Anyone doing ivf at 40+

We're considering doing a couple more rounds of ivf at 40.5 years old. We have 2 children already but still feel someone is missing.

Is anyone else starting or already having treatment at 40+ and would like to share the journey?

Just popping on quickly to say hello and Unicorn I’m keeping everything crossed for you.

I’m just catching up on everyone’s posts so sorry for lack of personals. It’s been crazy busy at work and just enjoying a bit of a break from work and Ivf before starting fet mid jan. hoping my lining thickens up this time. I will also be on 75mg aspirin which I haven’t done before.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Janefx40 · 28/12/2020 13:55

No doubting that test @Unicorn9 . Congratulations! I know it's scary and a lot can go wrong but really crossing everything that this is your time x

Unicorn9 · 28/12/2020 14:13

I doubt it’s working as I have had lower back pain like cramps since I woke up... so frustrating. I just wish it would work!!

Anxiousbuthopeful · 28/12/2020 14:33

@Unicorn9, I am crossing everything for you.

Unicorn9 · 28/12/2020 14:36

@Janefx40

Hello. We did IVF when I was 41. 2 cycles and got pregnant on second with a single embryo transfer. Our DD is now 11 months old.

We were in London and chose a clinic that had good stats for our age group for our first cycle which we paid for. We then got offered a second on the NHS so went to a different (and pretty awful) clinic who messed everything up and yet we still got pregnant.

Feel so grateful to have had this success but also have quite a few friends of my age who also got pregnant via IVF so it can happen definitely.

Good luck!!!

Hi Jane can I ask what clinic in London you used?
Anxiousbuthopeful · 03/01/2021 08:20

Hello everyone. How is it going? @Unicorn9? I have started stimms again and first scan tomorrow

mouse40 · 03/01/2021 08:40

@Anxiousbuthopeful lots of luck for your fresh cycle. Are you cycling in the UK?

@Unicorn9 been thinking of you. Hope all ok.

I’m waiting to start my FET mid January. I feel very lucky to have had the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine so won’t feel so stressed on the train up and down to london. Over the last year I used to be so anxious I would catch covid on the train and my cycle would be cancelled.

IslandStars · 03/01/2021 09:27

Morning ladies,

I’m waiting to start the last cycle of my package in a couple of weeks too, although no doubt my period will be delayed again! Can’t wait to get this EC done then start on FET.

@Anxiousbuthopeful Good kick with your scan, hope the cycle goes well.

@mouse40 Great news on the vaccine. I’ve been WFH, but did worry about taking the train into London for appointments. I tried to book mine for after 0930 so the commuting rush had died down.

I saw the safety advice on the vaccine has changed now for pregnant women / TTC within 3 months. So now it’s ok if the benefit outweighs the risk? I’m asthmatic, so would be due to have it before most people my age. Still wondering what to do about it.

Anxiousbuthopeful · 03/01/2021 10:54

Hi @mouse40 - cycling in Spain. I am a bit worried as had a poor response last time. Also i have low AMH and I fear my age is catching up with me (42.5) so not sure whether I have much of a chance this cycle. Have had actual nightmares about tomorrow’s scan showing zilch.

Janefx40 · 03/01/2021 14:55

@Anxiousbuthopeful good luck tomorrow at your scan. Hope it shows good things for you.

@mouse40 good news on vaccine and starting in Jan too

@Hameggnchips my first fresh cycle was at ARGC and then my NHS cycle was at Guy's. That post you quoted was over a year old tho. My DD is now nearly 2! We're done an FET since then at ARGC which sadly led to miscarriage. Good luck with your journey x

Anxiousbuthopeful · 04/01/2021 16:48

Hello! So I had scan 1. CD 6 (day 4 of stimms). 3 follicles at 10mm, 1 at 8mm 2 at 6mm and 4 at 5mm. My consultant reckons we will get the biggest 3 and if any of the others grow enough that’s a bonus. I am hoping for a catch up! Any experience?

Janefx40 · 04/01/2021 21:44

@Anxiousbuthopeful well done on your scan. I'm afraid I don't know much about it as was last scanned in 2018 but sounds promising. 🤞🏼 everything keeps developing as hoped x

Unicorn9 · 04/01/2021 22:30

Mouse40, I am ok so far. I have a scan booked for 15th if all goes well. I was diagnosed with high NKc but was recommended to not take prednisolone due to covid and DD going back to school. BUT now schools are closed and DD didn’t go in today I am wondering if I should try the pred as I would take it for 4 weeks and then wean off it for two weeks... any thoughts? I’m worried about catching covid but we would stay home, have online groceries and maybe just go for a walk. Would cancel reflexology and acupuncture just in case...

I live on high covid area atm:-(

Hope you are all well...

Unicorn9 · 04/01/2021 22:46

Anxiousbuthopeful are you doing ivf in Spain?

Anxiousbuthopeful · 05/01/2021 08:38

Hi @Unicorn9 - yes. CRI in Barcelona.

Janefx40 · 05/01/2021 13:50

@Unicorn9 I'll admit I'm a bit of a risk taker but personally I'd take it. My clinic have been prescribing it all through. I appreciate that it is a risk tho so it depends on your health. Also this new strain is bloody hard to avoid - I know quite a few people who be not taken any risks and still got it. I'd heard (probably on this thread so apologies if I'm just repeating what someone else said!) that the reason clinics aren't prescribing it is that they're insurance won't cover it at present. So you may need to check yours can prescribe it anyway xxx

Janefx40 · 05/01/2021 13:50

Apologies for all the typos etc

Janefx40 · 05/01/2021 13:54

Also @Unicorn9 having said all that I've just read the HFEA advice saying taking immunosuppressant makes you extremely vulnerable to Covid!! Sorry - I've not been helpful at all. It's a tough one x

Anxiousbuthopeful · 07/01/2021 17:13

Hello everyone! Back again with a new scan result on the 8th day of stimms. One at 15, one at 12, one at 11 and then 5 between 8 and 9. What do you reckon? Slow growing, I fear...

Unicorn9 · 07/01/2021 17:55

Janefx40 I don’t know what to do. Will have a proper chat to consultant and see what he says. It seems that covid is set to stay and so I may never be able to try steroids unless I risk it....

Anxiousbuthopeful I don’t remember what mine were but keep hoping. Miracles can always happen surely? Good luck!!
