Infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland

Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are undergoing infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland because it seems as though it can vary from the rest of the UK.

DH and I have been TTC since June 2018. Started investigations around July 2019. I have a large ovarian cyst which will be removed, hopefully after Christmas. Getting a laparoscopy and dye to check tubes too. I have very regular periods and I am ovulating. DH has a low sperm count, but the ones he has are good quality. Still awaiting results from ultrasounds, genetic tests etc so still feel like we're at the beginning of our journey. This is our first time TTC and we've not had a hint of a BFP.

Anyone else?
**@jonrik* welcome to period watch 🤣 What's the plan for you when it comes? Easy to remember @willithappen* cause she's the same as me.
I'll be starting Menopur for 10-12 days and then it's egg collection right after 🙂

What happens when yours arrives?

pixelflower · 07/01/2021 17:41

@LabradorMum I don't think I'm patiently waiting for yours 🤣

@jonrik Ooooh, not long to go then!

I have to phone clinic, then start Norethisterone day 21 for about a week I think. Then it's wait for bleed, baseline scan, injections etc with egg collection around the beginning of March.

LabradorMum · 07/01/2021 18:24

🤣🤣🤣 @pixelflower so funny we would normally be like auch period time again now are like please don’t be late please 😂

So AF dependent I start Norethisterone end Jan for a week wait for bleed then baseline scans injections etc and and egg retrieval around 22nd Feb 😳

jonrik · 07/01/2021 19:30

Exciting! Sounds like we're on the same schedule but different protocols. I think I'm getting a fairly mild treatment as we know my tubes are blocked but when they weren't I was able to get pregnant rather quickly back in the day (DS is turning 12 soon). I think they worry about overstimulation more than anything as my AMH number was high too

Time will fly I think!!

LabradorMum · 07/01/2021 19:50

Hi @jonrik are you on a short protocol too? I don’t know what injections etc I will get yet I think that comes after the baseline scan to see if everything is ok, fingers crossed I don’t get started and they find something in the scan ☹️

jonrik · 07/01/2021 21:00

@LabradorMum I think so. I don't think I get a baseline scan though. That's not been discussed. From what I understand it's
Prostap on day 21
AF one week later and then Menopur for 10-12 days with 2-3 scans throughout
Egg collection and then transfer. Cyclogest for a couple of weeks

Does that sound similar to yours? Is yours a fresh cycle?

willithappen · 07/01/2021 22:37

Hey @jonrik welcome to Scottish Period Watch 😂

I'm on the same protocol as @pixelflowerand @LabradorMum and we're all roughly around same days too!

I have been told I'm on the lowest dose on the drugs injecting (I forget the names of all the drugs). Nurse told me that when we went over dates. Not quite sure why it's lowest dose but I had an AFC of 34 when I was scanned last so I think maybe that's why.
Crazy but it's been almost a whole year since they last scanned me though so anything could have changed!

LabradorMum · 08/01/2021 09:55

Morning ladies,

Hi @jonrik I thought everyone had a baseline scan that’s how they see if the meds are working, probably me just picked that up wrong though 🤦🏼‍♀️ I am Norethisterone day 21 to day 29, not sure on the other meds yet I think that will be discussed at the scan. Yeah fresh cycle.

@willithappen I am over a year since I had a scan that’s why I am a little worried about the baseline one ☹️

willithappen · 08/01/2021 11:31

@LabradorMum any sign of the witch? Lol

Yeah a year for me too so it's so strange! I think I was told I'd be in for a scan before starting injections - I thought that's when they go over how to do injections too. My dates say 12th for scan and then 13th for injections. Dates could change obviously

jonrik · 08/01/2021 11:34

Maybe I have the wrong end of the stick and I'll get a scan first next week. I understood there'd be a scan 7 days after the injections and then every other day from then. We'll find out next week :)

pixelflower · 08/01/2021 11:43

I've written down baseline scan 12th, start injections 13th and scan again 19th then every two days. So many different meds and procedures in all this.

LabradorMum · 08/01/2021 11:45

Hi @willithappen, no I always get my period overnight so will be night/early hours. Then I phone on Monday as she said it was the proper flow if you know what I mean. Yeah I thought so too, I stop the tablets then wait for a bleed then go in for scans and they check what’s happening and decide on the medication i.e. injections etc.

@jonrik, you must have a mix of nerves and excitement just now.

I am actually contemplating holding off till February, there is so much going on just now with this new strain of COVID I am scared they stop treatment mid way, I’m just having one of those days think it’s maybe just nerves ☹️

willithappen · 08/01/2021 12:12

@jonrik I think I go in for a scan seven days after stopping the tablets so maybe that's what you are as well and just mixed up with the injections?

@LabradorMum totally normal to feel that way. It's been a pipeline dream for us all for so long and once it finally gets time to start the ball moving it can then get very scary! You just have to do what is best for you!
Hopefully Monday is when I am calling as well! I'm usually an afternoon starter so might be Tuesday!

pixelflower · 08/01/2021 12:54

@LabradorMum I think there's probably a lot of people feeling the same way. I think it was always going to be more nerve-wracking the closer you get to starting, and the Covid situation just takes it to a whole new level.

In regards to SPW , I've had a bit of spotting so looks like on track for period coming on time. Again with the madness, usually I'd be really down, then convince myself that it doesn't mean I'm out, but today I'm happy as it looks like won't have a longer than my average cycle again.

jonrik · 08/01/2021 15:47

Ah maybe @willithappen. What Tablets are you on? I'm not taking anything until the Menopur injections start next week. It was just a one-off Prostap shot.

willithappen · 08/01/2021 16:52

Ah @jonrik I think you are on a different protocol than us then.
I'm on northisterone from day 21 of my next period for a few days then bleed then in for injections after that. So you could be right with your scan

jonrik · 08/01/2021 17:05

Ah ok. Those help timing the period, don't they? I have been pretty much on 28 days (often to the hour) since I first had my period and I've never been on the pill. There have only been a handful of times when I was a day early or a couple of days later so that's probably why I don't get that one. They might still give me a scan before injections I suppose but I'll wait and see Smile

willithappen · 08/01/2021 18:09

Yeah that's what they say it's for. Although I am pretty much 28 days every month also and very regular so not sure if it's just a standard thing they do with short protocol or why they do it really

jonrik · 08/01/2021 18:21

Yeah. Makes me wonder why I don't get them when so far every story I've read had them. Odd. Got to trust the professionals know what they're doing I suppose!

Tofu35 · 09/01/2021 11:54

Hi everyone, hope I can join this group! In Scotland so it's nice to read people's experiences of clinics etc that will mimic my own!
Quick history: TTC since Sept 2019, GP contacted in July 2020 (when I hit 35). Had hormone panels done, DH had semen analysis (low mophology but other measurements fine), and had a private hycosy in November 2020. I've got an appointment with Glasgow NHS fertility clinic to talk about next steps.

pixelflower · 09/01/2021 12:58

Hi @Tofu35
Do you have long to wait for your appointment?.

Eiremogra · 09/01/2021 13:14

Hi @Tofu35 - I have my hycosy booked for the 21st of this month. How did yours go? I’m super nervous!!!
Welcome to the group 💕

willithappen · 09/01/2021 13:52

@Tofu35 hey! Welcome!
Hope your appointment isn't too long away! I'm pretty much same as you in that low morphology, everything else fine but they have us as 'unexplained' I'm almost certain morphology has something to to do with it! Because my partner has 'above average' sperm count though they see that as counting out the low morphology

I can feel AF coming now so think I might be on track for it coming on Monday

pixelflower · 10/01/2021 20:47

SPW Breaking News 🤣 Period started this afternoon so will be phoning tomorrow 😶

willithappen · 10/01/2021 20:59

Nice one @pixelflower !!
It's funny how it works isn't it? Thats you back to being ahead of me again haha.
No sign of mine yet. Could be tomorrow or Tuesday!
