New year, new 'starting the journey' thread

I know there are a lot of threads about people starting out, but they were all started a while ago and everyone seems a lot further ahead these days.

So.... newbies unite?

DH and I have been ttc for 2yrs. Saw our gp who ordered blood tests and sperm tests. He gave us a boat load of info..... jokes, he was pants. Told me I was 'fine' and husband was 'not fine', only detail was that DH has 4mil out of a necessary 16mil sperm, mentioned ivf and referred us to a specialist. That's all the info we got. Today I had a transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound. It was not the most fun 20 mins of my life but it was fine, now I'm trying to play Sherlock and figure out what the random numbers the radiologist was shouting about my ovaries meant. How about you?

Because I'm early stages, I avoided forums/Google etc because I'm prone to anxiety and didn't want to panic unnecessarily. Therefore apologies but I'm still trying to figure out all the abbreviations and lingo! Also sorry, I'm naturally sarcastic and a bit sweary, but that doesn't mean I'm insensitive - it would be great to share stories and support each other here

@FinallytakingtheplungewithIVF exactly! That's what I thought. Obviously if it arrives, I will be disheartened, but at least then it'll be much sooner than usual so I can start the next cycle.

Exactly! Just think of the end goal. Shit that you've got to go through it, but I'm feeling positive it will all be worth it xx

Gosh I feel like a right fool my bird has died I’m so sad about it we’ve only had her a year and she not been very well the last few day DH took her to the vets and they wanted to sedate her and do some xrays as they thought she might have an egg stuck in her and she didn’t make it I’m trying not to cry but she was party of the family a right little diva

@FinallytakingtheplungewithIVF aww I'm so sorry to hear. You're not a fool, we get attached to our pets! What bird was she (assuming a she?).
I know you're trying not to cry, but sometimes holding it back is harder. Sending hugs ❤️❤️

She was a lovebird she was hand reared hence why she not a pair and she was so lovely and tame she use to sit on me and preen my hair and whistle back to me when i whistled! She was a little Madame at times but she was great! Thanks @kelly199 xx

So I'm 3dpo today based on when I got my +opk and i have had such bad cramps. A searing pain while I was at work and now just persistent. Is ovulation pain normal this late? I am worried I'm actually ovulating now and have missed it. We cant dtd tonight. Had such bad nights sleep, have really been overthinking things.

I think you can have ovulation pain before, during and after ovulation, so possibly?
Sperm lives for a few days anyway, but whenever you had the +opk, I think you ovulate 12-36 hours after. I think it depends if you caught the beginning or the end of the surge as to when you'll ovulate too.
Try not to worry (I know it's easy to say and hard to do as I know I'd be the same), but it could just be the pain after ovulation?
Also, I had pain after I ovulated this month for a few days on and off and then they went. I've had them again for a few days on and off since and today and yesterday, they've been quick shooting type pains. I had a scan Tuesday and everything was fine and confirmed ovulation, so probably just our bodies!! Try not to worry yourself. Hopefully you will have your bfp! Good luck to you. @veeboo good to hear ovulation happened, I don't temp mine but generally do get aches and cramps, sometimes a few days after.

I think I have ovulated too but only going by my cm and ovulation type pains this week, so am joining you in the 2ww.

I've been referred for counselling via work, hoping it will help with my intrusive thoughts about pregnancy and trying to become pregnant again.

@VenusStarr I'm ok thank you. Just waiting for af supposed to be Monday according to Flo. Hopefully it won't show and I'll have my bfp, but I'm not too hopeful as I had bfn 12&13dpo.

@VenusStarr so glad you have got some support. It's really brave and strong of you to talk through it. I'm a big supporter of counselling/therapy. I've just finished some long term therapy myself and it was difficult but great overall.

@squirrelnutkins1 hope you are okay. We are here if you need to vent.

@kelly199 are you going to test again or wait? Hope you have a nice weekend and can relax!

Cramps have eased now. A friend has just booked a prosecco lunch for the day my AF is due Sunday 5th so I think I will test that morning if doesn't come. She is someone I would probably tell early on but fully expecting another bfn so don't want to put life on hold.

@veeboo I'm going to test tomorrow am as I will be 15dpo then and if - and at still hasn't arrived, I will test Monday or Tuesday 🤞🏼

Totally agree! @Kelly199 I said to dh, if someone could tell us we definitely will have our baby but it will take X years and we'll need this treatment etc, then I'm sure I'd cope a lot better. It's the not knowing if I will ever be a mom that really makes me anxious and feel out of control.

Hope the next 9 days pass quickly @veeboo. I'm not 100% on ovulation day but counting 12 days (my luteal phase) from today takes me to 8th May. Our clinic appointment is 7 May.

My boss has said I can leave early today, got a meeting soon then will head off after that

Glad you found therapy helpful too. We only have access to short term support but I had 5 sessions previously with the same therapist when I was struggling with not getting pregnant and going through the tests and scans and it did help. X
