IVF July/August 2018

Hey,

So like the title says really is anyone about to start an IVF cycle in July or August?

This is my first cycle and I’m excited/petrified!!! I would love to have some cycle buddies to chat to and for support. It’s all self funded as due to the postcode lottery we get no NHS cycles.

Just a little background. I’m 34, have been TTC for 2 and a bit years now, initial diagnosis PCOS and I had 7 cycles of Clomid which resulted in me falling pregnant in December but sadly I had a MMC at 11 weeks. I have since been diagnosed with endometriosis following an unexpectedly low AMH result. My right ovary is has a significant cyst.

I have an endometrial scratch on Monday and will begin down reg on Monday night. I’m a nurse so have no fear of needles but not sure how I’ll manage with injecting myself.

Really hope to have some company on this journey xxx

Hey everyone! I’m 31 and new to this site. We have been trying to conceive for over two years with several failed cycles in clomid, femara , and 3 Iuis. I am waiting for my period so can start my cycle of ICSI. Have my appointment on Monday 6/8/18 to start the injections. Feeling extremely nervous but excited as hopefully this is it for us! Have never seen a positive on a pregnancy test

Elaydee · 03/08/2018 11:49

@cobblestones Sorry to read your result. Pants. I second taking advantage of the counseling services. After my second ectopic in a row I spoke with the lady at my hospital a few times and it helped get everything out to someone who wasn’t emotionally involved. I was having a wobble and I think PTSD and I think people close to me were getting a little tired of hearing me repeat myself. The great thing about these people is they have to listen to you, and it’s great to get it all out! Love and hugs x

Elaydee · 03/08/2018 12:05

@A280 welcome. I’ve found everyone very helpful and lovely here! Smile

A280 · 03/08/2018 12:08

Thank you so much Smile it’s very lonely not being able to share what is going on apart with hubby- so nice to have such support!

Springb0ks · 03/08/2018 12:12

@cobblestones Flowers, life is so unfair sometimes. I'm really sorry. Look after yourself this weekend.
@a280, welcome! Same here, 31 and never seen a positive on a test (...yet, positive thinking, etc). Wishing you luck on your journey, joining this thread was the best thing I did!

bjonesreborn · 03/08/2018 12:28

cobblestones i’m So sorry. It’s so unfair. Take time to look after yourself and your oh. Do you have a follow up appt booked? I’m not sure about fet but with fresh they advise you to have at least one natural period after the failed one before you go again.
35counting hope those follicles soon catch up, it’s amazing how much they can change between scans. Not sure if it helps at all but I have a hot water bottle on my
Tummy at night (in this weather I know is madness) whilst i’m Watching tv, I’ve heard it helps.
Hi A280 and good luck. These threads are really helpful.

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 03/08/2018 13:35

@cobblestones So sorry to hear your news, sending you the biggest hugs. There is not really the words to justify this kind of situation, it is beyond cruel that any of us have to go through all of this to achieve something that should be the most natural thing in the world.

I did ask the nurse what happens in this situation yesterday, she advised that they make you have a full cycle break to get rid of all the meds and hormones from your system. Then you can start again with your frozen on the cycle after.
She said a frozen cycle is much simpler process, there are only two drugs, one of which is a tablet. The meds being so much cheaper too.

Have your clinic given you any advice?

This whole journey is such an emotional roller coaster, but being the people we are means we will never give up hope, even if sometimes you feel like it, which I think you need to let yourself feel, be upset, have a good cry because it is beyond cruel and unfair the emotions we are having to feel!!! But then reality comes back and we all know that miracles happen everyday, just feels like ours is a longer climb. xXx

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 03/08/2018 13:41

@A280 Welcome, thats how I felt when i joined, so lovely to talk freely with people who understand xx

A280 · 03/08/2018 15:50

Thank you lovely ladies for such a warm welcome! Fingers crossed for us all xx

Cobblestones · 03/08/2018 16:15

@35counting @positivethinking @bjones @elaydee @springbok thank you for your kind words and for the advice. The hospital offers free counselling so I’m going to take that up.

I wish all of you the best. I might log in now and then to see how everyone’s doing but might be less active atleast for a few days while I decide what I want to do next. Baby dust to all ✨✨

A280 · 03/08/2018 17:12

@cobblestones so sorry to hear the sad news. Take care of your self xx

35counting · 03/08/2018 18:19

Welcome @A280, I’m also on my first round of ICSI, about 3 weeks in now I think, just finished my first week of stims and it’s not been fun, had another killer headache all day today.

I have however just done my first double injection on my own as DH is on a stag do. I really don’t like the pens, it’s such an odd angle to administer yourself and mine seems to stop halfway before pushing in again?! Prolonging the pain! I’m bleeding a bit but I think I did the two too close together and that’s what caused it, oops.

Thanks for the tip @bjonesreborn, I’m going to try hot water bottles. I also restocked on all of my natural supplements, will give anything a go!

I have been so busy worrying about over stimulating that I didn’t even contemplate not responding well, particularly when my levels are not the issue. My friend who had 6 rounds of ivf tells me that it happened quite a lot to her and that it just takes longer to get there (but get there she did) so here’s hoping.

We have a big party tomorrow which will be difficult without drinking. My excuse is that I’m driving but there will no doubt be questions as I am usually the bigger drinker out of the two of us. I’m going to use the diet as an explanation and hopefully people will buy it. I don’t want everyone thinking I’m pregnant! 🙄

A280 · 03/08/2018 18:38

@35counting sorry that the injections are being such a pain! Literally! I read that maybe you can use some numbing cream to ease the sensation- check if it’s recomme and might be worth a shot? Also have a warm bath (not hot after) to help relax.

My initial ultrasound is on Monday and that’s when I will start the stimulation injections (short protocol). I’m generally ok with needles so hoping poking my self is going to be bearable.

I’m really worried about weight gain. Does any one have tips on how to control this side effect.

Also has anyone ever had egg transfer under an anesthesia? I got really nervous before all 3 iui when they put the giant forces clamps to hold things open and want to be super relaxed this time.

Also worried about having a full bladder during egg transfer as I have the weakest bladder (sorry tmi!)

Elaydee · 03/08/2018 20:08

@35counting perhaps you can have a drink in hand and have a few sips? Pour bits out when you have the chance? My friend who had IVF with twins had just had a breast biopsy which came back clear the day she started IVF. She drank while stimming because of this and all worked out well... so a sip or two for show is surely ok! I’ve had a wine tonight ;)

Elaydee · 03/08/2018 20:38

Just wanted to add that I had read elsewhere women asking if sides matter when injecting.... I inject only on my right and my left is responding more than my right. I’m lagging a day or two which is sad... but hoping my body catches up! Have a nice weekend all x

Cobblestones · 04/08/2018 03:18

Ladies I have this terrible nagging thought at 3 am that I can’t shake off. My test date was 9 days post 5 day transfer. Since I Tested neg in the morning on a first response I stopped all progesterone. And now nearly 20 hours later I’m thinking is there a Chance it was too early? No right?

35counting · 04/08/2018 07:28

It’s certainly a possibility although I don’t think stopping the progesterone would necessarily effect the test result. Maybe give it a few days and test again?

Elaydee · 04/08/2018 08:35

@cobblestones there is always a slim chance. Perhaps test again in a few days? Does stopping progesterone let your cycle start again if it's a definite negative?

Trying2bemum · 04/08/2018 09:02

Hi everyone, I'm 34, been TTC 2.5 years, explained infertility two fresh cycles of IVF (one NHS one private) and both BFN.

Currently having a break and trying to prep for a third cycle. Got the Zita West IVF diet book but I've been trying to follow the principles rather than exact recipes so far. Taking Wild Nutrition fertility supplements and ubiquinol, DH takes proxeed (when I nag him )

@Cobblestones my OTD was 9dp5dt too and stopped all meds when it was negative. It gave me a bit of anxiety too but it's conclusive at that point xx

@gingergnome congratulations, hope you have a nice smooth pregnancy Smile

CupcakeVampire · 04/08/2018 09:14

Sorry to hear your news @Cobblestones.

Hi @A280 I was in the same boat as you before my first cycle and had never seen a positive pregnancy test ever. It certainly was surreal when I finally did, though ultimately it wasn’t to be.

I have that Zita West book too @Trying2bemum, but I gave up as the recipes were too weird for my taste and we never did like the few that I did make. I’m sticking to a low carb, wheat free diet at the moment, more to lose weight that anything else as my weight has fluctuated since being on fertility meds on and off for the whole year.

Sunny1984 · 04/08/2018 09:32

@Cobblestones I’m so sorry it wasn’t the news you wanted, this whole process is such a rollercoaster. Sending you lots of love xx

@35counting, again this whole process is so full of ups and downs. I’m expecting a similar thing to happen to me on Monday but they have no where to go with the dose as it max now!
I was told a pint of milk a day can help and a high protein diet. My friend had the same thing, she was pissed off with all by then her wife ordered them a dominos and a bottle or red wine! Next scan everything was looking much better!!

@Elaydee how was the cetrodide in the end? What needle is it?!! How was your scan?

Welcome @A280 and @Trying2bemum this is a lovely supportive thread. So needed when going through IVF, makes the world of difference to have people that understand!

Cobblestones · 04/08/2018 09:48

This really is a lovely thread. Thank you for the responses. That really helped especially knowing it was the OTD for atleast one other person.

Trying2bemum · 04/08/2018 12:09

@Cobblestones I meant to say - I'm so very sorry it was negative also, it really hurts like hell. Hope you're looking after yourself xx

Trying2bemum · 04/08/2018 12:11

@CupcakeVampire I know how you feel - I've spent the best part of 9 months on IVF drugs, it feels good to be having a break right now. Some of the recipes in that book are realistically not gonna happen - too many weird ingredients! I'm trying for low carb, high protein and trying to up fruit, vegetables and water. That said, I had a Thai takeaway last night with my sister and a glass of fizz oops
