First cycle of IVF - buddies please!

Hi everyone,

Been on the conception boards a fair bit but this is first time on the infertility section.
Bit of background - 28 and been TTC for two years for first child. Had one miscarriage about 10 months ago at 5 weeks. Had all our fertility checks and no major issues have been identified. Consultant suggested IVF for us so we are currently in that process.
Nurse consultation is 2nd July and then hoping it’s not long after then!

Looking for some buddies to keep me going through it all as hate all kinds of hospital things and to stop me over thinking about!

Thanks all! Home now ☺️ I slept through the entire thing, can’t believe it! Like literally I heard the anaesthetist say the first bit had gone in and take about 15 seconds to kick in and that was it. Woke up for some food and then was ready to go.
They collected 8 eggs and said 7 were mature and viable. Feels a bit small but google says is lower end of average. No issue with OH sperm so they doing normal mixing. Should get a call tomorrow on how many have been fertilised -very nervous!

Woman opposite me had 20 eggs and they had to freeze her cycle so guess there’s a silver lining to it!

@CatMarina I’ll be on 800mg from tonight so let you know how I go!

What was your attrition? 6 fertilised to how many embryos? Hope I get as many as you :)

@Questions2 glad it helped! We found video the most useful. Also found not over thinking it helped a lot, if you’re in the tummy, you can’t go too far wrong below the belly button!

@LS2020 omg that’s so nice!! I had 8 eggs collected and 6 fertilised then by day 2 I only had 4 then by day 4 I only had 2. Hope that makes sense.
We are all so brave!! 🥰

@ls2020 ahh that's great! Pleased you're feeling ok! My advice now I to try and keep yourself distracted because the wait to hear how your egg and embryos are getting on is hard!! Everything crossed for good news tomorrow. And yes I feel the woman's pain opposite you, my EC was 5 weeks ago and still waiting on AF yo get started with FET so at least with the number of eggs you've had collected you can focus on a fresh transfer later this week!

@CatMarina how are you feeling? Hoping your two are making themselves comfortable!

How is everyone else doing? My cycle is totally messed up since egg collection which is so annoying as desperate for it to arrive now. It's typical though because I'm regular 28 days every month and I'm on 32 now so not sign of AF, suppose it's just the aftermath of all the medication.

@dogmam I’m feeling good but petrified at the same time! Knowing we have another cycle paid for is settling. I’ve been saying to myself over and over “hope for the best and plan for the worst and we’ve already planned so relax!” It’s strange as I am finding this 2 week wait easier (so far) then the days following the egg collection with the daily updates.
I really hope they’re comfy in there 🤞🏼🤞🏼 How are you? Fingers crossed for you too! Hopefully not much longer! Its always late when you want it on time. Must be hard x

@dogmam omg I am obsessing googling rates of fertilisation etc. I thought I’d be back to work tomorrow but they said 48 hours to me today which I’m grateful for as I am still so sore. But hoping work will keep me busy. How typical on AF! Would have thought still 14 days after your trigger as isn’t that ovulation in your bodies head?!

How did everyone find the bleeding after EC? I thought it was easing off but just woke from a nap and there felt loads when I went to bathroom and it’s panicked me a bit!

Put my pessaries in and my poor lady parts are fuming 😂

@LS2020 well done on getting 8 egg collections today! Soreness takes a good few days I found! I didn't have much of a bleed did you have scar tissue could be a reason if so?

@hopingfor the soreness is better than yesterday so here’s hoping 🤞🏻I don’t think so. It doesn’t feel loads but maybe more than I was expecting. Had another lump of blood mixed in with pessaries this morning but then barely any so hopefully just healing. I think they said I had a retroverted uterus so maybe it’s a weirder angle or something?

Oh gosh the nerves this morning are awful. Being off work isn’t helping 😓

Got the call from hospital - only one fertilised egg made it through the night 😔
They said all of them but one fertilised but they had too many nuclei which is normally caused by too many sperm getting in or can be egg not dividing properly so they said it’s probably given some idea to why it hasn’t happened yet. Guess now all I can do is wait?”!

@LS2020 Good morning lovely, so sorry to hear about your news. But remember it only takes one! 🤞🏼 Hopefully you’re not on your own too much and you’re able to switch off from it all as I know every second is hard so if you’re able to switch off for even a few minutes it makes it easier. Xx

@CatMarina yes trying to keep positive and as nurse said that it’s probably why we’ve not conceived in TTC, I’m hoping that means the fact this one made it means it’s viable and no further issues.
Google seems to think ICSI should correct out for next try.

@LS2020 aw I can really sympathise with how you must be feeling. It's a huge blow to get such news BUT as you say, that one embryo has overcome what seems to have been the issue all along, so no reason why it shouldn't make it all the way to day 5 now. When is your next update? Would they consider a day 3 transfer? Might be worth asking the clinic what their thoughts are. It's also great to know that ICSI is your answer moving forward IF you need to. Look after yourself, when I got bad news on my day 3 update from the embryologist I cried and cried and actually rang in sick so if that's what you need to do, then go for it. Even if you just go out for a drive if you're not up for walking and still sore. Thinking of you and sending loads of positive thoughts for your one special embryo!

@dogmam they basically said they wouldn’t know until Friday if it’s viable so I’ll get a call then to book me in for Saturday. I have said if anything happens that it’s not viable, they’d give me a ring before then but don’t expect I will.
I’m thankfully off today anyway as agreed with work I would take 48 hours off after retrieval but am a bit worried now if they ring with bad news tomorrow that I won’t be able to cope. Thanks love, just have to hope all it takes is one as they say… guess it’s more than I’ve had before!

@dogmam hopefully AF will show up soon so that you can start your FET cycle. Will you be on tablets only or injections as well? Sorry if you mentioned it before... my brain is a sieve lately.

@Ally0400 it's been a relaxed couple of days so far. I'm actually glad we decided to travel. No obsessing at all (much!) and the news I was waiting for have finally arrived this morning.

I received my treatment plan. Baseline scan booked for Monday 23rd and we'll go over consent forms and will be shown how to mix and administer medication. Will stop the pill Sunday next week and start Gonal F on 2/09. EC provisionally scheduled for 16/09.

Can't believe we are finally starting!

@LS2020 1 egg is still 1whole beautiful egg! Your not out just yet! We did ICSI too! I swear the waiting is the worst of this whole process!

@hopingfor I saw someone say that this but and TWW is worst bit of process and I agree!

I’m just trying to keep hopeful that this is actually the furthest we’ve ever got, not sure we’ll have ever had a normal fertilised egg given this news so hoping we’ve still got a chance or even if not, we’re a bit further this time!

@LS2020 hope you are ok My friend only had 1 and her 1 is her beautiful boy. I only had 2 one frozen and one my growing baby bean but that shows it is quantity over quality. Try stay positive 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 xx
