IVF July/August 2018

Hey,

So like the title says really is anyone about to start an IVF cycle in July or August?

This is my first cycle and I’m excited/petrified!!! I would love to have some cycle buddies to chat to and for support. It’s all self funded as due to the postcode lottery we get no NHS cycles.

Just a little background. I’m 34, have been TTC for 2 and a bit years now, initial diagnosis PCOS and I had 7 cycles of Clomid which resulted in me falling pregnant in December but sadly I had a MMC at 11 weeks. I have since been diagnosed with endometriosis following an unexpectedly low AMH result. My right ovary is has a significant cyst.

I have an endometrial scratch on Monday and will begin down reg on Monday night. I’m a nurse so have no fear of needles but not sure how I’ll manage with injecting myself.

Really hope to have some company on this journey xxx

@Elaydee my options were to go for ivf or have a laparoscopy first, I've decided to go for the laparoscopy which is October. Oh that's good news if there isn't a wait. What's transport ivf (sorry new to this) ???

Elaydee · 08/09/2018 10:36

@maximoo06 I was given the same options but went straight for IVF. Under different circumstances I would have had laparoscopic investigations, but I’ve had that surgery twice and didn’t want any more scarring! I’m starting to look like a pin board.

Transport IVF where your partner or chosen person takes your eggs to King’s College Hospital while you recover and they then provide a sample or use they selected donor sperm to fertalise there. They don’t fertalised on site at Kingston. Also your transfer is at Kings, not Kingston.

Maximoo06 · 08/09/2018 16:16

@Elaydee are the scars bad from it?
Just been reading up on transport ivf it sounds stressful Confused
Did you get your BFP from first round?

aandre26 · 08/09/2018 16:31

Ladies can i ask your opinions/advice please.

So as you know we requested transfer because we werent overly happy at or currently clinic.
I have spoken to the clinic that we want to move to and theyve checked the ccg and said we would have to get a referral from our GP, but they do accept patients from or area.
My GP has written a referral and will check up with him whats happening on Monday.
But we received a letter from the gyno who referred us initially for ivf telling me that they cant send us to Care because they dont accept patients from up here.....
Im confused as to who to believe and if its worth carrying on trying to move clinics.
What would you do?

Elaydee · 08/09/2018 19:19

@Maximoo06 No not awful. It’s a small line down your belly button, about an inch, and two small incisions around your hips, about the size of a pea. I just don’t like the belly button one and I have two side by side so it makes it look bigger.

Transport IVF is more effort on the mans side... but it’s about time they did something 😜 Yes BFP first try, but lots more hurdles to come still.

Elaydee · 08/09/2018 21:10

@aandre26 I would say the clinic knows best who they can accept. Keep digging though.

We’re you with a hospital before and you want to go to Care the private clinic? Perhaps it’s a funding thing? Can you ask for a list of alternative clinics that you can go to? Sorry this is so frustrating for you and not straight forward. Grrrrr!

Maximoo06 · 08/09/2018 21:34

@Elaydee okay thank you. Hope everything works out well for you Smile

aandre26 · 09/09/2018 14:44

Thank you @Elaydee
Im just confused and hate the stress of this side of things.
It winds me up at the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. As if IVF isnt stressful enough without people not knowing facts etc.

Elaydee · 09/09/2018 16:16

@aandre26 Can you request a call or a meeting with the person who referred you and have a list of questions ready. Or can you ask to speak to someone at your current clinic and maybe you’ll feel a bit more reassured?

One thing I’ve learnt in this whole process is that if you aren’t pushy you won’t get what you want. Don’t be afraid to be, because it’s such an important event in your life!

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 10/09/2018 15:39

@elaydee I was sooooo bloody happy when I read the out come of your scan. To hear the heart beat must of just been the icing on the cake! I bet you truly are walking around on cloud 9😍😍

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 10/09/2018 16:03

Had my EC this morning it went fine, back home now and not really in any pain.
So they collected.....28 EGGS!! No wonder I was feeling bloated.
Anything above 25 eggs the automatically say you have to freeze your eggs for this cycle and do a FET on my next cycle as I am at a really high risk of OHSS.
So I've been signed off for the week, all I'm aloud to do is drink water and my exercise is walking to and from the toilet. I have a scan on Weds and Friday for them to check me.
I can not lie I am devastated to not be able to do a fresh transfer this cycle as I was so excited to finally getting there, so the thought of having to freeze and then wait is so annoying it always feel like your waiting! So we are on the 5 day wait to see if the eggs fertilse and see if any make it to say 5!

aandre26 · 10/09/2018 16:23

Sorry to hear that you have to freeze @PostiveThinkingRainbow
But wow. Thats a lot of eggs! Fingers crossed they fertilise! Wish you a speedy recovery and take time to relax! Wont be long before fet x x x

Elaydee · 10/09/2018 17:08

@positivethinkingrainbow Thank you! To early to hear it, but saw a little flickering light. I wish I could be on cloud 9... previous loss really ruins the magic of it all.

Wowsers!!!! 28 eggs!!!!! As disappointing as you must feel waiting, you must be thrilled with that result! Even at 50% fertalisation, that would still be double my EC! In fact you have x4 eggs collected than I did! Rest up and the countdown is on!

aandre26 · 10/09/2018 23:06

Do any of you ladies take supplements?
X

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 11/09/2018 08:53

@elaydee well you are definitely on the right path 😍 I'm so happy for and look forward to hearing how that bump develop.

Talking of bumps I am so bloated I honestly look pregnant!
I'm just nervously waiting for the clinic to call to see if any of our eggs fertiliser!

@aandre26 we could be on the same time line now?
I take Pregnacare Conception and Omega 3 fish oil capsules.
Any news on your situation?

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 11/09/2018 09:56

PostiveThinkingRainbow

The clinic just called to say that 18 out of the 28 eggs have fertilised, so fingers crossed that some of them make it to day 5! IVF should be called the waiting game.....!

aandre26 · 11/09/2018 11:59

Fingers crossed they make day 5 @PostiveThinkingRainbow
I think we will be on similar dates, potentially you will be ahead of me i think.

Im still in the waiting game, just waiting to see what is happening with referral not sure when we will hear about that but fingers crossed soon.
Going to up my supplements game, ive read coq10 is meant to be good,
Currently only taking folic acid with vit d (pregnacare liquid as i react to the tablets for some reason)
But not sure what else to add thats safe x x

Elaydee · 11/09/2018 13:24

@positivethinkingrainbow that’s a great result, congrats!!

@aandre26 I was only taking Folic with D from boots for months. I started TTC with pregnacare and after a while I realised I probably didn’t need it all as doctors didn’t think there was a difference. I’m now back on pregnacare because I had already bought it in previous pregnancies but when it runs out in a few days I’ll be taking the boots version. I personally don’t think it matters as long as you’re taking folic.

A280 · 11/09/2018 17:51

Its been a tough week. Accepting failed ivf really is an emotional rollercoaster! Ive had hives as a result of the im progesterone. The side effects continue even after stopping all meds! I have an appointment with the consultant on Thursday to see what next.

@positive mthinkingrainbow thats an amazing number. Fingers crosswd they grow. Hope the bloating is subsiding!

@aandre ive taken so many supplements but am on a full detox this month. Ive taken alpha alpha, chlorophyll liquid, omega 3, folic acid, combination of conception vitamins, chinese herbal medicine, indian herbal medicine and anti oxidant drink! Im just going to continue with the folic and anti ocidant (coq10). Im considering dhea but unsure so waiting for consultant to advice.

Most of these were prescribed by a fertility nutritionist. Not sure if it helped . But my husband was given a mix of things and motility increased from 4% to 85% in 3 months!

aandre26 · 11/09/2018 21:59

@A280
I honestly think that with Private ivf they offer a lot more information. We asked what we could take for low mobility and low amh and she simply told me theres nothing.
She even told me its an age thing, which to a certain degree i understand, however im hardly over the hill at 30.....

The one supplement i was considering what coq10, but wasnt sure of dosage, and boots were selling 30 tablets (200g) for £30 and wasnt sure if thats normal.
Im only taking folic acid with vit d in liquid form atm.
But really want to boost my egg quality and reserve.

Me aside how are you coping? Xx

I'm currently waiting to go for ivf once I've got my bmi under thirty, I'm currently going on a exercise bike for half an hour in the day and hour at night. I'm also eating healthier like salads etc but don't seem to be looking like I'm loosing anything. What would people suggest

Hi @Shannon9421
Its a difficult one to advise on in my opinion.
Obviously diet plays a big part into it. But maybe if you can join a gym and up your cardio work out. Or instead of just a bike, go running. Be strict and firm with yourself and cut out all the bad stuff and you will get there. Keep reminding yourself of your end goal! Good Luck.

ckc45d10 · 12/09/2018 14:23

Yes, diet and lifestyle changes may be key (but, check with your healthcare provider when beginning new regimens). I like this research article for some tips: fertilityresearchandpractice.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s40738-015-0003-4

aandre26 · 13/09/2018 16:18

@A280 hello. How are you doing??
Can i ask what dosage of coq10 you take? And where do you buy it from??
