Anyone else awaiting fertility referral?

Hi all,

Been ttc (unsuccessfully!) for over a year and just found out there's a problem with DH sperm (low mobility and zero normal forms), so awaiting referral to fertility clinic to seek further help/advice.

Just wondered if there's anyone else in a similar situation about to embark on this journey too?

Also similar success stories welcome :) x

@Morpho123 I was just as gutted when my ultrasound was cancelled and I'm not as far along the process as you are. I think in our heads we all know it's what the NHS can do right now but it hurts like hell. It's great that you are on a rota. Have a good 2 days. Stay safe everyone.

Morpho123 · 23/03/2020 20:14

@Cat028 I agree no matter where we are in our journey, when it gets put on stop/cancelled it is hard to accept. Because we all want to get to our end goal, so any delay hurts. Let’s hope it clears up ASAP and we can all carry on with treatment. Wishing you girls a healthy next few months! Keep us up to date! I guess it allows for a few more trying natural cycles xxx

Cat028 · 24/03/2020 12:06

@Morpho123 absolutely. I think that's the best way we can look at it at the moment. Stay safe everyone.

Chochaw · 27/03/2020 06:28

Hey ladies, how are we all doing?
I'm struggling with working from home with my DD. It is a lot harder than teaching in the classroom. Normally DD goes to her Granny when I am working but can't do that just now. I think my boss still expects me to to be available 8-5.

Where are you in your cycles? I'm on CD15 due to ovulate in 3 days.

Did anyone see the reporter ask Nicola Sturgeon if people should avoid getting pregnant just now during yesterday's briefing?

Hope everyone is ok.x

Cat028 · 27/03/2020 10:52

@Chochaw I can't imagine how hard it is to try and work while looking after your DD. I think your boss needs to try and be understanding of the situation. Everyone is doing what they can. I am finding it lonely with my DH still having to work everyday. Trying to stay connected to family as best we can.

I am on CD 24 and due on Tues. I have just had a HSG and the nurse suggested this could be our best natural shot so I've totally got my hopes up now. Trying hard not to think about it though but it's tough.

No! What did she say?

Morpho123 · 27/03/2020 12:22

hi girls
I really feel for people working at work with children, it must be so hard to juggle and keep them entertained!
unfortunately sounds like ill be put on furlough pay, I find out today. I can work from home but the work has dried up since everyones closed etc.
slightly upsetting because all the money iv saved was for our IVF. which I know ill get it back up, but its just disheartening isn't it. my husband keeps telling me not to worry, we will still have ivf as soon as we can. iv got 3x clomid cycles first, but I was due to start that Monday, but obviously the hospital have cancelled follicle scans, so I didn't take it, I didn't want to risk not knowing how my body was reacting.
I just feel down that all our ttc journeys have come to a hault, obviously we can still try naturally but we know the chance is low.

what did she say about getting pregnant now? I didn't hear it either, I have tried to not watch the news so much, its terrifying me!

hope you are all safe and well xxx

Chochaw · 27/03/2020 17:02

@Cat028 hopefully the HSG has given you a good clear path for eggs to travel down. Did you get your results straight away after it?

@morpho123 it is rubbish we are all on hold for now. I would be so tempted to just take the lowest dose of clomid and risk it. 1st time round for me I managed to get a hold of some metaformin which has a the same effect as clomid while I was waiting for investigations to start but it didn't help me. I was just desperate for a baby. My husband is self employed but doesn't fit into any of the categories to get support so he is going to have to go back into work on Monday.

Nicola got all embarrassed and passed over to the chief medical officer who was also mortified and advised against unplanned pregnancies and encouraged people to find something else to do with their time and if they do decide to have sex then to use contraception. The reporter asked of older ladies/people struggling should also avoid and she said no but said that treatment had been suspended. X

Cat028 · 27/03/2020 19:27

@Morpho123 it really is disheartening. I'm sorry to hear that's whata happening for you at the moment. It's a lot to get your head around anyway at the moment without job things and fertility things on your mind too. I wouldn't know where to start with Clomid so I would have held off as well tbh.

@Chochaw not officially, the nurse said she couldn't tell me the results but that there was nothing alarming and this was our best shot (as long as DH swimmers have improved a bit.) That's tough your husband has to go back. Mine is still working as he is a key worker. But thankfully they have at least reduced his days. I cannot wait for this to all be over.

I'm glad that's the advice because I don't know if I have it in me to stop trying now.

Stay safe ladies. Xx

Limeflower2 · 29/03/2020 22:20

Hi ladies, I hope everyone is okay?
It's such a tough time especially for us who is TTC. I'm on CD24, I'm trying to stay positive and hoping miracle will happened soon!
My husband and I are both working from home. It's alright for us. We are lucky we still have a job for now.
I know a lady (not in the U.K) who had her IVF in Feb. She is now nearly 6 weeks pregnant, with a previous record of 5 IVF failures, she is so worry about her baby now as she is experiencing spotting these few days. She rang her private clinic but there is nothing they can do due to coronavirus, the clinic has to stay closed. I feel so sorry for her.
My clinic told me they will give me a call to update me with situation next week. I'm don't have high hope. But fingers crossed the virus will be under controlled soon.
Stay safe and stay positive. Xx

Narwhal88 · 31/03/2020 07:13

Hi all can I join? TTC a year now, DH has had 1 SA and it was really bad all round, very low count, low morphology and low motility. Had our first fertility appt at the hospital over the phone last week. GP had only referred DH so I've had to get him to also do a referral for me as doctor wants to do all the tests on me too, so that appt is now 28th April. Not sure what tests they will actually be able to do at the mo with lockdown though but wanted to get the ball rolling!
I'm still in work full time as I'm NHS but DH is working from home.

Chochaw · 04/04/2020 18:08

Hi @Narwhal88
Welcome to the group. We are normally more chatty on here but I think we are all probably feeling pressure of virus and lockdown.

How is everyone doing?

Just a quick question from me. Has anyone been seen by private fertility clinic during lockdown?I'm wondering if we could possibly have a cycle of IUI or maybe even just the drugs to stimulate privately while we wait for NHS to get back on track. X

Chochaw · 04/04/2020 18:17

I've just done some research into the clinics we had looked at and all new treatments are suspended at the moment to go with the guidance. It's going to be at least 10 weeks because they can't offer treatment when the government are telling pregnant women time stay inside xSad

Limeflower2 · 04/04/2020 20:04

Hi all, hope everyone is well and safe.
@Narwhal88 Hi and welcome to the group!
@Chochaw I actually rang a private clinic yesterday as I was feeling the pressure of getting pregnant this year. They told me they are not accepting new patients but I can have a phone consultation which come with a price tag of £200. No thanks.
I also contacted my hospital and asked them to send me copies of blood and scan results in case I want to look else where soon. xx

Morpho123 · 04/04/2020 22:00

Hi all, I hope you are well. I think I’m with you girls, feeling pretty down about the whole thing. To think we were finally on the road to our first private appointment for it to be cancelled. Iv kind of come to terms that there is nothing I can do.
I’m tempted to start my clomid next cycle but I won’t get follicle tracking like I was meant to. Did anyone else do clomid without the scans? Some people have the scans and some don’t, so I don’t see the harm in just starting them, everything has come back clear for me so far. I have progesterone pessaries too as I’m sure my progesterone is low due to early spotting. What are your thoughts please? It’s the lowest dose of 50mg.

I’ll be going private as soon as they open again! Desperate to start now more than ever! It’s so disheartening isn’t it! Xx

Limeflower2 · 04/04/2020 22:09

Good eveving @Morpho123, I didn't even have my first appointment for IUI. If I did and got the medication, I would definitely start taking them, at least I know my chance would be higher when trying naturally these couple of months.
I'm still taking lots of supplements to prep my body when the clinics opened again.
Let's stay positive ladies! xx

Morpho123 · 04/04/2020 22:23

Iv got clomid for natural conception, I’m not having an iui, still trying naturally but I guess they could up my chances. I was too scared to start them on my last AF but have researched a lot since and since Iv had the all clear on everything it should be fine to go ahead. I’m due to ovulate in a couple of days, so I’ll take them on my next AF. At least it may help my chances now, and if not then straight for ivf when we can!
We still have a morphology issue but his been on supplements for about 4 months now, so fingers crossed there is some improvements!
Keep positive ladies and let’s hope this all blows over ASAP! Xx

Cat028 · 07/04/2020 17:54

@Narwhal88 welcome!

I have been feeling very much the same ladies. Very down about things and not getting further answers or movement is frustrating.

@Morpho123 I think I would be tempted to start too tbh.

Fingers crossed for a miracle for us all! 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Chochaw · 07/04/2020 18:24

@Morpho123 I would definitely go for it next month.x

Narwhal88 · 07/04/2020 19:01

Thanks for the welcome ladies!
It is a very frustrating time for sure.

@Morpho123 I would start on the clomid if I were you as well.

Chochaw · 07/04/2020 19:27

willithappen · 07/04/2020 20:01

Well back to CD1 for me and no date to look forward to for getting on the waiting list. Feels horrendous. Taking this one quite hard

Chochaw · 07/04/2020 20:50

@willithappen I'm sorry to hear that. It's so hard.

I just had a consultation with a pharmacy online and asked for prescription of clomid. I explained my history and they have prescribed it. So fingers crossed it arrived by next week and I can start it next week when AF shows. I have ordered 50mg and I will take for 5 days from CD2. X

Morpho123 · 07/04/2020 21:10

@chochaw so glad I’m not going to be the only one taking it without scans now! Iv just ovulated so due to take clomid in a couple of weeks. Thank you for the link that’s really helpful I feel a bit more confident now!

@willithappen sorry to hear how you are feeling. It’s completely understandable, we all feel like we have no date on future appointments. Keep strong, you will get there. Do whatever you need to, to make you feel positive. I really feel for you xx

I’m only 3dpo but I have really bad nausea, I think it’s the hormone shift around ovulation, I was up in the middle of the night feeling like I was going to throw up. Does anyone else suffer with nausea during this time? My temp today was the highest it’s ever been too and I don’t feel unwell or anything other than nausea! X

Cat028 · 08/04/2020 12:24

@Chochaw that's interesting I didn't know you could get clomid online. How did you look into that?

@Morpho123 I don't suffer particularly with nausea but this month I have felt unusually painful around my AF and the days after. Hopefully your high temp is a good sign.

@willithappen sorry to hear you are feeling like that. Definitely can relate. Hope you look after yourself. Xx

Chochaw · 08/04/2020 14:37

@Cat028

I googled 'buy clomid' and I found the information leaflet that I posted yesterday from a hospital in Manchester and after reading that I thought that clomid sounded like it would be good for me. I was going to try an online appointment with GP and ask them to prescribe it but I found the pharmacy 'Instant eCare' and did the online consultation with them. Gave them my history- unexplained infertility, 2 rounds IUI with Gonal F, 2nd successful, trying for no2, IUI scheduled but cancelled and they prescribed me them. I only ordered a months supply of 50mg to see if I go ok with them and if I get any side effects. It says they are dispatched today so I'll see how it goes. I'm excited to get the ball going again.
