Anyone else awaiting fertility referral?

Hi all,

Been ttc (unsuccessfully!) for over a year and just found out there's a problem with DH sperm (low mobility and zero normal forms), so awaiting referral to fertility clinic to seek further help/advice.

Just wondered if there's anyone else in a similar situation about to embark on this journey too?

Also similar success stories welcome :) x

It's always good to go somewhere for a vent. I'm sure your husband didn't mean what he said and he'll be feeling terrible about saying it to say. He will be feeling bad for himself too.

We had 2 cycles of IUI to have my daughter.

Does anyone hate going to the bathroom when expecting AF? I feel as if each time its like a sigh of relief when it is not there and then dreams shattered again when it does show.x

Limeflower2 · 11/05/2020 12:12

Hi @Morpho123 Sorry to hear about the convo with your hubby. Its so difficult as men don't ever want to think there is anything wrong with them.
My hubby had one SA done and result was normal. He was taking supplement which I gave him 6 weeks before the test. Since everything seems normal for him he has stopped taking the supplement!I gave up my coffee TTC. He is now drinking more coffees, what can I do?
I'm just hoping my IUI will happen soon!

@Chochaw At my last cycle I go to the toilet each time hoping I'm not seeing blood. 😁

willithappen · 11/05/2020 12:22

I think arguing during this time is quite normal, it's stressful for everyone and think about all of the other stresses we all have going on in our lives right now on top of this too :(
It's still not nice to deal with though, but don't think it's only you.

My partner said something similar also. We knew he had low morphology and then the doctor said that wasn't an issue and then going through my history told us at the appointment it was likely my tubes were blocked. Partner then thought it meant the issue was with me (I think he felt relieved to be honest). I did the HyCoSy and all good my side so they have put us as 'unexplained' even though I think the morphology must have something to do with it. I don't want to push it loads because I don't want to make it like I'm saying the issue is my partners SA but what can you do. He's taking wellman conception tablets for men and we've both been taking for a couple months now so hoping that has an affect.

To be honest, I'm giving up trying this month. Going to have our appointment Monday and then if they put us on waiting list from there I'm just going to stop trying all together and give up to the fact that IVF will be our only option.

Chochaw · 12/05/2020 10:56

I'm definitely out. AF arrived so wine for me tonight! X

Etonmess20 · 12/05/2020 11:34

@Chochaw sorry to hear that, hope you can at least enjoy your wine

Limeflower2 · 12/05/2020 12:33

@Chochaw, I'm sorry to hear that. Hope the next cycle will be the one!x

Morpho123 · 12/05/2020 12:52

@Chochaw sorry to hear that 😔

Iv had my consultation, well firstly it was a struggle to get blood from me. Then I had my internal scan and passed out 😂 I’m so rubbish at internals they make me sick. But he said my lining looks good but there was a dark spot which he wasn’t sure if that was a very early pregnancy. However, I did a test today and it was negative so I don’t think I am. But he didn’t seem too sure.
Anyway, my right ovary is a huge cyst but my left is like a super ovary apparently.

We get all our results Thursday and confirm how to proceed! 🤞🏽 Xx

Etonmess20 · 12/05/2020 12:57

@Morpho123 that all sounds very positive & not long to wait until Thursday to get an action plan, super pleased for you x

Etonmess20 · 12/05/2020 14:42

I've received my appointment for HyCoSy on 1st June, this should be CD15 (as per my Ovia app) so even if this cycle isn't my lucky cycle I kind of feel hopeful that the scan may have some answers! Although obvs would be lovely to get a BFP before & have to cancel!!

Morpho123 · 12/05/2020 15:25

@Etonmess20 great news you have your appointment! Fingers crossed it works for you and helps clear them out. Xx

Etonmess20 · 12/05/2020 15:31

@Morpho123 thank you, I am hoping so. Beginning to get a little concerned we have never even had 1 BFP in 18 months so hopefully this can either identify an issue or out my mind at ease x

Limeflower2 · 12/05/2020 17:21

Hey ladies, I joined a zoom meeting with my clinic earlier. They are still waiting from HFEA for the green light. So I asked if IUI on the priority list for treatment, the consultant said they are treating IVF as a priority first. IUI will have to wait till July. I was so devastated when I heard that.
I'm considering changing to another private clinic, but at the same time considering new patients will be at the bottom of the list. Hubby and I are now thinking should we just go with IVF instead of IUI.

Chochaw · 12/05/2020 19:04

@Morpho123 I had a little laugh reading your post there 🤣. Internals. Did you see the scan or were you out when it happened? Maybe bloods will show pregnancy on Thursday 🤞. Cysts are really common with takimg stimulants like clomid. Are you planning on using it next month if AF arrives? Or going to wait and see what they suggest on Thursday? Did your husband have a SA?

Statistically @morpho123 or @Etonmess20 one of you is due a BFP this month as I am out now.

@Limeflower2 how many cycles of IUI were you willing to try before going for IVF? Does your clinic offer a money back option if not successful with IVF?

I have a webinair with new private clinic on Thursday. IUI was successful last time for me but if I'm paying this time am I better to do IVF?x

Etonmess20 · 12/05/2020 19:14

@Chochaw I hope the statistics are right!! 😂

What would the difference be price wise between IUI & IVF? Suppose it's a case of weighing that up against the % of success

Saski87 · 12/05/2020 19:20

Hi, I was wondering if it’d be ok to join? I’ve been lurking for a while because it seems like some of you are at a similar point to me in all this. My partner and I have been ttc for 2 and a half years (1 year of not preventing and the rest using opks etc etc). Was referred to fertility clinic last summer, ended up having a laparoscopy where they found mild endometriosis but nothing they thought should be preventing us from conceiving. I also have underactive thyroid but that’s under control now. We were given 6 months to try naturally and I was quite hopeful but our follow up appointment is in a few weeks now so we haven’t been lucky (period due in 5ish days). Im not sure what’s net but guess it’ll be ivf. Am feeling quite alone in it all at the moment and it’d be great to be able to share with people who are going through similar experiences (although I’m obviously really sorry you guys have found yourselves in this situation)

Chochaw · 12/05/2020 19:42

@Etonmess20

Roughly £2000for IUI and £6500 for IVF. We had 2/x rounds of IUI last time. TBH I am really reluctant when I know we have funding for at least 2 rounds of IUI on NHS waiting.
Does anyone know if we can ask to be moved to another clinic that is open?

Hi @Saski87, welcome to the group. Is your appointment still going ahead? Private or NHS?x

Etonmess20 · 12/05/2020 19:44

@Chochaw would you lose your entitlement to the NHS IUI if you went private now?

@Saski87 welcome!! X

Saski87 · 12/05/2020 19:49

Thanks so much @Chochaw and @Etonmess20 ! My appointment is with nhs and we haven’t heard anything in terms of whether it’s cancelled or not. Hoping no news is good news!

Chochaw · 12/05/2020 20:02

@etonmess20
Fertility nurse said no when I asked her a few weeks ago. She said if we didn't tell her about private treatment she wouldn't know so don't mention it when NHS opens up.x

Morpho123 · 12/05/2020 20:56

@chochaw he talked me through the entire scan, which was brilliant, but when he went to the ovaries my brain went wild and I passed out. Funny thing is it doesn’t hurt, it’s all in my head- but I can’t relax! 😂 I don’t think I will be pregnant Iv still got spotting, but less than normal- but I know it’s negative, he said it looked like my lining had thicken a lot for implantation, but I think it maybe didn’t embed or something. Gutted really but it is what it is! Maybe next month...
I’m waiting to see results Thursday (af due Thursday too) and then we will decide weather to do another month of clomid.
My husband did have another SA, so hopefully that’s improved too!

If iui worked last time is it worth trying again, it’s a lot cheaper too! I guess if it’s nhs you could be waiting a while.... tough decision!

Welcome @Saski87 sorry to hear your struggles too. Hopefully you still get your appointment, the fact is hasn’t been cancelled sounds like good news!

@Etonmess20 I’m also hanging on these statistics 😂

Xxxx

Chochaw · 12/05/2020 21:07

@morpho123. I'm keeping finger crossed for you and Etonmess.

I'll see what is said at the webinair on Thursday and hopefully I can ask some questions. I started researching treatment abroad again there. My friend had IVF in Cyrus and recommends it so much more than UK. Prague has always had a much higher success rate and we looked into it before. They are open for business again and so much cheaper. £2200 for IVF and £400/for IUI. Its more difficult this time because we have my daughter so we can't both just hop on a plane when we want to and I wouldn't want my daughter to travel just now. I would take the chance with husband and me but not daughter.
I wonder if I could freeze husbands sperm and take it with me so he could stay home with Daughter 🤣.

Etonmess20 · 12/05/2020 21:57

@Chochaw I'd be tempted to try it then perhaps, if you can afford it why not?!

Let's hope you're good with these predictions, me & @Morpho123 are pinning all our hopes on this 😂😂😂

@Saski87 does sound like good news your appointment hasn't been cancelled, fingers crossed for you 🤞🏻

Limeflower2 · 12/05/2020 23:23

@Morpho123 Sorry I missed your post about your internal scan. I think our minds over think in situation, it's difficult to relax. I had to help out with mine, push my belly so they can see the ovaries.😂😂 All the best on Thursday.

@Chochaw It was our consultant's idea to try one round of IUI first. I was planning to go with IVF at the beginning. Now with this situation I am rethinking about IVF.

I'm enquiring with Create via email. But they reply saying i need to book a consultation. I basically want to know if I registered as a new patient how long do I have to wait to get treatment. Plus all the others tests and scans I did, would they accept that? On Lister price list, they stated they would possibly accept scan and tests results within the past 3 months. So I will contact them too.

@Saski87 Welcome to the group!

Chochaw · 13/05/2020 10:47

Ladies, I need some advice. I though AF started yesterday. I had some spotting in afternoon and nothing since. Normally AF come on for me medium flow day 1, heavy days 2and 3 then light. If I take clomid I'm supposed to start CD2. Do I count yesterday as CD1?x

Etonmess20 · 13/05/2020 11:29

@Chochaw if it was just spotting & nothing else I probably wouldn't count that as CD1 tbh x
