Anyone doing ivf at 40+

We're considering doing a couple more rounds of ivf at 40.5 years old. We have 2 children already but still feel someone is missing.

Is anyone else starting or already having treatment at 40+ and would like to share the journey?

@Sunshinelove8
And the best of luck for you too! I almost feel that even if they are all abnormal... it would just help me navigate this chapter of my life and decide how I’d like the next to be. At leat with this TWW I can have a drink ;-)

Sunshinelove8 · 26/11/2020 12:03

@Betty135 I agree , it gives you direction . If I don’t get blasts or pgs normal after another couple of tries I’ll probably look at donor route . It means my eggs are duff .
I don’t drink these days ( used to drink like a 🐟) but I’ve treated myself to lots of cake and bread and naughty things . Enjoy the wine x

Janefx40 · 26/11/2020 12:58

@Sunshinelove8 my DD would have been a Day 6 blast (we transferred on Day 5 when she was still at Day 4 stage) so yes they can definitely catch up and be fine.

Good luck for the call this afternoon and tomorrow

@Anxiousbuthopeful congrats on getting your blastocyst.

@dragonfly1978 hope you are ok today. The waiting is so hard. I find it is the hope that almost breaks me - I can cope with the disappointments when they come, but waiting and hoping is agonising

Xxx

Sunshinelove8 · 26/11/2020 16:44

Hi all , so two are good and got biopsied today for pgs , the other two are still slow moving so not sure will have anything tomorrow as they didn’t advance much from this morning . I would probably be pleased if the likelihood of a pgs normal was higher :/ and that comes with lots of blasts to test x

Anxiousbuthopeful · 26/11/2020 18:06

Two is awesome! And the others might yet make it...@Sunshinelove8

dragonfly1978 · 27/11/2020 10:05

How is everyone?

well it's OTD for me and I am now even more unsure. 13dp5dt, used the official test they gave me and not even the control line came up in the time frame. Left it and now showing faint positive but don't think it has worked properly. Have rung clinic a few times and no answer so waiting for them to call me back. I think I'm out but what are the odds of the stupid official test not working properly!!!!

@dragonfly1978 that test is definitely broken. Have you had your hcg tested ? Sorry it’s so stressful.
I just found out my two six dayers didn’t make it and feeling a bit hopeless with just two gone to pgs . So tired of all this!
@lucieloos did you have a scan today or nipt? I hope all went ok x

lucieloos · 27/11/2020 15:33

@dragonfly1978 yes I agree the test is broken. Can you pick up a frer or digi?

@Sunshinelove8 yes I had scan and bloods for nipt today, thanks for remembering! Scan went really well and baby was quite active waving arms around. Measuring 3 days ahead. An agonising 2 week wait for nipt results now though. We have also decided to find out the gender.

@lucieloos - such wonderful wonderful news!

Janefx40 · 27/11/2020 15:59

@lucieloos congrats on the scan. That is wonderful news. I got so nervous waiting for my NIPT results last time - I totally lost it!! Hopefully you will cope better than me.

@Sunshinelove8 sorry about the two other embies. You have two, so let's just hope they're good ones.

@dragonfly1978 so frustrating to have a broken test when you're already in such a tough situation. It takes so much courage to pee on that stick. Are you planning to do another test or ask for a blood test?

I've been told to take DHEA but it's been hard to get. Finally got hold of some a week later. They said to take 6 weeks to prepare my body and get DPs Sperm fragmentation done but it's all taking so long that I wonder if we'll be able to start in January after all.

Xxx

Sunshinelove8 · 27/11/2020 16:08

@lucieloos massive congratulations! That’s great news
@Janefx40 thanks , have they tested your dheas and testosterone before you take dhea? I overdosed on it and it affected my progesterone levels x

Yah. Glad all went well at scan

Makes me Laugh how they get it wrong

Dd was always 5/6days diff

I told them I knew when was as ivf

Tho the form at Midwife was funny

Asked for when date of conception was. I said Dec 28 2016

It was then August 2016

There isn’t e fet box to tick

Anxiousbuthopeful · 27/11/2020 16:43

@dragonfly1978 - I am so sorry this is so stressful. I am thinking of you.

Janefx40 · 27/11/2020 22:44

@Sunshinelove8 yes I was tested and my levels were right at the bottom of the range. They'll test me again in a few weeks to see how it's changed but I'm unlikely to have too much since they are so low now.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Hiya
I hope it’s ok to join this board. I am nearly 42. I had 5 miscarriages in 18 months varying from 6weeks to 10weeks. In the end we decided to try ivf abroad with pgt testing. We got 11 eggs, 7 were mature enough to fertilise and had 3 day 5/6 blastocysts. They surprisingly all came back normal. But we transferred one and it failed. It didn’t implant at all. We will try another transfer but is there any hope of it working? Has anyone had anything similar? I worry that it’s something in me making it not take. I am now getting tested for natural killer cells in Coventry and waiting results before the next ivf round... any hope would help. I spend my days being wished away for January to come round so I can go abroad for the next round but finding it hard to hope that it would work given my history of miscarriages ....

Unicorn9 · 03/12/2020 11:09

Sunshinelove8, I never thought any of mine (3) would come back normal and I kept hoping for one but the wait was agonising. Every weekend that passed felt like an eternity and every day id wait for the call and in the end they all were normal. I hope that gives you some hope. I’m sorry it’s so hard.

Anxiousbuthopeful · 03/12/2020 12:07

Hi @Unicorn9 - welcome. I am sorry for your terrible year. But 3 normal embryos is amazing! I hope it works out for you.

mouse40 · 03/12/2020 13:55

Hi there,

Hope it’s ok to join this thread I’m just turning 40 this month so would nice to share this pretty lonely journey with peeps in the same boat.

A bit about me. One daughter easily conceived natural age 36. Tried naturally for 1 year age 38-39 and then went to GP and found I had low AMH & high FSH.

Age 39-40 have done 6 fresh rounds of ivf resulting in 4 embryos (many got cancelled due to poor response). Just had my one and only fet cancelled as lining wasn’t thickening. Had a hysteroscopy which was clear and will start meds for fet for out d6 blast in jan.

I’m also considering whether to pgs any further fresh cycles as having had 3 embryos transferred im wondering if I can keep doing it with the heart ache or them never sticking. So it’s been helpful to read your posts about pgs.

Anxiousbuthopeful · 03/12/2020 14:22

Hi all - advice pls! Just got results back from a hysteroscopy which shows chronic endometritis. Could this have something to do with the miscarriages? Or would it just have affected implantation (which doesn’t seem to have been a particular issue for me...)? If so am a bit sore that I wasn’t tested before.

mouse40 · 03/12/2020 15:47

Hi Anxiousbuthopeful, I think yes it can, but hopefully your consultant will make sure they go through what the results mean?

Anxiousbuthopeful · 03/12/2020 16:29

Hi @mouse40, thanks for that. I just saw your first post, too. 6 IVF cycles sounds like a really tough year. I have done 3 so far, with one miscarriage, one CP and one frozen embryo to show for them.

Sunshinelove8 · 03/12/2020 20:06

@Unicorn9 have you had all the various tests done , antiphospholipids , thrombophilia, proteins , vitamin d etc things that can cause miscarriage. I had all those first . I had blood nk cells too they were slightly elevated . I’ve not had uterine night cells tested though . I’ve always assumed my miscarriages were chromosome related as they get to 8 weeks. Did you have any tested ? I understand that just because it’s pgs normal it doesn’t mean it will implant , better chance but not 100 percent . The embryo can run out of steam as it grows , the grade of the embryo can affect its success even if pgs normal etc .
Can you try things like the scratch etc to improve implantation chances ? I think it’s brilliant that you at least have normals left but I’d also check everything thoroughly and have any recommended additional procedures to guarantee more success .
@mouse40 you’re a strong woman to do 6 , I’ve just done my first ivf and I still feel a bit wiped out two weeks later .
I’m pgs testing to try and identify reasons for miscarriage but there’s approx 2-5 percent chance of the embryo being diagnosed incorrectly, so always got to keep in mind . Also , if abnormal embryos will be discarded . I will still keep doing it as I know I’ll feel less anxious if I got pregnant with pgs normal x

Sunshinelove8 · 03/12/2020 20:09

@Anxiousbuthopeful why was that not picked up Confused !! That surely should have been identified before . I don’t know much about the effect of endo but I have the sister adenomyosis and was told my ivf chances were reduced as can affect implantation/ growth . Although mine is only mild . Can the clinic where you had it done not provide more info on impact on pregnancy? X

Unicorn9 · 03/12/2020 21:08

@mouse40 we seem on the same planned fet in january. My consultant has sent me off for biopsies for natural killer cells and is debating what protocol to use... natural transfer or medicated, nkc or not (awaiting biopsy results), increasing progesterone etc. So much uncertainty and waiting and hard to plan as all abroad. My view on pgt having done it is mixed. It is nice yo know they are euploid but the waiting is gruelling. You know that whilst you wait, it could be the end or the continuation of a cycle and that plays with your head. There are also lots of conflicting advice as to whether or not helps. Personally we did it to find out if ivf going forwards had any hope goven my age and recurrent miscarriages in such a short space of time. Either way ai think it is a personal choice and no right or wrong answers.... good luck.

Unicorn9 · 03/12/2020 21:19

Sunshinelove8 thank you so much for asking. I have done all the tests possible (and DH) with exception of uterine natural killer cells which is what I am doing now and ERA. The biopsies I am having for nkc counts as endometrial scratches. I would have done two biopsies by January if I ovulate on time to go to coventry implantation clinic before christmas. I am hoping they will come back high as an acupuncturist was adamant I had NKC as I have slight hypothyroidism and so many miscarriages in such a short space of time. I had the last miscarriage tested and it was a little girl and genetically normal. It is heart breaking. I find it hard to hope anymore that the last two embryos will work when everyone thought the first one would work, that it would at least implant. I want a natural cycle but it is logistically more difficult as I have to arrange a covid test, flights and accommodation etc before I go as soon as I ovulate so I am not sure that will be feasible. I don’t know how to hope anymore.
My consultant is perfect for me and is trying everything but we can’t pay for another full round of ivf after these two. I just want january to come and for this year to be finished.
How long does it take for your pgt results to come back? Ours took 3.5 weeks.... best of luck. The wait was terrible, i couldn’t sleep towards the end for the worry.
