Infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland

Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are undergoing infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland because it seems as though it can vary from the rest of the UK.

DH and I have been TTC since June 2018. Started investigations around July 2019. I have a large ovarian cyst which will be removed, hopefully after Christmas. Getting a laparoscopy and dye to check tubes too. I have very regular periods and I am ovulating. DH has a low sperm count, but the ones he has are good quality. Still awaiting results from ultrasounds, genetic tests etc so still feel like we're at the beginning of our journey. This is our first time TTC and we've not had a hint of a BFP.

Anyone else?

@nextweek thanks for asking after me 🙂

I'm doing good, had some weird un- AF type stretchy pulling feeling in womb on second night after FET, today boobs quite tingly.
I'm really trying to keep busy with other things, but my god it's hard!

Hope everyone else has a good week ahead and lots of good news to come xx

Vincent2020 · 28/01/2020 00:10

Thanks very much for reply ...💞

nextweek · 28/01/2020 08:34

@Vincent2020 Which clinic are you being referred to? Have you had some tests already at your GPs? I know it can feel a bit overwhelming but at least the process is starting and you'll know more after your appointment

candycornlover · 28/01/2020 12:30

Eeeeeeeeeeekkkkk, I couldn't help myself any longer, I'm 4dp5dt and I got the faintest faintly line this morning on a FRER test🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Going to do it again in morning, I told myself don't be upset if nothing there as it's way to early. But I am home alone today and I just couldn't help myself after binging on YouTube live pregnancy testing videos 🤣🤣

willithappen · 28/01/2020 15:49

Oh @candycornlover that's such great news!! I have everything crossed for you that it's a sticky one.
I'm so so pleased for you!!

nextweek · 28/01/2020 19:22

@candycornlover that's brilliant, fingers crossed it all goes well, looking positive (excuse the pun!) so far!

Vincent2020 · 28/01/2020 22:45

Well I’ve only had blood test at my GP and an ultrasound.... it’s at monklands hospital ? fertility clinic 🤷🏻‍♀️ Praying it starts to make more sense and I get some news cos at this point all I know is that I’m not ovulating 😰 x x

nextweek · 29/01/2020 10:41

@Vincent2020 Our clinic were really good at explaining our test results in more details and what the next steps would be. I wrote down a bunch of questions to take with me, they answered most of them whilst talking us through everything, but at least I had them to hand so I didn't forget anything, maybe doing that would be helpful for you? Sorry I don't have any experience to share on the not ovulating front as our issues are male factor, but hopefully you're appointment will help you.

justbeingelle · 29/01/2020 15:06

@candycornlover fantastic! Congratulations!

@Vincent2020 you'll probably get more blood tests and your partner will have some blood tests and will provide a sperm sample then you'll be seen by the doctor who can then talk to you about your options. At least that's how it went with us.

Hello all. This thread dropped off my active list and so I missed it and assumed it was all quiet. I'll need to catch up!

Had a scan today (gp had referred for a pelvic scan at same time as infertility clinic ref) and just came up same as what clinic saw ie small fibroid. She said she saw some follicles coming up so body seems to be doing something which makes me hopefully we can try egg retrieval - need to wait and see what the royal says. (I have premature ovarian insufficiency so good to know body is trying to do something!)

I'll catch up on all posts above!

justbeingelle · 29/01/2020 21:53

@MelAndShoe that's good news, fingers crossed! Is your royal apt far away? Hopefully you'll get some answers.

@MelAndShoe Hi, that's good to hear, sounds promising! Hope you don't have to wait too long for your appointment at the royal.

I feel a bit like I'm in limbo at the moment, we're waiting for an appointment to start the IVF process but that wont be until mid year and no other tests or appointments expected before then. My AF is due again so feeling a bit 'meh' about it all at the moment.

Lily999 · 30/01/2020 10:29

Hiya! Yesterday went well, we got 10eggs that was to be expected on the mild protocol. We are waiting for the phone call to find out how many of them fertilised, this wait is awful. I keep thinking there will be 0, mt mind is going crazy.

Lily999 · 30/01/2020 10:44

So, got the call, not great news, but not the worst either, we got 4 embryos. They will call us on Friday to let us know how they are doing, transfer is booked for Monday. Just have to hope one of them will make it.

JenniferRo28 · 30/01/2020 10:56

@Lily999 keep the faith, one of them will make it. I have everything crossed for you.

Lily999 · 30/01/2020 11:00

Thank you @jenniferro28 I know people keep saying this, but it's true, this is a very difficult and stressful process. I was hoping to get something like 6-7 as the numbers drop like crazy and 4is not a lot to start with, but there is nothing we can do now.

JenniferRo28 · 30/01/2020 11:51

@Lily999 Im a couple of months away from this stage so i can only imagine how you are feeling right now, god knows what state i will have myself in by then.

Your right, at this stage you have done everything you can so just try to stay positive and remember, you only need the 1 :)

nextweek · 30/01/2020 13:25

@Lily999 The wait must be agonising! I'm keeping absolutely everything crossed for you, good luck x

justbeingelle · 30/01/2020 20:44

@Lily999 I can't imagine how difficult the wait must be but I'm keeping everything crossed for you!

Argh it's been a rough day. Met up with a friend this afternoon and her young baby. She's spoke in depth about trying for her second. She started trying for her first at the same time we did and now she's going to start trying for her second. She knows we've been trying but didn't ask how things have been going which I was grateful for. I didn't mention anything either. Just smiled and really tried to be present in the conversation with her about things. It was just hard seeing her with her baby but also hearing her talking about trying again in depth and how quickly she's expecting it to happen based on the first time.

When she left, I then met up with another friend around 20 minutes later. She told me she thinks she's pregnant. They've just casually decided not to use protection and thinks it's happened fairly quickly.

I am happy for them both, I really am. I feel awful for feeling the way I do. It just seems so easy for other people and it's shit how it's not for us.

@justbeingelle Oh my that is a rough day! One after another!
It's perfectly normal to feel the way you are feeling. I have a friend who got pregnant during her first month of trying with both babies...I just keep my distance, gotta take care of my mental health!
I hope your weekend will be nice, do something to pamper yourself extra, take care of yourself.

nextweek · 31/01/2020 11:16

@justbeingelle It sucks doesn't it, dont feel bad about how it makes you feel, it's totally understandable. A lot my friends who got married and started trying for a baby the same time us as are now talking about baby no.2

Pinecone88 · 31/01/2020 12:27

Hey guys,
I have been following the chat, but took some time off to relax, went on a holiday.
I'm glad that some of you are already further on the journey as it's interesting to read different experiences.
I am starting down reg on Monday, feel quite relaxed about it.
Got a letter with my baseline scan date, I was disappointed that it's in the mid afternoon, I was hoping not to have to miss so much work.🤪

nextweek · 31/01/2020 17:48

Hi @Pinecone88 hope you enjoyed your holiday and glad you're feeling relaxed about starting on monday. Thats a pest that your appointment is mid afternoon, hope your work can be flexible with you!
