Anyone on Letrozole?

1000 replies

rubywoo24 · 25/08/2019 21:46

Hi everyone

I have been prescribed 3 cycles of Letrozole and I have just started AF after a very very long few months. So quite excited to finally getting things going!
We're currently away and I do have my medication with me but not the leaflet that came with it. So just want to double check that I am taking it correctly:

  • do I count tomorrow as CD1 as AF only started at 9.30pm today
  • is there a specific time that I have to take the tablets, I think night time is recommended?
  • do I take both tablets together?

Any other help or advice would be much appreciated!

@Carleyxo that was without IVF. Said 80% of women get pregnant within the first year and of the 20% who don’t, 50% of them conceive naturally in the following year. Guess the odds are different if you have a known cause of infertility though. Interestingly he said my low AMH shouldn’t affect my chances of conceiving naturally and, unlike the other consultant, he seems to think I was ovulating so we’re none the wiser as to why it’s not happening for us.

Sounds like a good plan and fingers crossed all of his hard work pays off. If you ovulate without the letrozole then there’s still a reasonable chance of getting lucky in the meantime but you can save all the big guns for your “last” go x

Sylva123 · 17/02/2020 20:08

Gosh @LongtermTTC that is such a lot to take in. But so amazing that they were able to give you all that info right at the start.

When you're up against the body clock it's hard to know what to do with that stat about people getting pregnant naturally in the 2nd year of trying... Like do you wait and see but risk being in the same position a year down the line if it doesn't happen or do you just plunge into treatment? It's so hard to know what to do. I'm about 2 years and a quarter TTC now and I regret not pushing to start treatment sooner, but if it had happened naturally I'd be so pleased I'd waited. It's all a total guessing game gamble with no guarantees either way. We could get lucky, or not.
Whats your gut telling you to do? Another letrozole and then the IVF?
Good that you and your OH balance each other out with optimism / pessimism! And amazing to hear that success story about the woman with the one egg. It totally is possible, it's just hard to imagine cos we've had such little success!

Carleyxo · 17/02/2020 20:19

That's so interesting isn't it @LongtermTTC well hopefully I'm one of the 50% this year lol.

I know what you mean @Sylva123 I know I have age on my side and husbands age doesn't matter as much (I don't know - I'm unsure I've read mixed things) it's so hard to know what the right decision is x

AfterGlow87 · 17/02/2020 20:33

Hi all! Sorry to hear no BFP’s - fingers crossed for everyone this month 🤞

@LongtermTTC It’s good he was able to give you lots of info! In my clinic we would see a lot of women with a lower AMH per say - but it only takes one good one so I’m ever the optimist (for others but not myself 😂)- my clinics pregnancy rate is currently 80% and our age demographic would be late 30’s and over so it does give me hope.

I’ve had a bad few days so needed a break from online. I keep reading about the negatives of a hydrosalpinx on IVF and feel hopeless but I’m sure it will pass. I just wish surgery was an option for me but it isn’t right now. I also think the Letrozole affecting my moods 🤔

@Carleyxo think I may take a months break myself after this month

HarrietM87 · 18/02/2020 09:45

@AfterGlow87 I’ve just googled hydrosalpinx - hadn’t heard of it. Is your other tube ok? My friend only has one ovary and one tube and she has a baby now, conceived naturally, so it is definitely possible.

I gave myself the trigger shot on Sunday at 9pm so expecting to ovulate in the next couple of hours. Last time the pains were horrendous but can’t feel anything now so wondering if I managed to cock up the injection somehow?! Really hate doing it! Had sex last night and the night before and will try again tonight but feeling really demoralised and distracted. A break sounds very attractive but I also feel panicked with every month that goes by 🙁

AfterGlow87 · 18/02/2020 16:55

@HarrietM87 they can’t see one on the other tube but I can’t have a HSG to check so taking Letrozole blindly to see what happens! We are moving to IVF in June, just need to save up as no funding where I’m from.

Good luck this month! I don’t think no pain means it hasn’t worked as a lot of people don’t have any at all 🤔

HarrietM87 · 18/02/2020 21:03

ah @AfterGlow87 I see. Fingers crossed for you! And at least you’ll have more certainty with IVF. I think sometimes the body can do amazing things. I read a thread on here where someone only had one tube and she got pregnant from an egg which had come from the tubeless ovary. It had somehow made its way over to the tube on the other side!

I did get ovulation pains later in the afternoon so feeling a bit less stressed now. Just need to put it all out of my mind for 10 days and get back on the steroids.

Carleyxo · 18/02/2020 22:44

It's nice to be having a month off @AfterGlow87
I know what you mean @HarrietM87 time is precious but I felt this month time off was needed.

My cousin has fallen pregnant twice with one tube @AfterGlow87 so it's possible but it's so hard to keep hope up when you're in this situation.
Sending love x

HarrietM87 · 21/02/2020 09:00

How is everyone doing? It’s been a bit quiet on here the last few days. I’m 3dpo today so nothing to report! The next week is going to drag so much.

Carleyxo · 21/02/2020 13:59

Hi @HarrietM87 i thought it's been a little quiet. Nothing to report here I'm due to ovulate Monday so got my sticks at the ready x

Sylva123 · 21/02/2020 19:11

@HarrietM87 & @Carleyxo not much to report either... Another scan on Monday to see if there are some follicles & then hopefully another trigger shot. CD8 today, but to be honest although we're dtd every other day, I am not expecting it to work this month and am getting mentally ready for the switch over to IVF.
Been keeping myself busy with hobbies and working towards a promotion at work - I'd slowed things down a bit, but I think that was all adding to how down I was feeling so have decided to try to focus on those things a bit more again, but not go crazy.
What's everyone doing this weekend? And how's everyone feeling? Sending ovulation luck to you Carley!

Carleyxo · 21/02/2020 22:26

I'm CD7 so we're at similar stages again @Sylva123 thank you for the luck, I also am not thinking it will work this month but I have hopes for next month. Is next month your last try of letrozole? X

JadeS174 · 22/02/2020 09:03

@HarrietM87 yes I thought too everyone had been pretty quiet recently. Hope you have a positive month! Let us know.

@Carleyxo good luck. I'm doubting this month is my month too but let's be hopefully for next time.

@Sylva123 you'll have to let us know how your scan goes. All the best this month!

I'm CD27, 7dpo. Not feeling anything particularly. I don't think this is my month. Yes, I had 2 dominant follicles on my last scan but a thin endometrial lining- so may have "caught an egg" but who knows whether my lining thickened enough for implantation to occur 🤔 Consultant said it could happen and we were still in with a chance.
We shall see. AF due next Sunday.

I'm going to see the 1975 tonight with DH so we are going to have a good evening and try for 1 night to forget about this crazy, emotionally, physically draining process of TTC.

Sorry for my loooong post. Love and best wishes to you all! Xxx

HarrietM87 · 22/02/2020 13:39

@JadeS174 I’ve been worrying about my lining too this month - can I ask how thick yours was and what cycle day? Mine was 5.5-6mm at cd9 and after a lot of research it seems it grows 1mm per day so hoping it got to 7.5-8 by the time I triggered at cd11. Two follicles is great! Were they one on each side or the same ovary?

JadeS174 · 22/02/2020 14:00

@HarrietM87 your lining was was better than mine! On CD14 at my follicle the scan my lining was 4mm 😩 I ovulated CD19 so if it can grow 1mm a day hopefully it got to at least 8-9mm 🤞🏼I had 2 big dominant follicles on my left and 1 smaller follicle on the right.
Fingers crossed for us both. XxX

HarrietM87 · 22/02/2020 16:19

That’s perfect @JadeS174 - if you had 5 days growing time I’m not surprised your dr wasn’t worried! Best of luck to you. When are you testing?

JadeS174 · 22/02/2020 17:27

@HarrietM87 well this was all on Clomid and due to the thin lining the consultant switched me to Letrazole to start next month if this month isn't successful. But she said to still try and we were still in with a chance.
I'm going to try and hold out until next Saturday- 14dpo before testing. Then more chance of accuracy, no disappointment if testing too early. Easier said than done though 😝 xx

AfterGlow87 · 22/02/2020 18:28

I’m CD 10 today so not much happening at the moment! Think there’s a few of us around the same stage of our cycles, give or take a few days? My husband has a bloody cold sore so hope it’s gone in the next few days 😂

Had one dominant follicle on the right side (blocked side) on Wednesday so will see how the other side is on Monday - My Doctor charges 150 euro for a scan so getting one of the girls where I work to sneakily scan me this month instead 😬

@JadeS174 my lining was just the 5mm on my last day 9 scan and went up to 8mm 3 days later, the trigger helps with that too. I also tell patients the story of a woman in my clinic whose lining was 4.2 the day of her IUI and she got pregnant so you just never know 🤞🤞 Good luck to all this month!!

JadeS174 · 22/02/2020 19:58

@AfterGlow87 thank you for the positive vibes. Hopefully that's the case for me then and it did thicken 🤞🏼
Good luck for your scan Monday. Xx

HarrietM87 · 22/02/2020 20:14

@AfterGlow87 that’s so reassuring re your lining! I’ve been worrying about mine as my last period was very light. On my 5mg letrozole cycle (which only produced one follicle; I’m aiming for 2/3 so on 7.5 now) it was 8.7mm on day 10 so 5.5mm on day 9 seemed bad and I think must be due to the higher dose.

Anyway, I’m testing next Friday so 5 days to go!

HarrietM87 · 22/02/2020 20:14

Ps good luck for your scan! Let us know how you get on!

Sylva123 · 23/02/2020 17:40

@AfterGlow87 we both have scans tmw! Good luck for yours!!

@Carleyxo sadly this is our last month on letrozole, but to be honest I don't think it's working. Still having blank opks and I never had that before I started taking it. It's so weird. It's definitely doing something to me because every month without fail I have a totally bonkers day around cd8 where my hormones go bananas. I had a proper bad one on Friday night - totally lost the plot crying over absolutely nothing. Woke up today feeling bright & happy and like myself again. So. Weird. My scans always show positive things (good lining, good follicles) but no joy.

Good luck to @HarrietM87 & @JadeS174 testing this week! Someone on this thread has to be holding that winning BFP ticket! X

Carleyxo · 23/02/2020 19:51

It's so frustrating isn't it! I'm ovulating so later on it, I have cycles of 28 and I'm ovulating on day 16 (well I have the last two months)

What day are you today? @Sylva123 x

Sylva123 · 23/02/2020 19:59

Day 10 today @Carleyxo. We're dtd every other night and hopefully I'll get the trigger shot this week so then we'll dtd every night for a couple of nights. How are you getting on with all the things you're doing for the sperm? Is Maca something you've looked into?

Carleyxo · 23/02/2020 20:03

Oh yes I'm CD9 so we're at the same
Stage again. I wish I got the trigger shot to know when it will happen. I've been dtd for the past week and I think will start tomorrow every eve for the week if we can haha. When are you getting the shot?

Ohh ok it's just draining soooo much to take and do bless him but he hasn't moaned once.

I have I really didn't like the taste so give up with it 🙈 do you take it @Sylva123 x
