Infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland

Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are undergoing infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland because it seems as though it can vary from the rest of the UK.

DH and I have been TTC since June 2018. Started investigations around July 2019. I have a large ovarian cyst which will be removed, hopefully after Christmas. Getting a laparoscopy and dye to check tubes too. I have very regular periods and I am ovulating. DH has a low sperm count, but the ones he has are good quality. Still awaiting results from ultrasounds, genetic tests etc so still feel like we're at the beginning of our journey. This is our first time TTC and we've not had a hint of a BFP.

Anyone else?

@itsmschanandlerbong yeah it feels good knowing it's actually the start of it and I have it there ready. I'm just nearing the end of my period now too, so one more period to get before it's time to call!!
Fingers crossed the next month and a bit passed quickly! Do you have an idea of when you are due to start?

pixelflower · 16/12/2020 15:13

I was just watching a video with rare steak and got me thinking about the things you can't have when pregnant. Going to have a look and see what I'd miss most and eat them before I start the process. Thinking of how I'll manage to finally go to Miller and Carter now we're in Tier 3 before starting definitely makes it seem closer 🤣

itsmschanandlerbong · 16/12/2020 18:14

@willithappen I'm thinking it'll be around April time, which feels like forever away!

willithappen · 16/12/2020 18:21

@pixelflower oh boy if we get lucky I'm sure gonna miss a rare steak!!

@itsmschanandlerbong are you on the waiting list currently and waiting for top of the list appointment? It seems like they are getting through things quite fast now!

pixelflower · 16/12/2020 23:58

@willithappen going to have a rare steak, some nice cheeses and a glass of wine 🤣

Eiremogra · 17/12/2020 07:14

@willithappen cheese and wine are my favourite!! 🍷

willithappen · 17/12/2020 07:50

I have barely touched a drop of alcohol all year so gonna make the most of the festive period! Haha.

Cheese and wine sounds delicious right now. Shame it's 8am haha

Eiremogra · 17/12/2020 08:11

@willithappen true! 😂

Ladies I’m having my HSG X-ray next month. How did you ladies who have had this done find the whole experience? I’m feeling anxious, more so as I don’t know what to expect! My fertility nurse said it might be painful....is that nurse code for it might be torture?!!!

LabradorMum · 17/12/2020 09:04

Morning Ladies, hope everyone is well.

Foood why is it worse at Christmas with all the nice treats about. I really need to watch my weight so will only be having treats Christmas Eve/Day, rest of the time I’ll have to be super good, with my period due on the 8th weigh in day is likely to be the 11th so can’t be over or treatment won’t happen!

@Eiremogra didn’t have one, so not sure at all.

jonrik · 17/12/2020 09:10

Morning ladies,

I'm dead excited - I finally have my first appointment booked and I'm starting my meds on the 5th of Jan with a potential egg retrieval in the last week of Jan. It's been a long 10 years of TTC for us and I'm so happy we can get going now.
Anyone else on a similar schedule?

LabradorMum · 17/12/2020 09:16

Hi @jonrik wow so exciting, so many of us are going to be on the same timescale!

jonrik · 17/12/2020 09:20

Yay! @LabradorMum that's great. We haven't told anyone that we're going down the IVF road so other than my partner, there's isn't really anyone I can chat with at the moment so it great to have a few ladies in here to go through the rollercoaster together Smile

Eiremogra · 17/12/2020 09:20

I’m a long way behind you ladies having just had our first fertility clinic appointment this week but it’s so helpful to follow your journey - prepare me for what’s in store for me and OH. Such a lovely group of ladies, I really wish you all well!! Xx

LabradorMum · 17/12/2020 09:50

@jonrik same here, I told a friend but she has three kids so wish I hadn’t mentioned it to be honest, I don’t really bring it up with her. So totally agree it’s nice to be able to speak to you all about our journeys 😊

@Eiremogra I so wish there was a chat like when we had our first appointments as we had no idea what to expect at all.

willithappen · 17/12/2020 09:51

@Eiremogra sorry I haven't had HSG just a HyCoSy but I was nervous as anything before that too! I'm not 100% sure the different between them actually

@jonrik so exciting! It feels great to finally get to this point doesn't it? Are you at AFC also? How you feeling about it all?

Eiremogra · 17/12/2020 10:02

@willithappen I’m sure the HyCoSy is the same thing...how was it for you? Was it very painful afterwards?

jonrik · 17/12/2020 10:18

@willithappen
I'm just very excited but at the same time really nervous. So far it's all been theoretical and now it feels real. I've been very good at not thinking too much about it but ever since yesterday when I've been given the appointment, the meds are ordered, I haven't been able to think about anything other than this.

What is AFC?
Are you on a similar schedule?

willithappen · 17/12/2020 10:45

@Eiremogra the HyCoSy was actually fine for me. I took paracetamol about 20 minutes before. I had sharp pain twinges that lasted about 3 seconds max occasionally. Afterwards I was totally fine and no pain at all, could go on as normal. I know everyone is different though but just try relax (as silly as that is to say I know)

@jonrik AFC = Aberdeen Fertility Clinic :)
I'm not due to start until I get my January period and then start the tablets 21 days after that so last couple days in Jan is when it will be fully in motion for me!

jonrik · 17/12/2020 10:51

ah ok @willithappen. No, I'm at GCRM in Glasgow.
The way I understood it from the last nurse call, I'll start meds on the 5th of Jan, am to expect my period in the week of the 11th and then egg retrieval/transfer at some point in the week of the 25th of Jan but she said we'll need to wait until I had my period before we know for sure.
I nearly made it into the Dec cycle but the bloodwork was a day late. Ah well, at least I can have a mulled wine at Christmas I suppose Wine

LabradorMum · 17/12/2020 11:34

That’s my bloods now booked for January.

@willithappen had to go to the hub, the lady said doctors surgeries are stopping taking bloods that’s why they have had to create these hubs.

willithappen · 17/12/2020 12:13

@jonrik sounds like you are the same as me but just one month ahead! Let us know how you get on and share your journey :)

@LabradorMum ah that would explain it. I must have just managed to squeeze getting in to my GP then. I'm just hoping they have my results in the system and I don't have to do them again haha. Although nurse didn't sound too worried about when they were done, just needs to be done before treatment starts.

LabradorMum · 18/12/2020 18:17

Hey ladies, hope everyone is good 😄

So here’s a little stress and nerves just like we don’t have enough going on to alert me till the weekend! Was out with the dog and had a missed call (didn’t hear it as it’s blowing a gale outside), the number is a generic outgoing number from ARI meaning the clinic 🤦🏼‍♀️😯 they shut at 4 so really concerned on what they could possibly want. Why wait till 1750 on a Friday night to phone, here’s to a stress filled weekend 😤

willithappen · 18/12/2020 20:14

Oh gosh @LabradorMum I would be freaking out too!

Are you waiting on anything for them? Or what was your last communication with them?

LabradorMum · 18/12/2020 20:36

@willithappen I know right, nope not a thing. I have booked my bloods, got the nurse video appointment on Tuesday so not a clue 🤷🏼‍♀️

willithappen · 18/12/2020 21:58

@LabradorMum maybe they need to reschedule the nurses appointment (fingers crossed that's not what it is though!) or maybe even bring it forward a bit?

Shame they didn't leave a voicemail!
