Hey,

I've had my appointment through finally to start my first round of IVF. Our consultation is September and hoping if we start on CD21 (no idea if we will, just what I'm presuming from research) then we will be good to start just after the middle of the month. Anyone else the tentatively waiting for a September start?

Thanks lovely. Trigger most likely Monday and ec Wednesday. Will see how it goes. Cannot risk severe OHSS so if they have to freeze then I'll have to accept. Hopefully we'll get some good enough! It's such a rough journey isn't it xx

AniSL · 27/10/2018 15:28

Tryingtobemum that sucks but do what is best for you and your body - I reckon you will anyway, baf luck about the thaw of previous but hopefully all will be well.
I knew the side effects on ovaries but silly me to assume thats it, read up on it and yes the stimms drive your body nuts - pancreas, heart, liver get it quite hard too. I had a fibroscan before my cycle and after my cycle and saw the impact on my liver. The headaches were really bad but then I guess body is starting to regulate everything again.
Did you try the gatorade to help with OHSS?

CritterTamer · 27/10/2018 16:42

@AniSL - yes it’s quite a shock when you realise how seriously they take OHSS. I thought the swelling and incredible pain were the worst of it but turns out those were the least of their worries - had blood tests for all sorts of things like liver and kidney functions, clotting agents, etc. The private clinic even treat the OHSS for free which I guess says something about how much they are worried about it.

LopeyLopez · 27/10/2018 17:32

Gosh it's been busy on here today! Just catching up.

It's not great news from me but I did get to transfer which is something..... I was seriously expecting not to with only 2 eggs fertilised and our poor results last time. Also we both - partner and me - got missed calls from the hospital whilst at work yesterday, and I thought, why else would they be calling other than to tell us not to bother coming in as all embryos had arrested? Frustratingly we both called them back and I also tried other numbers I had for various people at the clinic, but no one answered so we were left hanging til 9am today!

No embryos made it to blast sadly but both were apparently almost there - morulas, maybe 1 day behind - so I had both transferred. The fact they agreed to and even suggested transferring both tells me they were rubbish quality as my clinic is pretty strict regarding the "one at a time" policy for under 40s...... however I was just so pleased that they hadn't died during the excruciating 5 day wait with no contact that I was actually over the moon! Sounds silly but it was a complete surprise...was expecting to leave this cycle with nothing, so just getting to transfer - any transfer - made me happy!!

I'm so glad my little babies are back with me now! I wish there was a way to help them develop further inside and implant, but I guess now it's just a waiting game....again, lol! One good thing is we're on half term so I have a week off work and organising lots of lovely family trips to keep myself occupied. Also more relaxing than the daily drudgery of full time work and commuting. Great timing!

OTD is 9th Nov......groan!

Best if luck everyone. Congrats on your envies to freeze @ParksAndRecreation xxx

CritterTamer · 27/10/2018 17:38

Congrats on your transfer @Lopeylopez. Fingers crossed that they are just slow developers and will pick up speed now that they’re back where they belong 🤞

Sounds like you have a nice strategy for dealing with your TWW - good luck!

ParksAndRecreation · 27/10/2018 18:15

@Lopeylopez - I’ve been madly checking the thread all day to see if you had news!! I’m so happy for you! It’s great that you had 2 to put back!

Morula’s are great - no reason to think they would be bad quality. They’re just a bit slower. I’ve got 2 Morula’s today too - hopefully they’ll be Blasts by tomorrow (Day 6) but that’s still a day behind. There is a really interesting Instagram feed called IVF Explained where they often talk about Day 6 embryos and how not everything gets to Blast on Day 5. It seems some clinics actively look to go to Day 6 or even 7 to give them a chance to get there.

I also read that fast developing embryos are more likely to be boys 🙄 and the slower ones girls...so let’s hear it for the girls!!

I’m so thrilled you got to transfer! Cycle buddy!

FingersXssd83 · 27/10/2018 18:19

Good luck @ParksAndRecreation @LopeyLopez, I'm rooting for you xx

Peanut1980 · 27/10/2018 18:26

@lopeylopez ahh I’ve been thinking of you all day. Oh yay I’m so pleased they’re all snug with you right now. I’m not sure what the difference is between our eggs. Mine hadn’t started expanding when they transferred. It was a 3BB but it went on to do all that it should and implanted even if it was a bit late at implanting. I too read that those eggs that like to be fashionably late are girls. Divas in the making 🤣 so let’s wait and see xxxxx

Peanut1980 · 27/10/2018 18:44

@crittertamer when is your ultrasound? How are you bearing up with the wait? Mine is on Friday of next week. Just wish I could fast forward to then. Still have barely any symptoms but have from the start with this pregnancy. Very mild cramping and barely there sore boobs. Each pregnancy is so unique though x

PinkFootedGoose · 27/10/2018 18:45

That is wonderful news @lopeylopez! Been rooting for you. I felt exactly the same after my transfer post-almost cancelled cycle. The relief of transfer + somehow that at least by 'completing' the cycle I hadn't struck out quite so badly. I went into the clinic genuinely assuming they'd forgotten to call us to tell us there was nothing to transfer. I also had average embryos (4BC and a 2/3BC who was a bit behind) and they offered to put them both back. This was not normal policy for under 37s which I thought meant they probably weren't goers. And it didn't stop one (or possibly both, who knows) implanting.. so here's hoping for you.

CritterTamer · 27/10/2018 19:09

@Peanut1980 my u/s is not until a November 5th so I’ve a few days longer to wait than you and yes, I’m very anxious - not least to find out whether it’s one or two! Feeling a little better to see that CB digital had progressed to 3+ weeks this week so all I can do now is wait. I have quite a few symptoms - strong nausea waves/ dry heaving off and on, with mild nausea almost constantly, very frequent urination and very painful boobs although that’s on and off. Also getting strong/fast pulse, out of breath, dizzy spells and occasional light cramping. Today I’ve had a nasty metallic taste in my mouth and I think the biggest thing of all is very weird digestive issues - lots of acid reflux and burping! On top of all this is the OHSS pain so feeling pretty crappy in general but hoping they’re all good signs! Xxx

LopeyLopez · 27/10/2018 19:24

Aw, thanks everyone for your lovely comments. I feel very supported! 👍😍

@PinkFootedGoose I know, I am still in disbelief that I actually made it to transfer! After reading all the depressing info on attrition rates between day 1 and day 3....and then day 3 and day 5, can't believe I started with only two and still had two at the end. So shocked that they both made it. Let's hope they're little fighters!! 💪💪

And, oh my God, I would love a girl! Hoping the slow starters are girls rather than flawed in some terrible way will keep me going.

Right, back to my obsessive googling of "day 5 morula transfer success"....!!! How I hate the internet sometimes...! X

LopeyLopez · 27/10/2018 19:26

@PinkFootedGoose and yeah, like you, even if this doesn't work I just feel so much better knowing I have "completed" the course of treatment! They're the exact words I was using today with DP. How weird!

Peanut1980 · 27/10/2018 19:27

@crittertamer oh wow you’ve got enough symptoms for the two of us 🤣 I hope the OHSS pain gets better soon. Did they say how long it’s likely to last for? x

CritterTamer · 27/10/2018 19:36

@Peanut1980 - they can’t really say - apparently sometimes it can just go away fairly quickly, other people suffer with it for the entire first trimester. Worst case scenario is it can last until week 12 when the placenta fully takes over hormone production from the ovaries.

Dia12 · 27/10/2018 20:07

Wow so much going on here! Welcome to the tww @lopeylopez and @parksandrecreation - I hope it goes smoothly for you. Planning some fun family stuff is definitely the way to do it.

Welcome to the group @pinkfootedgoose - love the name 😉 is this your second cycle?

@crittertamer I feel for you, you sound like you have the whole works. How are you keeping @peanut1980?

I’ve been super busy which has really helped the past few days - kind of feeling sick at the thought of OTD.

CritterTamer · 27/10/2018 20:29

@Dia12 is it Monday? I have everything crossed for you! This seems to be a fairly lucky group so far 🤞

Peanut1980 · 27/10/2018 20:44

@crittertamer oh jeez 🙈 really hope it clears up quick for you 🤞🤞🤞

@dia12 I’m good thanks lovely. Don’t really feel pregnant. Did another test today and got the darkest line so far so that’s reassuring. Only because I had a dream about miscarrying last night. My sons been off on half term so we’ve had a busy week. I’ve also managed to chip two bloody teeth this week so have a trip to the dentist next week. Think i must have been grinding them in my sleep 😱 Was it your husbands birthday yesterday? Did you do anything nice? You’re test date is soooo close. Eeekk!! 🙏🤞🙏🤞

Dia12 · 27/10/2018 20:52

Ah thank you crittertamer - yes it is Monday 🙈 I’m feeling nauseous and body feels achey; trying not to over think it but really hope it’s not a virus.

I had no idea that slower embies are associated with girls and faster ones with boys - that’s so cool!

Dia12 · 27/10/2018 21:02

Oh bless you @peanut1980, it was his 40th and I arranged a surprise party for him (dinner and drinks out). It took some running around and being super secretive but it all together and he absolutely loved it. And so nice to see him smile, enjoy and forget all the tension for a while.

Glad to hear your test is the strongest yet, I can imagine the worry just goes on...and on...
Can’t believe you chipped two teeth! I grind my teeth too - gum shields is what you need for that, it’s probably the only reason is still have teeth!!

Peanut1980 · 27/10/2018 21:28

@dia12 oh that sounds like a great evening. Well done to you.

That’s interesting about the body aches. Weirdly I recall having body aches around test time. Not had any nausea yet though.

🙏🤞🙏🤞🙏🤞🙏🤞🙏🤞🙏🤞

Trying2bemum · 27/10/2018 21:50

I had no idea OHSS could affect your other organs, that's worrying

Fingers tightly crossed @LopeyLopez xxx

@ParksAndRecreation I follow IVF Explained on insta too. So interesting!

Tmi but fooling around earlier with DH I had an orgasm - shortly after had a lot of pain in my ovaries and felt intensely dizzy and sick - had to sit with head between knees. Am really really worried I might have ovulated and lost some eggs now ☹️ I'm on day ten of stims.

What else could that pain / reaction be??

AniSL · 27/10/2018 22:20

Dia12 good luck for Monday.
Tryingtobemum I went through a similar ordeal, consultant said that the ovaries are larger than normal so the vibration of an orgasm would be felt more and if they are enlarged to a point that OHSS may develop then it would be even more uncomfortable. Dont worry too much and just speak to your clinic if you are worried.
I am not sure about OHSS affecting other organs as luckily I never suffered in either my first or second cycle, but I am having issues after my AF, consultant told me those stimms and trigger shots cause major disruption. Worried, and idiotically, consulted Dr Google before my consultant, to find horror stories.

Trying2bemum · 27/10/2018 22:28

@AniSL thank you so much for responding! That has made me feel so much better. I've been googling like a loon and whilst most say orgasm can't induce ovulation, a few places say it can. I just can't bear the thought of losing eggs now before collection, and thinking it was my own fault!

Did you get the intense pain and nausea / dizziness too?

AniSL · 27/10/2018 22:42

No problem tryingtobemum, I think there's so much debate out there bot only between patients but so called experts too, one clinic says one thing another says another. My consultant put it quite simply - during a natural cycle does an orgasm trigger ovulation or is it a release of a hormone, if it was an orgasm then pregnancy wouldn't rely on an ovulation date. I did get intense pain but it subsided and actually ended up completely pain free throughout the rest of the cycle.
