IVF July/August 2018

Hey,

So like the title says really is anyone about to start an IVF cycle in July or August?

This is my first cycle and I’m excited/petrified!!! I would love to have some cycle buddies to chat to and for support. It’s all self funded as due to the postcode lottery we get no NHS cycles.

Just a little background. I’m 34, have been TTC for 2 and a bit years now, initial diagnosis PCOS and I had 7 cycles of Clomid which resulted in me falling pregnant in December but sadly I had a MMC at 11 weeks. I have since been diagnosed with endometriosis following an unexpectedly low AMH result. My right ovary is has a significant cyst.

I have an endometrial scratch on Monday and will begin down reg on Monday night. I’m a nurse so have no fear of needles but not sure how I’ll manage with injecting myself.

Really hope to have some company on this journey xxx

@sunny1984 I have no idea what all the fuss was about! I did a sneaky and asked my nurse if I had to use the bigger needle head and she said no, so I just attached one of the small ones I’ve been using and it was fine. Felt no sting going in but perhaps a little itchy about 30 seconds later. Got a tiny rash, but wouldn’t notice if I wasn’t looking for it! Phew!

Scan was ok... but just ok. I’m behind a day or maybe two so my cetrotide was delayed until this morning. Hoping all is ok on my Monday scan!

How are you feeling for Monday?

Sunny1984 · 04/08/2018 17:23

@Elaydee that’s good! I was going to say if it’s a green needle that is probably the drawing up needle. I have those for Suprecur then yellow to administer, it sounds like Suprecur a bit stingy then a bit of a rash for 30 minutes! When is EC scheduled for?
Erm a bit apprehensive as my body isn’t very cooperative so hoping I’m not too disappointed if I haven’t responded well yet!

Nah, the one I’ve been using is I think a 1/3mm and this new needle was 2/3mm. God, I would DIE if it was the drawing up needle. Should have seen my husbands face when the nurse was showing us what to do and she was using that whopper! Haha!

EC is Friday. When are you again?

Hunter14 · 04/08/2018 18:34

Hi Ladies,
I’m back preparing for IVF round 2 - first FET. First round was April and was unsuccessful. I’ve spent time getting my mind and body ready for round 2. I had 4 day 5 blasts so am using number 2. I’m 39 and using donor sperm as single.
Round one was very hard. Both physically and emotionally. This time, I’m doing what I can to remain calm, stress free. I’ve been having acupuncture etc. Transfer is this Thursday. Nervous, apprehensive but excited and hopeful.
I wish you all the very best on your journey’s.
xxx

Elaydee · 04/08/2018 22:17

@Hunter14 Hi! I really admire what you’re doing! I have a colleague at 37 considering doing the same in the next year or two. All the best and please stay and update as you go along xx

Springb0ks · 05/08/2018 01:01

@hunter14, wishing you so much luck for this Thursday. It sounds like you have a fantastic, positive approach towards everything which can only help. Do keep posting with how you are doing!

gingergnome · 05/08/2018 09:03

Just nipping on quickly but just wanted to say that I was so sad to hear about your result @Cobblestones. I have no wise words so just wish you the strength to take your next step, whatever that looks like and sending a hug xx

Trying2bemum · 05/08/2018 09:44

Good luck @Hunter14 🤞🏼 getting four blasts is a brilliant result. Don't beat yourself up if you're stressed or anxious - I saw a recent study showed stress made no difference to IVF outcome. I don't think it's humanly possible to go through IVF and not be stressed!

Cobblestones · 05/08/2018 11:20

@gingergnome thank you I think I’m ok and looking ahead.

Ladies I hope you don’t mind me sticking around. I have decided to go straight into a cycle of stimulation. Not sure if I will get a fresh transfer this time or not (I didn’t last time) but I remain hopeful.

Good luck for the transfer @hunter and for EC @elaydee

Springb0ks · 05/08/2018 11:43

@cobblestones, we're here for you as you move forward. Wishing you so much luck for your next stage, you deserve this Flowers

Elaydee · 05/08/2018 12:19

@cobblestones so pleased you’ve decided on a plan. That’s the best way to realign your focus and stay positive! Over here cheering you on!!

@sunny1984 spoke too soon... this mornings jab stung like a mofo! Got a bit too confident didn’t I? Haha!

35counting · 05/08/2018 17:48

Hi ladies, hope you’ve all had nice weekends. Im in the middle of another headache episode which isn’t good as we have a 3 hour drive home to face! Then back in for a scan at 8:30 in the morning to see how things are going.

Welcome @Hunter14 and best of luck.

I find the injections really vary too @Elaydee, sometimes I don’t really feel them and others they really hurt. Wish I knew why to minimise pain every time!

Thanks for the FRIO tip @Sunny1984, it’s been so useful this weekend. We had to do them at the party yesterday and staggered “toilet visits” before sneaking off to the house together. DH had had a couple of drinks before we did them so I’ve got a bruise as a result but think we managed to hide it from all our friends anyway.

ChocolateLab · 05/08/2018 20:38

Hello everyone

I might be a bit late to the party but is anyone just about to start a short protocol in the next week? I am due to start on the 11th August, mother nature allowing (although she hasn't been too understanding so far...).

I am 34, TTC for 4 years, big drop in AMH recently so decided to skip the rest of our paid for IUI and go straight to IVF. On the flare protocol. Have some of the usual bad stuff (Endo, Ando, Fibroids, Ovarian Cysts, 'slow' fallopian tubes(?), lining problems). DH is all good though so that is something.

Pretty nervous, not about the injections but more the hassle of it all and the potential we might not end up with any blasts. Still feels like a positive step in the right direction though.

xx

Elaydee · 05/08/2018 20:57

Hey @chocolatelab and welcome! I’m day 7 into short protocol. I’m surprised at how easy it has been so far, but most of my scans and hopefully EC are all this week. I’m worried about time off work as I haven’t told my work... but apart from that it has been much better than I expected. Good luck :)

bjonesreborn · 05/08/2018 21:16

Well done on making a decision cobblestones decidingwhat to do next is often a big step. Hope you can get going quickly again
hunter and chocolatelab
welcome and good luck
I’m off for my first progress scan tomorrow, as with my other cycles i’m in a panic there won’t be any follicles there!
Good luck to everyone for scans/ec/et/appts this week

ChocolateLab · 05/08/2018 21:28

@bjonesreborn - good luck for the scan tomorrow, I hope you have loads of follies and they are zooming along nicely. When did you start stimming?

I'm a bit worried about my clinic (LWC) as they want to start me on a high dose and then not see me for a whole week - for my IUI i was on a much lower dose of Gonal F (50 for IUI compared to 325 for IVF) and they saw me every two days.

@Elaydee - fingers crossed for scans and EC working out for this week. I told my boss in January - partially because I was hoping to start my treatment sooner and partially because I knew someone else in my team was pregnant (pre 12 weeks) so I wanted to get in before her news! My boss was lovely about it though (in fact he told me all his journey to have a baby) so I hope it works out if you do decide to say something.

bjonesreborn · 05/08/2018 21:47

chocolatelab started stimming last Monday. So don’t worry that they are making you wait a week, it’s normal! I’m on the highest dose too due to low amh and my age. I’m on short protocol too with ec provisionally booked for Friday. However I think it will be the following Monday as my last 2 cycles they haven’t been ready that quickly. But I was on long protocol before so who knows!!
Good luck for your stimming, the best thing about short protocol is once it’s starts it’s so quick!!

Sunny1984 · 05/08/2018 22:13

Welcome @ChocolateLab and @Hunter14

@ChocolateLab I’m in a similar position AMH has dropped from 36 to 9 in the last 18months!!!
I had Clomid cycles before starting IVF and was scanned regularly. They have put me on max dose of 450 and left me a week so I freaked out a bit, I’ve gone with and will have my first scan tomorrow! Like @bjonesreborn I’m really apprehensive they will say there aren’t any follicles, so pleased you said that as I thought it was just me going crazy about it tonight!!!

@35counting The FRIO is great isn’t it?!
Good luck for your scan tomorrow will be keeping everything crossed for you and everyone else who has a scan tomorrow! Mine is at 10am.

@Cobblestones So pleased you have a made a plan, I find that always helps. Hope you are doing ok and looking after yourself xx

Thank you @Sunny1984, it’s still slow going at this end, good news is I have 9 on the left hand side now but bad news is only 2 are anywhere near the right size and right hand side is still not responding, 3 under 10. Very disappointing. I need at least 3 at 18+ to proceed so more stimms and back in on Wednesday for the next scan! This is where the 40min journey to the hospital becomes wearing.

Good luck for your scan today @Sunny1984 and to @bjonesreborn, hope you have more luck than me!

bjonesreborn · 06/08/2018 09:28

35counting they can change an awful lot in 2 days, try not to worry.
My scan was ok, lining thick enough, and 2 follicles on each side. All I want is 1 to have an egg in it. Back again on wed morning also for scan and then probably ec on Friday

Jenbot78 · 06/08/2018 10:32

Hi everyone, can I join? Not sure if I'm a bit late to the party but if not would be really good to chat...not feeling so positive right now!

TTC since age 35, diagnosed with hypothyroidism and treated for this. Still not pregnant two years later and told "unexplained" by the NHS. Had IVF 1 aged 37 which ended in a chemical pregnancy. Saw a private specialist who told me that I have an autoimmune thyroid disease and that this is likely why I haven't been able to get pregnant. IVF2 privately with steroids. Resulted in my daughter aged 15 months. Two frozen leftover, so we are rolling the dice again.

I have just turned 40 BTW so no spring chicken!

Not feeling positive about next round, not sure if it's the drugs or what...Anyway I hope everyone else is hanging in there.

Jenbot78 · 06/08/2018 10:32

I should add, I started Progynova a week ago and am due my lining scan on 14th, I guess transfer will be the week after...

Elaydee · 06/08/2018 11:42

Ah good times. Waiting for my scan this morning and there is a little girl here (who is very cute) but parents are letting run wild and she is going up to all the women in here and poking them. Talk about a slap in the face for all the women going through IVF here!

@sunny1984 @35counting we must all have EC this Friday (hopefully!) how great to all do it together.

Welcome @jenbot78 all the best for your second. My FS told me a story about a patient of his that was 46 and gave birth recently after many attempts. My point being that at 40 with embryos from a few years ago is still a good chance!!!

35counting · 06/08/2018 13:16

Sorry @Elaydee, I didn’t realise your scan was today too, hope it went ok. Annoying re child in clinic again!

I’m not holding out much hope for EC on Friday, unless my follicles suddenly have a huge growth spurt!

aandre26 · 06/08/2018 18:32

Hello Ladies.

Can I join the fertility train too??

Sending love and hope to you all who are on your journey! It would be nice to have someone to talk to that can relate to how I feel and knows what im going through.

We started stims on Saturday, I worked myself into such a panic, i didnt sleep at all on the Friday.
Looking back, it really wasnt that bad, but saying that my husband has to do the injecting for me, I cant do it myself.

We are on a short protocol, Bemfola and Cetritide. Main side effects are bloating and headaches. But trying to drink plenty of water to help with that.
We have our first scan on Saturday, not sure how to feel about that.

Im 30 years old, been ttc for 3 1/2 years and this is our first cycle!!
I dont know when ec will be but hopefully will know better on saturday!!

Good luck ladies!!! Xx
