Infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland

Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are undergoing infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland because it seems as though it can vary from the rest of the UK.

DH and I have been TTC since June 2018. Started investigations around July 2019. I have a large ovarian cyst which will be removed, hopefully after Christmas. Getting a laparoscopy and dye to check tubes too. I have very regular periods and I am ovulating. DH has a low sperm count, but the ones he has are good quality. Still awaiting results from ultrasounds, genetic tests etc so still feel like we're at the beginning of our journey. This is our first time TTC and we've not had a hint of a BFP.

Anyone else?

@willithappen not allowed to leave a message it’s against data protection I’ve had this conversation with them before and my GP. My appointment is on Tuesday but you could be right, just have to wait and see what Monday brings I suppose 🤷🏼‍♀️

LabradorMum · 19/12/2020 17:59

Wonder what level 4 means for us now for 3 weeks “lockdown” from Boxing Day. Not sure if treatment still goes ahead or not 🤷🏼‍♀️

willithappen · 19/12/2020 18:03

@LabradorMum I'm hopeful that it won't affect us as they said before it wouldn't. All depends on if the hospital is overwhelmed and staff from the fertility clinic are pulled to other departments I guess

As February will be when I start pills/going into the clinic I'm going to try stay hopeful and not stress with this set of lockdown.

LabradorMum · 19/12/2020 18:14

@willithappen really hope so 🤞🏻

Confused thought we had to go for scans when we got our period in January is it not till February we get the scans then?

I have my nurse appointment on Tuesday she will be getting grilled 🤣

jonrik · 19/12/2020 18:25

That was my first thought just there. We're travelling from Edinburgh to Glasgow for treatment and I wonder whether tier 4 means that it will be cancelled as it's technically elective and travel will be hugely discouraged as well. That would make me very sad Sad

LabradorMum · 19/12/2020 18:33

It’s really lockdown without calling it that isn’t it 🤷🏼‍♀️ Fingers crossed these services still go ahead, I will ask on Tuesday she what she says. I also have bloods booked for the 4th January so will need to ask her about that.

In limbo once again 😤

willithappen · 19/12/2020 18:47

@LabradorMum my notes say I'd be in 12th Feb for the scan and starting injections. Then scans on 19th, 22nd and 24th then EC 26th

I didn't take down any notes on having scans before then so I'm not sure if I just wasn't told or if there are no scans until then?

(Those dates above may be one day later than what I will actually be doing as my period arrived a day early this month)

LabradorMum · 19/12/2020 18:58

Hi @willithappen sorry not meaning to sound like I am questioning you or anything just confused myself I thought we got our period went for scans then we started the medication etc. and the scans were to see how we reacted to the treatment we were getting. I am totally confused by how testament starts 🤪🤣

Will be asking the nurse on Tuesday 😆

willithappen · 19/12/2020 20:53

@LabradorMum no it's okay, I'm sure I will know more once I call with my January period.
Definitely ask when you get your appointment :)

Pumpkinspice77 · 19/12/2020 22:29

Think it depends what protocol you are on... some they scan you on cycle day 3 and meds start. Others they scan you on day 21, then meds start. I don’t think they’ll stop fertility services honestly. Fingers crossed I’m right.

pixelflower · 20/12/2020 01:19

I think they're using Norethisterone to control the timings better. If they can tell us when to come off it and have a good idea when we'll have a bleed can space us out better. Then we start the protocol from that bleed/period. I was also told similar dates to @willithappen and that first scan would be early February after being on Norethisterone.

@jonrik fingers crossed for you that this doesn't affect your treatment. Being so close and something getting in the way would be awful.

@LabradorMum was it definitely the clinic? I thought the hospital usually came up as a withheld number. Is it a video appointment you have? Maybe they're still having issues and were phoning to let you know it's a call instead.

willithappen · 21/12/2020 10:55

@LabradorMum any update from clinic today? Did you try call them back?

LabradorMum · 21/12/2020 11:12

Hi @willithappen, not a thing they have said they have nothing on my notes so they really aren’t sure, she said she would look into but if I heard nothing back just to take it as a mistake.

willithappen · 21/12/2020 12:10

@LabradorMum at least your appointment is tomorrow so not too long to worry about if it was something!
Excited for you for getting your dates and protocol tomorrow! Keep us updated! What time is your appointment?

LabradorMum · 21/12/2020 13:14

@willithappen had a call back from the doctor it was something that was discussed for treatment but they had noted, all sorted now.

In the afternoon tomorrow, will do 😁 Do you know at all about when we get weighed again before treatment I think it’s not until the day we can for our first scan as we won’t be going to clinic until then, we’re you weighed when you got your bloods done?

willithappen · 21/12/2020 13:35

@LabradorMum I wasn't told anything about when we would be weighed again no. I wasn't weighed at bloods either, just in for bloods and away again!

pixelflower · 22/12/2020 08:16

@LabradorMum good luck for your appointment today. Hope you get answers to your questions 😊

willithappen · 22/12/2020 11:28

@LabradorMum good luck! Hopefully have you joining us in the Jan period batch!

LabradorMum · 22/12/2020 14:41

Hey ladies, hope everyone is well.

Had my nurses appointment, very nice lady. So my first base scan will be 8th Feb (pills before then) start injections then egg retrieval will be 22nd Feb, obviously all subject to auntie flo playing ball 🤣

willithappen · 22/12/2020 14:51

@LabradorMum
Sounds like you are on the same us as! You'll be starting before me though, couple days before I think!
I'll be starting pills 31st Jan, think EC is looking at 25th Feb

LabradorMum · 22/12/2020 14:52

All very close together which is great support to have though 😄

pixelflower · 22/12/2020 15:09

Oooo, all so close! Really just down to AF now 😶 We'll be looking to you for the answers now @LabradorMum 🤣

LabradorMum · 22/12/2020 15:13

@pixelflower the pressure 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣🤣 quite exciting I feel like I can relax and enjoy Christmas as much as we can just and look forward to next year 😃

pixelflower · 22/12/2020 15:21

@LabradorMum 🤣 no pressure. Did you ask about when we get weighed again?
I have a week's holiday to take and don't know whether to ask for the last week in February as it looks like that'll be when I have the most appointments or hold off till I know better one AF turns up. Quite good as didn't realise I had holidays left 🤣🤦
