IVF - egg collection June (starting down regulation in May)

Luz192 · 07/05/2021 15:58

Hi ladies, would be great to chat to anyone who is about to start down regulation, in prep for stims later in the month and egg collection early June.

I start Norethisterone tomorrow. Will be at UCLH/CRGH, first ever IVF. We have MFI.

Mostly terrified of the needles! I have this irrational fear that I could puncture an organ - someone tell me that's not possible?! lol

@Aim2912 amazing! All feels real now doesn't it! Mines 9pm. I've been given some 'chill' tablets too for tomorrow night and Wednesday morning so hopefully I can get some sleep. I've never had a operation so really nervous! Do they just give u oxygen and sedate u then u don't know anything else until in recovery? I hope u don't mind me asking but how did ur first ivf go? X

@ivf2021 it's just what my area offers. My brother and sister in law got offered 2 cycles 3 years ago so it must have changed.

I got a phone call at lunchtime with all the info so have to arrive for 9.45am with procedure at 10.30am (so trigger tonight at 10.30, gotta make sure I stay awake!!). Because of the distance my poor OH has to do his sample at the hospital 🤦🏾‍♀️

@ivf2021 when you go into the room they put an oxygen mask on. Then when they’re ready, they put a painkiller in your cannula. That can make you light headed but not too bad. Then they put the sedative. Depending on what one you get, you can feel that going in, like a little tingle, but nothing major for us injection pros. You’ll start to feel tired and then you’ll wake up probably back in your little cubicle. You’ll be groggy but you should feel fine. Plenty of time to lie in your wee bed and have a snooze! Some people take longer to recover but you can be ready in an hour. That was my experience. I’m guessing it can vary by person. My friend felt nauseous afterwards but totally fine the next day.

Just make sure you have no plans for rest of day, maybe get some ready meals and drinks in the house for something simple to eat/drink after.

@Coops0406 it's awful how different places in the country offer different rounds isn't it! We're lucky in the north east and get 3. Haha he will be fine! They get the easy part don't they! We have mfi so my OH has done about 5 at our clinic as they have had to freeze some as a back up. It will be hard staying up for u but I'm really looking forward to an injection free day tomorrow!

@Ofpalestsilver thank you sooo much for that 🙏🏻That's really helped and calmed my nerves! I'm abit of a control freak so knowing what I'm expecting makes it easier. How are u feeling after today??

@ivf2021 so so tired. I didn’t expect how much. I came home and fell asleep on sofa. Then had something to eat and went to bed haha. I’m planning on going to bed again soon. Hopefully will get a good nights sleep as I have a busy work week ahead! That’ll keep me occupied while I wait to see what happens.

@ivf2021 wow! I'm definitely in the wrong place!! It's ridiculous how much it varies based on where you live!
Yes...looking forward to a lie in tomorrow as we have been doing my injections at 6.30am so that we had time to get over for our scans!

Hope all the triggers go well tonight and we can have a restful day tomorrow 😍

@Ofpalestsilver glad it all went well. 11 is a good number hope they all develope in to amazing day 5s!!!

@ivf2021, ofpalestsilver has described the sedation spot on as it's fresh in her head!
On my first cycle we collected 7 eggs, all fertilised, but only 2 went on past day 3 one was put back at day 4 which didnt implanted, the other one they tried to grow further to freeze but it arrested as well. So ended up with a bfn and nothing to freeze. It wasn't easy to digest at first but here I am again feeling more positive then before. Smile.

@Aim2912 ur amazing! ❤️ U seem really positive and because u have been through it all before u now know what to expect.

Hi, I hope you don't mind me jumping on and joining the chat. I started my third cycle of IVF yesterday; Menopur 150 and Fyremadel.

Our previous cycles haven't been very successful.
Cycle 1:
22 eggs
14 fertilised
1 blast (frozen)
Failed FET

Cycle 2:
34 eggs
5 fertilised
0 blast

Really hoping this is it for us 🤞🏼💛✨

@unknownscot welcome! 😊 were you on a higher dose of stims for your previous cycles? Are they trying to reduce the stimulation for this cycle?
I have high AMH and they thought polycycstic ovaries and have been on 225 meriofert and fyremadel but haven't responded too well to it...scan yesterday only showed 3-4 follicles over 16mm so just wondered with your high egg numbers whether you had high AMH/pcos?

Thanks. Yes, high AMH (54.7 if I remember correctly?)

I was on the same protocol as I am just now for cycle 1.
Cycle 2 I had Prostap then 200IU Menopur.

I've doubled dosed on stims day 1 and day 2 for this cycle so will see what happens I guess.

@unknownscot sorry to hear about your previous attempts.... i guess your situation goes to show its the quality that matters over quantity.
has your clinic said anything to you about egg or semen quality from you previous cycles or is that all fine for you. i really hope this time works for you. x

Hi, hope you guys don’t mind me joining too. I’ve just had my third egg collection yesterday. Got 13 eggs. Nervously waiting to hear how many were mature and fertilised today. As we had icsi last time and few fertilised, were also doing imsi too. I’m really hoping this is our cycle! We’re doing freeze all, so at least a having a welcome break from the medications at the moment. We’ve only had one fresh transfer in the past which was BFN and none to freeze.

@unknownscot sounds like we have similar experiences. Good luck!

@fairycakes86 good luck with the cycle. Have you heard back from them yet about the numbers fertilised?

@unknownscot sorry to hear that you've had negative experiences. i really hope this will be your cycle. why did you double dose on the first days - is that to get things up and running?

I heard this morning that 9 of my 11 eggs fertilised normally. I'm quite shocked by that and delighted. Of course I know that the next five days will be long days and anything can happen but I'm crossing everything in hope. My mum is religious so I have her praying away. I'm an atheist but I'll accept any good thoughts these days! :)

@Fairycakes86 @unknownscot fingers crossed this is your round ladies!

@Ofpalestsilver that is fantastic!! Let's hope it keeps going this way. Only a few more days to get through 🤞🏾

@Aim2912 yes definitely! A different morning and a little change in mindset has worked wonders. I think sometimes it's the initial shock of hearing something you don't expect to hear but once you digest and get your rational head on, things look a little better 😊 have a lovely day in the sunshine!

@Coops0406 best of luck for your EC tomorrow, the day before actually feels so nice and chilled without injections, right?!

@Ofpalestsilver that's great to hear! The 5 days are nervewracking, I'm not going to lie hahaha. But try keep busy. I'm awaiting tomorrow's Day 5 call eagerly. I've heard several times that sperm can impact Day 3 to 5 so this was always going to be the hardest wait for us because of our MFI.

@Fairycakes86 welcome!! good luck for today's call.

@unknownscot welcome :) Did the docs give any indication what may have happened in previous cycles?

I am feeling slightly better from the OHSS today - way less pain than yesterday. The doctor who did my EC had told me that often OHSS kicks in on Day 3 or 4 after EC, not immediately after. No idea why this is though. But the first two days after EC, I was totally fine - doing normal things. Hopefully in a few days I'll be totally back to normal.

Thanks ladies!

@Ofpalestsilver That's great news! Fingers crossed for you. Are you planning fresh or frozen transfers?

I have just heard back. 9 mature and 7 fertilised so very happy with that. Much higher % of fertilisation that the last 2 cycles! Trying to keep positive but not get my hopes up too much.

Thanks all for the good luck for tomorrow...currently relaxing in the garden with a book! Just what the doctor ordered! So lucky to live in the countryside (apart from the smell of pig 💩 which luckily only stayed around for yesterday!) 🤣

@Coops0406 that looks very idyllic ! Hope you’re having a really relaxing day ahead of tomorrow. Exciting!

@Luz192 my work is soooooo busy it’s keeping me distracted! Although five days is a lot of days to try to remain chilled. Interesting about day 3-5 and sperm having an effect.

@Fairycakes86 we’re going fresh so transfer on Saturday. 7 out of 9 is a good result! Here’s hoping they continue to develop as they should. Are you fresh or frozen?
