Anyone doing ivf at 40+

We're considering doing a couple more rounds of ivf at 40.5 years old. We have 2 children already but still feel someone is missing.

Is anyone else starting or already having treatment at 40+ and would like to share the journey?

@lucieloos his other results were ok last time we did it. Slightly high morphology but had a good count so they said it didn't matter.

@Sunshinelove8 ARGC recommended the test but they don't do it on site so we had it done elsewhere. They did pick up a problem that was probably sperm related on our first cycle but then our second was elsewhere and after that was an FET anyway so this was their first chance to get it tested. Yes the sperm dna fragmentation can't be detected without a special test.

Not heard back from my clinic yet. DP seems fine. I'm gutted but trying to hide it.

Hope everyone else is doing ok x

Hello everyone. Just wanted to say merry Xmas and lots of luck and baby dust to us all for the new year.

IslandStars · 25/12/2020 10:03

Merry Christmas @Anxiousbuthopeful and all the ladies here, wishing next year is the best for all those who lost out this year and those still trying. Let’s keep going, we can do this! X

Sunshinelove8 · 25/12/2020 21:48

Happy Christmas lovely ladies , couldn’t get through these hard times without you all . Wishing us all success in 2021 xx

Unicorn9 · 25/12/2020 22:52

Merry Christmas and I wish lots of baby dust to all come our way in 2021.
My natural killer cell test came back as high. Prednisolone I think will be the treatment. I understand that prednisolone has been banned by HFEA during covid but do any private clinics prescribe them still? No point gettjng pregnant if I can’t try the treatment...

lucieloos · 25/12/2020 23:54

@Unicorn9 ohhh I'm taking prednisone for pregnancy sickness! I know it lowers the immune system though. I'm on a relatively low dose though and it will be for a shortish time frame.

It’s just I think I may be pregnant but I don’t understand how as I had a second biopsy last Monday so surely that would have messed it up:-( I got this yesterday morning 5 days before my period...

Unicorn9 · 26/12/2020 07:37

Does it look positive?

Janefx40 · 26/12/2020 07:59

Morning @Unicorn9 yup that is definitely positive and strong for 5 days pre period. Congratulations! How do you feel about it? Is your consultant able to support you with a natural pregnant? I think my IVF clinic are still prescribing bred but not certain as I didn't have it myself. Xxx

Merry Christmas etc all xxx

Anxiousbuthopeful · 26/12/2020 07:59

Oh my god YES @Unicorn9 - I can totally see the second line!!!!!!

Unicorn9 · 26/12/2020 08:16

My consultant spoke to me yesterday and told to me to clexane and progesterone. We will talk re prednisone as it was Christmas so couldn’t sort it but he is abroad and the ivf clinic he is affiliated with here, I don’t think offer it. Hope he sorts as worried it will end again cos of nkc and biopsy:-( feel I messed up cos had biopsy...

Janefx40 · 26/12/2020 09:02

@Unicorn9 don't worry about the biopsy - I think that if you have tested positive a week afterwards then it won't have interfered. You are so early on that I think the embryo wouldn't have implanted if that was a problem. Regarding the NKs, it sounds like your consultant is on the case so fingers crossed you get what you need asap.

Hoping this is the beginning of a happy story for you xxx

Unicorn9 · 26/12/2020 09:10

Thank you Janefx40. I hope so. With so many miscarriages before we are wary of hoping too much. Hope you had a good Christmas.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/12/2020 09:05

@IslandStars fab number of eggs

@Unicorn9 I def see a faint line. Maybe get the more costly 2/3w preg not preg tests

Anxiousbuthopeful · 27/12/2020 09:56

Hello everyone. Trying naturally this month before new IVF cycle. Was irrationally hoping for a BFP between cycles but looks like it isn’t happening - negative with easy@home 10DPO is pretty definitive, right?

Unicorn9 · 27/12/2020 10:09

Hi Anxiousbuthopeful I saw the reviews for the easy@home pregnancy tests as was going to get some but they weren’t very good. They said they were fine for after a missed period but not before...

Unicorn9 · 27/12/2020 10:14

Blondeshavemorefun That one was a first response early one but I didn’t do it with FMU and also was 4/5 days before my period was due. I took the cheapie strip ones and got these but will test tomorrow with FMU To make sure.

@Unicorn9 best of luck for tomorrow. Let us know how you get on

@Anxiousbuthopeful I'm in the same position only now I'm 12dpo and still BFN. No surprises of course as we have never conceived naturally and we've just found out DP is basically infertile! But you hope anyway don't you!! I think at only 10dpo and an IC you may still have a shot even if I don't!!

Sunshinelove8 · 27/12/2020 13:50

@Unicorn9 wishing you the best of luck , I know myself with multiple mcs that it’s a scary time . I would suggest baby aspirin too . My last pregnancy I had progesterone, clexane , steroids , baby aspirin 75mg although if I get pregnant again they'll do 150mg . I also am on thyroxine even though gp said levels were normal . Make sure you’re taking folic acid ( folate is better ) and I also had my vitamin d and iron tested as low levels can have mc links . 🤞for you ! @Anxiousbuthopeful and @Janefx40 it’s taking all my strength not to ttc naturally . I feel like I could fall pregnant but it’s not worth the risk so have to wait for ivf . Would you wait a cycle b4 ivf ? I am coming up to my first proper period , not sure whether to go ivf this cycle or next x

Anxiousbuthopeful · 27/12/2020 14:31

I know your pain @Janefx40. You do hear about it just happening between cycles... I am starting again on Thursday @Sunshinelove8. Feel like I’d better get my skates on...

Janefx40 · 27/12/2020 14:52

@Sunshinelove8 ARGC usually suggest you start again on your second cycle but I'd just listen to them. If they say you're good to go again now, then I reckon that is fine so it's just whatever you prefer!

Unicorn9 · 27/12/2020 15:24

Sunshinelove8 yes very stressful times but as I can’t go out to Greece atm I feel it’s at least a “distraction” for a little. Haven’t heard from consultant re steroids and panicking a bit because it would be the only thing different I could try & it would give me some hope but hopefully he will contact me tomorrow otherwise I’ll give him a ring on Tuesday. I’m not sure how to get the steroids as I thought ivf clinics wouldn’t give them now for nkc given covid....

Sunshinelove8 · 27/12/2020 16:24

@Unicorn9 I had them in my last pregnancy which was in the height of covid . Are you in London? Argc do pregnancy monitoring and can prescribe such things . They monitored my last natural pregnancy. They give clexane and low dose steroids to everyone , I wasn’t tested for anything first. Progesterone depends on your blood results . Worth giving them a ring and seeing if they can monitor this pregnancy if you’re worried ? It is expensive though just to warn you although I took everything going x

Unicorn9 · 27/12/2020 16:29

I’m not too far from London but would have to take the train in. I’m guessing they will only open on Tuesday so will wait until then. Thank you though, it is reassuring to know I can ask someone....

Sunshinelove8 · 27/12/2020 16:32

@Janefx40 and @Anxiousbuthopeful thanks- I want to get on with it too but in some ways a one month delay might be good - my adeno ( like endo)Flared up and going to see a consultant in a week for tests . Will see what argc say x
