Infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland

Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are undergoing infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland because it seems as though it can vary from the rest of the UK.

DH and I have been TTC since June 2018. Started investigations around July 2019. I have a large ovarian cyst which will be removed, hopefully after Christmas. Getting a laparoscopy and dye to check tubes too. I have very regular periods and I am ovulating. DH has a low sperm count, but the ones he has are good quality. Still awaiting results from ultrasounds, genetic tests etc so still feel like we're at the beginning of our journey. This is our first time TTC and we've not had a hint of a BFP.

Anyone else?

Do you start at the beginning of your cycle or on day 21? Did they say whether you have down regulation or how long is it going to last for?

Mrsmch123 · 23/01/2020 19:08

they said injection on day 21.

Lily999 · 23/01/2020 19:13

Ok that does sound like a long protocol. Exciting to have things started, you must feel great now!

Mrsmch123 · 23/01/2020 19:22

Yeh defo. I'm now wondering about my smear. It's due the end of March so i think it will be tight timeframe wise🙈might call the drs 2moz and try n get another smear done ASAP. They never mentioned it today just said is it up to date. Which technically it is. But equally I'm thinking I don't want to incase it showed up on the system as "pending results" if that makes sense. Don't even know if they can see that kind of information lol

candycornlover · 24/01/2020 06:19

Good morning ladies! ET today for me at last! Had a brilliant sleep last night, which I didn't think I would. Woke up and had that instant butterflies feeling 😊

I got an appointment through for early March at the royal, hopefully this should be to talk through starting the process! Excited, finally feels like things are moving.

Mrsmch123 · 24/01/2020 13:11

@justbeingelle does it say what appointment it is?are you on the waiting list already?there is nothing better than when things start moving😬

justbeingelle · 24/01/2020 13:42

@Mrsmch123 we were placed on the waiting list for ICSI in December so I'm surprised (but happy!) the appointment has come through. We're still a bit away though because we've been told my husband will need surgical sperm extraction but still it's a step in the right direction 😊

Mrsmch123 · 24/01/2020 15:13

@justbeingelle ohh that's really quick but also very good!

candycornlover · 24/01/2020 16:15

Thank you for all your luck ladies xxx

Transferred one hatching blastocyst. Embryo hatched at 9am this morning and transferred at 11am. Hard work all done now, just need to find some patience to wait it out now and see 🙈

I said to DH afterwards "well you could at least take me for a nice lunch, seeing as I didn't even get a shag at this conception 🤣

willithappen · 24/01/2020 17:55

@candycornlover

Best of luck for you! I have everything crossed on your behalf!

Chochaw · 24/01/2020 21:55

Hello ladies,
I hope you don't mind me being in here. I like that it is a Scottish based thread. We struggled to conceive for 2 and a half years and finally had our little miracle baby last May and currently TTC #2. I became obsessed over having a baby and it was all I could think about. We ended up not needing IVF as IUI worked for us but hope I can join in as we are starting the process again.

So I had cervical cancer when I was 21 so had to have my cervix removed and was told I may struggle to conceive. We started TTC when I was 26 and husband 29. I was aware my mum went through menopause at 31 so hoped things would work. We got pregnant 1st month of trying and thought it was wonderful but had a MC at 7 weeks. Then we tried for 2 more years and no luck. GP referred us to fertility clinic. We waited 6 months to be seen and had lots of tests (bloods, ultrasound, sperm analysis, HSG) and was told unexplained infertility. We were offered 4x cycles of IUI then told we could be referred for IVF if they didn't work. So we were put on waiting list for IUI. We did the stimulated IUI with injections and monitoring. 1st cycle never worked. Then I had to have 2 months off as I overstimulated and had cysts. The next month the fertility nurse cancelled last minute as she booked a holiday and was the only person that could do it. Then 2nd cycle happened and it was successful. We didnt expect it to work as my FIL died in the middle of the cycle and my husbands sperm had dropped from 43million to 13 million. Everything went well and I now have the most amazing daughter. I can't thank the fertility nurse enough. She was great and run the clinic herself for the time I had treatment as the doctor was off sick.

We have been trying again since July last year trying to hop on the hormones from pregnancy but had no luck. My GP referred me again in December and our appointment had come through for 12th February.

I am also a teacher and I found my HT to be all sugar or shi*e. On the surface she acted really supportive and then she told me that she didnt think I could be released for daily scans but HR and union got involved and told her it was classed as antenatal appointments so I used this as my Non Class Contact Time as most of them were 9am so I could be in school for 9.45.

justbeingelle · 25/01/2020 12:54

@Chochaw welcome! That's fab you got your DD. Rubbish about your HT but good about HR being involved. Useful information to know re it being classed as an antenatal apt. Best of luck!

@candycornlover that's fantastic, best of luck! Keeping everything crossed for you!

I've heard that the royal do a smoking test, does anyone know what this involves? I'm panicking a bit because just before my appointment I'm going on a group holiday and 2 of the 4 are heavy smokers. Surely they'll be able to tell if it's secondhand smoke?

OP posts:
Mrsmch123 · 26/01/2020 09:16

@justbeingelle the smoking test you blow into a machine and it picks up the co2. I blew a 4 and my husband a 3. I'm assuming they wont be smoking indoors so I think you should be ok. Also co2 only stays in the body for a
short amount of time so as long as you have a few days between coming back and the appt you will be fine.

justbeingelle · 26/01/2020 12:23

@Mrsmch123 aaah the appointment is the day after we come back. I will (politely) stay away from them when they're smoking then 😊

OP posts:
Mrsmch123 · 26/01/2020 12:30

Lol typical!yeh I'm sure you will be fine.

Vincent2020 · 27/01/2020 01:58

Hi guys 🙂I’m brand new to all this been TTC for 2 years no luck.... my periods are practically none existent and I’m not ovulating, I’ve been referred to fertility clinic and we have first appointment start of feb. Any tips on what to expect ? Thanks x

nextweek · 27/01/2020 09:18

Hi, how's everyone doing?
@Lily999 @candycornlover how are you both getting on?

@justbeingelle that's fab that you've got your appointment through quicker than expected!

Welcome @Chochaw & @Vincent2020
@chochaw that's great that you got your DD from the first time round, fingers crossed you have success again!

@Vincent2020 At my first appointment we went over general health questions with the nurse, then the doctor explained a bit more about the results of the tests we'd had beforehand (via the GP) and then I had an internal scan. We have MFI so they asked my husband to arrange another sperm analysis. We weren't there for very long.

Lily999 · 27/01/2020 11:20

Hiya! We had some good news this morning, I've got still the 14 follicles. 7bigger (between 17-22mm) and 7smaller (between 11-13) they are hoping some of the small ones will catch up, but to be honest the main thing for me was that we got all cleared for EC on Wednesday morning. Got my trigger shot for tonight and we are all set. Lining is very good too 12.3mm they were happy with everything. So we are all on track.
No more injections after this trigger tonight, so it feels like a big phase ends today. Ready for the next one! :)

nextweek · 27/01/2020 12:08

@Lily999 that's fantastic news, glad it's all on track. How are you feeling about EC? Do they sedate you for that?
I really hope someone on here gets a BFP soon, it would be such a boost and would give me hope whilst we wait for our turn!!

Lily999 · 27/01/2020 12:26

Thank you @nextweek I am not too concerned about the sedation as people say that's the best sleep ever so actually looking forward to it, then being pampered by hubby for the rest of the day :)
It means 3day transfer would be Saturday or 5day transfer on Monday. Fingers crossed we will get to ET!

justbeingelle · 27/01/2020 12:29

@Lily999 that's fantastic! Best of luck!
