorry your feeling down, I hope you're feeling a little better today? I can't imagine how hard the tww is going to be let alone when you've already been through transfers that didn't work out.

From my normal tww of naturally trying, I always found it better to not build my hopes up so there was no disappointment in the end. But that's the negative Nancy in me!

I'm almost scared of how hopeful I feel going into ICSI, I feel like I'm being so naive!

Brit22 · 16/11/2022 19:40

Hi everyone, just some advice please 😊. My period has just started, do I take benfola tomorrow night or the next night?

TheGlitterFairy · 16/11/2022 20:54

@Brit22 i think they class day 1 of your cycle the day that your period is a full day / before midday…..happy to be corrected if others have more up to date knowledge on this!

naevo · 16/11/2022 21:09

@Brit22 @TheGlitterFairy My doctor told me the same. Day one is the first full day of bleed x

Brit22 · 16/11/2022 21:34

@TheGlitterFairy @naevo Thank you 😊. So glad I came across this site as it’s been so useful.

Eggling · 17/11/2022 13:30

Glad it's arrived @Brit22! Same as has been said, I've been told full flow before midday is day 1, if later than that the following day is day 1.

@naevo I think it's great to feel optimistic! I felt like that with my first round - just so relieved to be finally getting on with it and having a chance of having my baby - and we got DD so it didn't do any harm! I'm feeling a bit more balanced today, looking forward to my scan tomorrow to see how things are going and hoping to get a bit of an indication on when egg collection might be and if a fresh transfer is likely to be an option, although I guess may have to wait for next week for clear answers.

Brit22 · 17/11/2022 20:42

Thanks everyone. I rang the clinic to book in for my 5 day scan and they said to start it tomorrow night.

kamaha · 19/11/2022 09:24

@Brit22 I'm glad AF finally arrived. How was the first injection last night - I hope it all went well.

@Eggling how did the scan go yesterday? Hopefully everything is going OK and you got a bit more idea about egg collection and transfer options.

@TheGlitterFairy I hope you're doing OK. Not too much longer until your scan.

I had my baseline scan yesterday and it all seemed OK, so I had my last dose of norethisterone yesterday evening and just waiting for AF so I can start the injections.

I hope everyone else is doing well xx

Eggling · 19/11/2022 13:14

Glad the scan went well @kamaha, hopefully AF makes a speedy appearance.

My scan was uneventful, except for a total nightmare finding a parking space 😅 follicles are only at 6-7 so staying in bemfola only for now, next scan Monday morning so hopefully some progress then and then can start cetrotide. I'm on 112.5 bemfola. Last round started on 125 and had to reduce so hoping that a slower start will avoid having to do a freeze all again.

OP posts:
Brit22 · 19/11/2022 17:24

@kamaha first injection went okay in terms of any side effects but I’m worried that when I done it and pulled the needle out there was abit of the liquid around it on my belly. I just hope I’m doing it right. I’ve got my first scan on Monday so I’m sure they will tell me if not.

i hope your okay after your scan and that you get to start your injections soon 😊. X

kamaha · 19/11/2022 21:51

@Brit22 I'm glad the first injection itself wasn't too bad, and I'm sure it's not a problem that there was a bit of liquid when you pulled the needle out, but hopefully the nurses can reassure you on Monday. And I hope all goes well with the scan xx

@Eggling what is it with parking at fertility clinics?! Ours is terrible too! It's just an added stress you really don't need! I hope your scan on Monday goes well too and the lower starting dose means the option to do a fresh transfer this time xx

They've told me AF should start on Tuesday, which would mean starting injections Wednesday night, but AF rarely plays ball, so who knows if that'll actually be what happens 😂

Brit22 · 20/11/2022 06:38

@kamaha the same happened last night so I really do hope I’m doing it right.

Our parking is great at Leeds, it’s free and lots of spaces to pick from right outside of the clinic.

Fingers crossed it comes Tuesday for you 🤞🏼 x

Eggling · 20/11/2022 20:39

@Brit22 I had a couple of drops fall from the needle tonight after it went in, DH thinks it gathered in the twisty bit when we adjusted the dose but it hasn't happened before. I'm guessing they will make it as straightforward to do at home as possible, so hopefully the liquid is fine. Hope your scan goes well tomorrow!

@kamaha hope AF is prompt this time!

I'm going extra early to the clinic tomorrow to tackle the parking situation, wish ours was more like yours @Brit22!
