Hi ladies, I’ve been through all of my fertility screening tests etc and am due to start my first and hopefully only round of IVF (positive vibes Smile ) soon. I’m looking to share my hopes, experiences and tips and provide support to anyone else expecting to start a cycle soon. The more the merrier!

Yes @Tara8! Well done!

mayihavesomecakeplease · 08/10/2020 12:07

@Tara8 That's great!! So pleased for you :) (And how funny that there's two of us with birthday's this weekend! Hoping for 'good gifts' only!)

Lightningrain · 08/10/2020 12:45

I’m back home now. Unfortunately they didn’t manage to get any eggs so the consultant is putting me on the list for a phone consultation to discuss where to go from here. It was worth a try anyway.

I actually remember a fair bit of being in theatre. There was some unexpected bleeding which resulted in them all rushing about and it was quite painful when they were trying to stop it. The anaesthetist ended up giving me more of the sedation meds which meant I was around 3.5 hours from arriving to being allowed home.

I’m in quite a bit of pain now so I’ve been told to take co-codamol. I assume it’s related to whatever caused the bleeding. My plan is to chill out for the rest of the day and hopefully I’ll have better luck next time!

It sounds like the rest of the group are having some good results. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you all!

Sunbird24 · 08/10/2020 12:55

So sorry to hear that @Lightningrain,,hope you’re out of pain soon and the consultant has a good plan for next time

Lolly2020 · 08/10/2020 13:16

I'm so sorry @Lightningrain you did the right thing going for it otherwise you would have always thought "what if" I hope you get some answers and a way forward at your consultation. Rest up these next few days and take care of yourself ❤

Mrsmch123 · 08/10/2020 15:56

@Tara8 congrats on your numbers😀I'm in tomorrow for EC. My husband isn't allowed in so I have to take his contribution with me😂

@Lightningrain sorry to hear that. Hope you feel better soon

Dinky06 · 08/10/2020 16:43

@Lightningrain so sorry to hear your news. How are you feeling? For what it's worth, I think I would have done the same and tried my luck too. I hope you're able to rest and take it easy ❤️ x

@Tara8 that's great! I'm sure some extra birthday magic will make a difference :) Hope you have a cake filled day!

@ThePurpleFairy how did today go? I hope the drive down was smooth.

@Sunbird24 yay! What lovely news! Good luck over the weekend.

Thanks to everyone that provided EC tips. I'm still waiting for the clinic to call today to update me on my trigger time and what to expect for Saturday. Crazy IVF demons have kicked in and I'm obvi thinking I've been forgotten. Hoping they call soon!!

I'm sorry to hear you've that @mayihavesomecakeplease take care of yourself.

@Dinky06 my ec experiences have been similar to the others. DH was allowed in with me. Initially they'd put a stop to it but they reintroduced quite early on. I hate the " have they forgotten me" anxiety! I got in a right state over it once. I now always ask what is latest they will call so I know when to chase it up.

Great news @Tara8 and @Sunbird24 🤞🏻🤞🏻 for the next few days. X

Dinky06 · 08/10/2020 18:04

Thanks @SpyroC I called just after 5 and was told they made calls until 7...

I got the update just a few mins ago and trigger is at 7.30pm this eve and EC at 8.30am on Saturday! I felt a bit tearful after. Crazy hormones!

Thanks everyone Smile I’ve had to take more co-codamol but had a couple of hours’ sleep and feel a bit better. My stomach is very swollen though. I was told to take it easy for the rest of today and tomorrow so I think I’ll be looking through Netflix for something to watch.

The anaesthetist told me it should be quick and straightforward before we went in given there was only one follicle. It must have been towards the end of the procedure when I heard him saying I’ll give you some more of the sedation and the next thing telling the nurses that it would take me longer to come around as he’d had to give me extra. It obviously wasn’t as straightforward as they expected! I just hope there’s something they can do for a better result next time.

Good luck for tomorrow @Mrsmch123 and hope your trigger goes ok @Dinky06.

ThePurpleFairy · 08/10/2020 20:24

@Lightningrain sorry you didn’t get the results that you hoped for. I hope that you start to feel better soon

@Dinky06 thank you, it went ok, now just in bed watching Netflix. Stuffed myself with dinner and that will be it now, last meal had as I can’t eat after midnight. Will just get up before 7:30am to have a last drink of water! Getting quite nervous now!

Mrsmch123 · 09/10/2020 13:49

All done 10 eggs collected😁😁

Sunbird24 · 09/10/2020 13:54

Well done @Mrsmch123! Take it easy for the next couple of days and relax

ThePurpleFairy · 09/10/2020 14:07

@Mrsmch123 Nice one well done! Me too, had 17 eggs out Smile back at hotel now and now starts the nervous wait for phone calls

ivfjourney5 · 09/10/2020 14:10

Yey glad egg collections have gone well this morning, take care of yourselves x

Lightningrain · 09/10/2020 14:12

Great results @Mrsmch123 and @ThePurpleFairy. Fingers crossed for a good number of them turning into embryos.

I’ve had a call today to say the soonest they can give me a phone appointment is the 19th so I’ve got to wait 10 days to find out what they suggest for me.

I’m still quite achy today - how were your experiences of collection and how are you feeling now? I’m trying to work out whether I was just unlucky or if I’ve got to prepare for the same again next time!

ThePurpleFairy · 09/10/2020 14:20

@Lightningrain I found it ok, I was heavily sedated so I basically went to sleep and knew nothing about it. I remember the cannula going in and then putting an oxygen mask on, then she put the medication into the cannula and told me to take deep breaths and that was it, the next thing I remember is being back in the recovery bay.

They gave me 2 cups of water and a tea and some biscuits, told me egg numbers, asked me to wee to make sure my bladder was working, then came to take the cannula out and sent me on my way.

Pain wise I don’t feel much if anything, maybe a slight ache but it’s ok. She said I had paracetamol in the IV and that I can next take some at 15:00. She also advised to keep dosed up on paracetamol as she said it’s best to keep on top of it rather than let pain build up then try to manage it down.

ivfjourney5 · 09/10/2020 14:20

@Lightningrain it took me a good week to start to feel normal after egg collection and the first few days I was regularly taking cocodamol. You've had a lot done to your body so feeling achy is normal. I hope the next 10 days goes quickly for you, hopefully they come up with a good plan for you and discuss what can be changed from this round x

Tara8 · 09/10/2020 14:22

Well done ladies that's great news! Hope you get your calls soon and they don't have you hanging over the weekend. Look after yourselves and get some rest now ready for transfer next week 🤞

How are you doing @Lightningrain ? It sounds like you've really been through it, I'm so sorry to hear it hasn't worked out for you this time around but it's great that you are already looking to the future! The 19th sounds like ages away but I'm sure it will come around quick enough.

I'm also still rather achey, bloated and uncomfortable today. I wanted to go for a walk or something and I tried but it was just too much! Confused

Dinky06 · 09/10/2020 14:33

@Mrsmch123 and @ThePurpleFairy that's great news! V happy for you both. Rest and relax now for you both :)

I took my trigger at 7.30pm last night and am due to arrive at the clinic at 8am tomorrow for an 8.30am collection. DP isn't allowed to accompany me and will get a call when I am done. He just had to go in / out to make his deposit. Getting nervous now! It's an ICSI process and I have no idea if / how that will affect things.

Sending you all positive vibes as we come to the end of a busy week xxx ❤️

@ThePurpleFairy I wish I’d been asleep for all of it. I started out the same as you with the cannula and oxygen but the doctor put the speculum in and injected local anaesthetic into both sides of me before I started to drift off. I then woke up before they finished in pain listening to them talking about stopping the bleeding. I was also awake when they were transferring me to back to the bed. I think I’ll ask if I can be kept topped up with it next time although I suppose everyone must react differently to it.

I was asked to bring 2 paracetamol tablets to take with a sip of water 30 mins before the procedure so couldn’t take any more until lunchtime. The nurse told me to get cocodamol instead as I was leaving.

Thanks @Tara8. I’m sure the time will pass fairly quickly. Im actually looking forward to a bit of a break from it all anyway and letting my body recover. I assume I’ll end up trying again on my November cycle and miss the next one.

@ivfjourney5 thank you! it’s good to know that the aching is normal. A small part of me is glad that I’m not going to have anything else done in the next few days.

ThePurpleFairy · 09/10/2020 14:48

@Lightningrain aww bless your heart, just ask them to wait next time. I was worried they might start before anything happened and I was going to ask them to please wait. I was obviously quite anxious and my breathing was quite fast when they started doing the cannula and the sticky pads on your chest etc. so they might have taken pity and waited until I was out of it!

Sunbird24 · 09/10/2020 14:56

@Lightningrain I came round during mine as well, it was pretty horrendous. If you do have to go through it again make sure they know what happened this time so they can keep on top of it.

@ThePurpleFairy that’s fantastic, here’s hoping for another high number fertilising overnight!

@Dinky06 hope your EC goes well in the morning. It really has been a busy week hasn’t it?

mayihavesomecakeplease · 09/10/2020 15:17

I hope all those that had their ECs this week feel better soon. I had a last scan/covid swap this morning and they've now said that I'm having EC on Tuesday. @Dinky06, good luck for tomorrow!

Lightningrain · 09/10/2020 16:06

@ThePurpleFairy yes, maybe I made it worse for myself by trying to appear calm. I know I’ll be really nervous next time so maybe they’ll be kind.

@Sunbird24 yes, the images of it just keep coming back into my head. I might not be as bothered if it had been successful but it bothers me as I know I’ve got to do it all again. I’ll definitely tell them beforehand and hopefully they’ll realise when I need a top up before I’m aware of what’s going on.
