TTC WITH PCOS

Hi everyone!
Just thought I'd make a thread for anyone TTC with pcos. I have not formally been diagnosed with the condition but pretty sure I am due to my irregular periods and the way my ovaries look on a scan.
I came off the pill August last year and had regular periods and then they just completely stopped in January. I had to have a tablet to induce a period in the end.
Anyway it's been a while now and hard to try and conceive when you know you probably aren't even ovulating.
Any body in a similar position?
Also anyone has any tips/ supplements that might help?

Thanks 😁

@Kg87 I'm not sure about the lean and insulin situation, but diet does have a massive effect. I'm like you and am fairly slim, healthy bmi. It's not really about us losing weight so much as making sure we remove/ control the foods that contribute to our hormones playing up. Namely all the fun stuff! Like sugar, dairy and white carbs. I've found reducing them has made a massive difference. I've been following #pcosawareness on Instagram and there's so many amazing ladies on there sharing information about pcos each day. I'd definitely recommend having a look! Some great accounts are pcossupportgirl and nourishedhealth. Lots of great ones :)

@Croselle glad your tubes were clear for you, that's a relief!
Sorry about the cyst and clomid situation :( that really sucks. And worries me as we've just this week found out dh has a slight abnormality with his sperm :/ they've referred us to the fertility clinic though finally, so that'll be another long wait! Just try to stay positive, it's not impossible, you'll get there xx
Out of curiosity, what supplements have they recommended for your oh? Mines count and everything is ok, it's just the shape that's slightly off and higher than the norm.

Does anyone on here really find ovulation painful? I'm worried it's because of cysts, as I think I get them and they burst every few months.

Croselle · 11/11/2020 08:44

@Newbie0818 it's the same with my OH it's to do with the morphology apparently but my consultant told him to get Proxeed Plus which you can get on Amazon. We'll keep trying but it's hard at the moment. I am struggling to keep my stress down because of work and all of this so I worry that's having a negative impact too. I had been having more regular periods for the past 6 months but my recent one was late and all over the place and I got a lot of pelvic pain where my cyst is so had a hospital trip but still waiting on a date for surgery.

Glad you've been referred to the fertility clinic! That's a positive step.

I never know if I ovulate I don't think I tend to feel it but I get a lot of pelvic pain generally.

I've been trying to cut out the bad stuff for food too. There's a pcos 30 day challenge I found that starts Friday with a community on Facebook but also a book I've just read called the balance plan which is helpful in understanding hormones and how to reset them for pcos.

Kg87 · 11/11/2020 08:54

@Newbie0818 thanks for getting back to me! That’s really interesting, so even if we are not classed as overweight we would still have to limit sugar, carbs etc just to keep our hormones balanced? I actually got my BFP last weekend which was a total shock but I know with PCOS there are higher risks so I’m trying to make sure I eat really healthy at the moment although I can’t resist a chocolate bar and sweets! 🙈😂

Croselle · 11/11/2020 10:39

@Kg87 That's exciting, congrats!! It's so nice to hear other women with PCOS announce their BFP, I hope to get one soon!

Did you do or use or take anything that you feel has helped?

Kg87 · 11/11/2020 11:54

@Croselle thank you! Yes I’m so pleased as I thought it was going to be a long journey once I received my diagnosis but it was within the same month!

I didn’t have any medication to assist but I was actually due to start Letrozole on Day 1 of my next cycle but it never came!

I did have cycle monitoring though so the doctor could pinpoint when I was due to ovulate so we timed DTD around that which I really think helped as I always found it hard to get a bold LH surge on the OPKs. After I ‘ovulated’ I had the progesterone blood test and it came back really low so we didn’t think I had actually ovulated.. turns out I did! I’m on cyclogest (progesterone pessaries) now to keep my progesterone levels up and I have my early scan next Friday so fingers crossed it sticks!

Croselle · 11/11/2020 11:59

@Kg87 wow that's such a brilliant story, well I wish you all the best, keep updating us, it's giving us hope :)

I just need to get this pesky cyst removed so I can move on to Clomid and getting more insight into when/if I am ovulating. At the moment in the meantime, we're just trying to DTD regularly and be healthier!

Kg87 · 11/11/2020 12:28

@Croselle thank you! I’ve relied on these forums for months now so I will definitely keep you all updated!

My friend has a cyst that she’s due to have removed but the waiting list has been quite long due to COVID, have you got a date booked for yours?

Newbie0818 · 11/11/2020 18:45

@Croselle oh we're so similar! I'll have a look at that supplement but will wait and see what the doc says :) it's just so frustrating isn't it? You just feel like no matter what you do it won't happen... feels like our bodies are sabotaging us. I hope your date comes soon, cysts are awful :( I say that, I'm not actually certain I have them although on previous scans they've shown up, and every few months I get a really awful cramp that I genuinely think might be my appendix, but I assume now that it's a cyst bursting.

@Kg87 yep, food plays a major role like that! And omg congrats! You're giving me hope! How long were you into your cycle when you ovulated?
How have you been feeling? I know it must be worrying x

I think I may have ovulated around 5days ago but neither of my apps are picking it up :/ My temps have definitely shifted but not as high as usual, so I worry an egg wasn't released :(

Kiwi93 · 11/11/2020 19:12

Hi everyone :)

Just thought I would give a wee update as this thread was really helpful when I thought I had PCOS, well I was diagnosed with PCOS through bloods and scan, doctor has now referred me to gynea.

Started taking myo-insotel 3 months ago and I went low carb last month, I got my first period in nearly 2 years last week, was horrendous but I am hoping things are maybe coming together now!

Hope everyone is well :)

Newbie0818 · 11/11/2020 19:18

@Kiwi93 glad to hear af came for you! Wow 2 years, that's ages! And glad you've finally got a diagnosis now, it's nice to know there's a genuine reason there. I've been taking inositol too, but this last month took a break as I wanted to see if it was actually making a difference.
Hope you get the help you need :)

Kg87 · 12/11/2020 09:01

@Newbie0818 thank you! Yeah I’m worried as I know the odds are almost always against us with PCOS so hoping it sticks 🤞🏼 I ovulated on CD22 which I didn’t think was that late tbh, I’ve read lots of women ovulate at that time or later and still manage to conceive but the fertility doctor wasn’t impressed so prescribed me the Letrozole. I only ever got 2 nearly positives OPKs during the whole time we were trying which was about 7/8 months in the end, so I really think the cycle monitoring helped us as the first month that we saw the egg getting bigger and evidence on the scan that the egg had left the ovary we timed DTD around all of that and conceived, are you able to see if you could get that too?

I keep testing to make sure the line is getting darker and it is so I’m happy about that but not sure when I should start being excited lol

Newbie0818 · 12/11/2020 17:53

@Kg87 I doubt it with the nhs 😂 but we've just got our fertility referral so that'll be a long wait yet. I temp and track my cm, which have been pretty accurate so far so we always time DTD around then too. I'm 5dpo apparently.
Hope it works out well for you 🤞🏼🌟

Kg87 · 12/11/2020 18:14

@Newbie0818 oh no my cycle monitoring was through the NHS too! My GP referred me to fertility during the summer, I had a video call within the month with the fertility dr and I got a letter straight away saying they’d start cycle monitoring, I had to call on the first day of AF and they’d see if they could fit me in, she said it could take 2/3 months to get a spot, I called the first month and they had no space and the receptionist said I would automatically go on the next month. I think it’s the initial referral that takes the time with the NHS so fingers crossed you get seen soon!

Newbie0818 · 12/11/2020 20:46

@Kg87 that's reassuring, I hope that happens x

Newbie0818 · 05/12/2020 08:07

Hi everyone, how are you all doing?

I just wandered if anyone has gone through the nhs with fertility referral on here? I have my initial consultation next week and I just wandered what I can expect from here on in terms of tests/ treatment processes.

Just some background, I'm 27 with pcos, dh is 29 and has sperm morphology issues. We've been ttc for 16 months now with not even a hint of a bfp. My periods are every 35-40 days typically, longest cycle has been 60 days thankfully as I know others are way longer.

Croselle · 09/12/2020 00:07

@Newbie0818 @Kg87 sorry! I didn't get any notifications!

@Newbie0818 is it so hard!

So I got a surgery date for this Saturday, had my pre-admission Monday and have been late for period, decided to take a tests and got these results on two. Right before my surgery?! I'm so dubious though I can't believe it. I'm worried it's a chemical pregnancy or the cyst causing hcg levels or something! I swear since taking the tests I now have cramps and pains!

Going to call hospital tomorrow to mention it! I'm shell shocked right now. I genuinely feel its too good to be true!.

Kg87 · 09/12/2020 08:13

@Croselle wow congratulations they look like very strong positives! It’s funny how these things seem to happen when you least expect it. Mine was a similar situation, I was due to start Letrozole when AF came but it never arrived and now I’m 8+3! Definitely speak with the hospital and I’m sure they’ll do some blood tests or something to check the levels are increasing, such lovely news for you!

Croselle · 09/12/2020 08:30

@Kg87 thank you! It feels too good to be true and now on to that worry of something going wrong! But yeah life is so funny!

Croselle · 09/12/2020 09:28

@Kg87 can I ask, did you notice or feel any period like cramps or aches after your positive test? I don't know if it's pregnancy-related, ghost pains or if suddenly my period is going to come but I'm worrying as I am getting quite a bit of aching and cramps in lower abdomen and back :/

Kg87 · 09/12/2020 09:32

@Croselle yes I had that constantly for about 2 weeks! I’ve never really had period cramps before and as soon as I got the positive result I had what I assume period cramps feel like for about 2 weeks, apparently it’s just your womb stretching to make room which makes sense I suppose! Apparently it doubles in size within a couple of weeks!

Croselle · 09/12/2020 10:00

@Kg87 okay that's reassuring to hear, I think I might end up taking another test today haha I just can't believe my eyes!

I really hope it all goes okay, this would just make my year!

Kg87 · 09/12/2020 10:03

@Croselle yes I tested every day for about a week to make sure the lines were getting darker lol, the worrying hasn’t stopped yet though, I’ve booked a private scan for tomorrow evening as my 12 week scan isn’t until 30th Dec. I have already seen the heartbeat twice as I was getting weekly scans with the fertility department but I couldn’t wait another month to see it again so we’re going private tomorrow lol

Croselle · 09/12/2020 10:32

@kg87 oh that's so lovely, I can't wait to hear the heartbeat. It all feels so surreal. I tried one of those digital ones just now but it malfunctioned! So have some more coming haha!

I just want to know it's viable and healthy.

All the luck and love to you, let's keep in touch on here. Would love to know how the scan goes!

Kg87 · 09/12/2020 11:15

@Croselle ahh thank you! I hope everything goes well for you too and yes we should defo keep in touch!!

Croselle · 09/12/2020 14:58

@Kg87 what did your cramps feel like? I'm getting so worried about the little sharp pains in getting in my right Lower abdomen, they're every so often or generally a bit duller ache in Lower back and abdomen.
