Anyone on Letrozole?

1000 replies

rubywoo24 · 25/08/2019 21:46

Hi everyone

I have been prescribed 3 cycles of Letrozole and I have just started AF after a very very long few months. So quite excited to finally getting things going!
We're currently away and I do have my medication with me but not the leaflet that came with it. So just want to double check that I am taking it correctly:

  • do I count tomorrow as CD1 as AF only started at 9.30pm today
  • is there a specific time that I have to take the tablets, I think night time is recommended?
  • do I take both tablets together?

Any other help or advice would be much appreciated!

@carleyxo and @unknownscot - the people at the clinic were lovely and the open evening was quite a nice informal introduction without any pressure. They gave a talk and a tour and was entirely up to you if you wanted to ask them anything one to one of just slope off quietly under the radar. Was good to get some initial thoughts for free with no obligation and we’ve decided to go back for a full consultation before we make any for decisions (I could self refer and the consultation costs about £225 at my clinic as I already have all the test results). I’m sure you’ll be glad you went @unknownscot - the more information you have the better I think x

LongtermTTC · 12/02/2020 23:20

@Sylva123 - I know I said I’d share this on the other thread but thought some of the others might find this useful too. Obviously may vary by clinic or if having mild or natural cycle IVF but I found it a really useful summary x

Sorry, just realised that last one was upside down - to save you standing on your head here they are again! x

Sometimes we just need to escape and breathe don't we @Sylva123
Oh maybe it was, I guess it depends what people needs etc too. Oh bless them is it a lot cheaper abroad?

I agree someone musf get their BFP soon! X

Sylva123 · 13/02/2020 07:34

@Carleyxo yes it's way cheaper, but when I spoke to someone at the Fertility Show last year they said be wary of abroad ones because they don't have the same rules around what they count as success in their "success figures". In the UK you can check each clinics success rate in the HFEA website. I think going abroad works well for a lot of people, but I don't think it's for me as I'd just stress about being away from home I think.
She likes it though - they go away for a week and get the egg collection done and the bit where they put it all back in again, then it's back home for the TWW.

Are you ok? Is AF due this weekend? Are you gonna test? Hope you're alright xx

Carleyxo · 13/02/2020 07:37

I'm with you there I think I would just prefer to know what I'm paying aswell rather than the worry of extra flights and hotels etc. Plus it's just a lot more chilled being at home if you feel unwell.

According to my apps it's tomorrow or Saturday but I think it's more Sunday Monday because of late ovulation. I doubt I'll test as I have zero symptoms and sure the illness will of wiped any chance of it happening. I'll probably just wait I think then on to last round of letrozole @Sylva123 x

Sylva123 · 13/02/2020 07:40

@longtermTTC that is incredibly useful, thank you so much for sharing! Looks like a few of us are looking at this as a next step, so this is great timing. So that's about an 8 week timeline. So helpful to see it all mapped out like that. I'd heard people mention "Down reg" and hadn't known what it meant. I feel really scared about this next step. Please please please letrozole... Work this time.

Sylva123 · 13/02/2020 07:42

Yes @Carleyxo she said it's way more expensive to fly there in the summer and so it can add more to it all. And it's not a holiday cos you're so anxious that whole week!

I hope whatever happens this weekend it's ok. If AF does come then at least you're closer to another cycle and another chance. But I'm still hoping for you that this round has worked.

LongtermTTC · 13/02/2020 11:03

Eek - I’ve got my consultation with the IVF clinic tomorrow! 😬 They could either do tomorrow or not until the 4th of March (which is also my birthday) so decided to just go for it. Exciting and terrifying at the same time! Either way we’ll probably give letrozole another go so not rushing into anything but think I’ll feel better knowing what’s next after that if it doesn’t work. So that’ll be an IVF consult and my follicle tracking scan all on Valentines Day - how romantic!! 🙄

@Sylva123 what day are you and when’s your next scan? Hope the chat with the clinic today is helpful x

@Carleyxo there’s still hope and like you said, at least one of us surely is due that BFP! x

HarrietM87 · 13/02/2020 11:17

@LongtermTTC that’s exciting! My follicle scan is tomorrow too - so romantic 🤣. My husband is away on Friday and Saturday night which means we lose a couple of sex opportunities. Assuming I trigger on day 11 (Sunday) again we’re supposed to have sex on Monday and Tuesday (ie 1 and 2 days post trigger, which should be O-1 and O day), though I usually like to do the trigger day too, and a couple of days before (so o-4, o-2, o-1, o day). What does everyone else do?

Sylva123 · 13/02/2020 11:31

Yes @harrietm87 I try every other day leading up to the trigger, then day of the trigger and the two days following that. Advice seems to vary so much though. Don't know if it differs if there are sperm issues. In IVF I've read that they ask the man to abstain for 3 days before getting the sample so they have a good "batch"... So don't know if too often is detrimental or good really. My Dr says day of trigger and next 2 days though. Good luck!!!!

Sylva123 · 13/02/2020 11:32

Oooh @LongtermTTC crikey that's so quick! Let us know how it goes tmw. It is really good to have a plan ahead of you. Creates a bit of control and hope I think. Let us know what they say. I'm calling the clinic this afternoon. Eek.

Sylva123 · 13/02/2020 11:32

Also just waiting for my period now (it's late cos of the cyclogest) and then I'll book my scan for the final round of letrozole. Come on period!

Carleyxo · 13/02/2020 11:48

Yes thank you @LongtermTTC it's so useful to see it mapped out like that.

I know what you mean @Sylva123 it's nice to know there is a next plan and hopefully you won't need to get that for because your next two letrozole will work!

@HarrietM87 so we do every other day and try and do day of ovulation and day after. I can't comment as that hasn't worked so far but that's what I've read is the best to do. My consultant just says every other day.

@Sylva123 that's so good they're going to track you still I'm so pleased for you x

Sylva123 · 13/02/2020 13:31

@Carleyxo yes they're going to track this last go on letrozole and then we pay for the IVF. 🤞

LongtermTTC · 13/02/2020 14:26

@HarrietM87 I’ve only had one cycle of trigger shot so far and triggered the same day as my scan. Was told to only have sex every other day so that evening (Monday) and then Wednesday. Wasn’t sure if they said every other day to not put too much pressure on couples or if it was anything to do with sperm quality like @Sylva123 says but thankfully hubby’s SA is ok so we did it the day inbetween too. We’d already been having sex every other day before the scan anyway though. Interesting that different doctor recommend slightly different things though. Will see if I get a bit more notice before trigger day this cycle so can plan it a bit better. Hubby had better start limbering up... 😉 x

AfterGlow87 · 13/02/2020 15:42

Thanks for the support everyone! Needed a day to cry about it, feeling ok today. Have made a plan that if no luck in 3 more cycles we’re going to move to IVF - I feel better already having a plan. Gotta start the oul saving this month.

@LongtermTTC good luck with your consult and scan tomorrow! Same to you for your scan @HarrietM87

I would love some BFP’s on this thread, fingers crossed this month 🤞

unknownscot · 13/02/2020 19:25

Does anyone not get a follicle scan? I only get my letrozole and day 21 bloods.

Carleyxo · 13/02/2020 20:35

@unknownscot I only got a scan and blood tests on my first cycle the others I don't get anything if that's any help x

Carleyxo · 13/02/2020 21:02

Just did a test and negative as I thought x

LongtermTTC · 13/02/2020 22:53

I’m so sorry @Carleyxo, it’s always still a huge disappointment even when you weren’t expecting it to be positive 😢 xx

Sylva123 · 13/02/2020 22:58

Oh no @Carleyxo I'm so sorry. I'm starting to really bloody hate those tests. I've started swearing at the digital ones when it declares "not pregnant" at me every month. Like, yes thanks Clear Blue, I get it.

I'm sorry though. @LongtermTTC is right. It's so disappointing even if you were prepared for it not being BFP. It's still gutting every single time. Xx

LongtermTTC · 13/02/2020 22:59

@unknownscot and @carleyxo that’s annoying that you don’t get a scan every cycle. I’m guessing you don’t have the trigger shot then? I was told I could get scanned each cycle “if I wanted” so may be worth asking - they might only do it if you ask. Otherwise it must be another of those cruel postcode lottery things like IVF funding - is so infuriating how differently people get treated just based on where they live! x

LongtermTTC · 14/02/2020 07:23

Happy Valentines Day ladies, here’s hoping some Valentines Day babies are made today 😘🤞 xx

LongtermTTC · 14/02/2020 07:30

(and for those of you who aren’t at the right point in your cycle for that I hope it’s still a good excuse for some alone time with your OH that isn’t all about carefully planned timings and ovulation 😉) xx
