IVF July/August 2018

Hey,

So like the title says really is anyone about to start an IVF cycle in July or August?

This is my first cycle and I’m excited/petrified!!! I would love to have some cycle buddies to chat to and for support. It’s all self funded as due to the postcode lottery we get no NHS cycles.

Just a little background. I’m 34, have been TTC for 2 and a bit years now, initial diagnosis PCOS and I had 7 cycles of Clomid which resulted in me falling pregnant in December but sadly I had a MMC at 11 weeks. I have since been diagnosed with endometriosis following an unexpectedly low AMH result. My right ovary is has a significant cyst.

I have an endometrial scratch on Monday and will begin down reg on Monday night. I’m a nurse so have no fear of needles but not sure how I’ll manage with injecting myself.

Really hope to have some company on this journey xxx

Sunny1984 · 09/08/2018 14:29

Amazing news @SparklyShelle I’m sure the next 6 weeks will fly by!

Good luck for EC tomorrow @Elaydee and @35counting. When was your last dose of Stims?

Thank you @PositiveThinkingRainbow and @Sunny1984, I am very nervous but friends who have been through it have said it’s really not too bad.

I could do with some positive thinking @PositiveThinkingRainbow so may try the podcast tonight. As our friends had so many attempts before being successful I’m kind of expecting the worst whilst hoping for the best.

Relieving to hear @Elaydee, mines been normal so far but loads today, gross!

Last stims were last night @Sunny1984, normal time before the midnight trigger. How are your follicles doing now? Have you been scanning every other day too?

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 09/08/2018 16:33

Good luck for your EC tomorrow, that has all happened so fast @Elaydee keeping everything crossed for you and @35counting xxx

SENDING YOU BOTH POSITIVE VIBES!!!!!

@35counting only hope for the best you deserve it xxx

I am so jealous its not my EC tomorrow and I have still got to wait till 3rd September.

I go in for my trial transfer on the 24th August so that is the next big thing for us.

xxxx

aandre26 · 09/08/2018 16:42

@Elaydee @35counting good luck for ec tomorrow!! Positive vibes to you both!!! Fingers crossed x x

Springb0ks · 09/08/2018 16:54

@35counting yes, the discharge thing- loads! Happened to me on a walk the other day and I literally had to waddle home! Grin Not long now for you and @elaydee, how are you both feeling?

Had my egg collection confirmed for next Wednesday. I'm terrified!

gingergnome · 09/08/2018 18:14

The thread’s moved on loads since I last visited!
Good luck with your EC @Elaydee and @35counting, congrats @Springb0ks! I promise you all @35’s friends are right & it’s far less scary than what ever you might be imagining 🙂 Mind you, I had Wonder Woman knickers bought specially for the day to make me feel braver, which definitely helped 😂

@Sunny1984 I only had the 4 that were big enough - quality not quantity! FX for you!
Thanks @SparklyShelle & congrats/good luck for getting the green light! So exciting!

AFM - after being so (relatively) calm during my 2WW I’ve now gone completely neurotic! ‘Viability’ scan next week (just me or a dreadfully clinical term? That’s MY longed for bean they’re talking about!). Lovely to hear all your exciting updates! So much positivity on here 😍

Elaydee · 09/08/2018 20:06

Thanks all 😘 good luck to everyone starting soon or EC in the next week!! Fingers crossed for us all!

@sunny1984 last dose was Wednesday lunch. I wasn’t supposed to have it that day at all but they thought I’d benefit from one last boost. Then trigger that night. Was lovely not having to do anything today Grin

I haven’t prepared any sort of clothes or entertainment for tomorrow... should I??

gingergnome, yay for first scan! x

SparklyShelle · 09/08/2018 23:07

You ladies are amazing!! Isn’t it strange that we all just have accepted this and are in such a positive frame of mind...albeit absolutely terrified but positive nonetheless!

Thank you for all the lovely messages. I decided to offload to a friend today and felt a huge weight lift off my shoulders - not telling DH as he’s just a bit manly about it all...me on the other hand need like to dissect everything in 400 languages!! 😂

Good luck to everyone on EC - that part makes me feel sick BUT like you say @gingergnome I’m sure it’s not half as bad as we’re all anticipating!! One of my worries - being so doped up I talk bull and mortify myself even more but this time with 4 faces in between my legs 😂😂😂😂

Anyways...on that note...sending positive vibes to everyone whichever stage you’re at ⭐️💛⭐️💛 x

35counting · 10/08/2018 07:45

Morning all, it’s D Day (or actually EC day) for me and @Elaydee, didn’t sleep well worrying about it and even tried the Izzy Judd podcast and the pre EC ivf mindfulness.

Thank you all for the well wishes!

Lovely to hear from @gingergnome, I know the “viability” terminology is not good but when I had mine it really put my mind at ease. Saying that you can’t really see anything at this early stage but they will be able to tell if there is anything wrong and how high up the embryo has implanted. Hope all goes well.

@Elaydee my guidance booklet says to take a nightie, dressing gown and slippers and a snack for afterwards (as I’m nil by mouth). I finally found a nightie I can live with and have put out a plain dressing gown and new slippers too so at least I feel presentable even when I’m semi conscious! I’ve also got some of my favourite cakes to take as a snack afterwards as, above anything, I’ll provably manage to eat those. May take a book for the wait too but not thought about anything else. Good luck @Elaydee, I’m right behind you!

aandre26 · 10/08/2018 08:39

Good Morning ladies.

Good luck on ec once again!! Think of you both today!!

I feel selfish in asking a this when theres more important topics. But ive started to come down with a cold (sore throat) i dont really want to be taking paracetamol etc.
Would they cancel egg collection if im ill? Any advice on what to take that wont harm our chances.

Thank you in advance.
X

Elaydee · 10/08/2018 09:34

Thanks everyone 😘

@35counting good luck today!! Don’t be nervous. Have you ever gone under before? Is that what they’re doing for you? I like to see it as a very deep nap and the only time you’ll be totally doted on for a few days Grin

So the nurse here said we wear a gown they provide and because it’s so warm there is no need for all the extras... but I did print slippers and socks!!

@aandre26 could it be all your injections causing your throat? Whenever I introduced a new one my throat glands flared a little.

aandre26 · 10/08/2018 09:39

@Elaydee im not sure if it is the injections...my husband has been in the last few days so i put it down to him being ever so kind and sharing his germs 🤔
Did you take anything for it ? Or did it settle on its own?
X

SparklyShelle · 10/08/2018 11:34

Good luck @elaydee and @gingergnome we’re all thi king of you today!!

@aandre26 try drinking honey and lemon in boiling water and a warm menthol bath? X

Springb0ks · 10/08/2018 12:03

Good luck @35coubting and @elaydee, we're rooting for you! @aandre26, lots of rest for you and plenty of vitamin c Flowers

Elaydee · 10/08/2018 12:08

All done! All very easy, so those with it coming up don’t worry at all!

Having a lovely chat with the other ladies in recovery and should be home in a couple of hours! About 15 mins of period pains and it’s eased off!

Everyone will be different with recovery but it’s nothing to be afraid of xx

Springb0ks · 10/08/2018 13:04

@elaydee, well done! So glad to hear it went well for you and it was nothing to be frightened off, you've helped calm my fears a little. Thank you.

aandre26 · 10/08/2018 13:06

@Elaydee so pleased to hear your not in discomfort and all went well!

@Springb0ks @SparklyShelle honey and hot water isnt doing the trick this time. Just going to have to ride it out. Good thing is i dont feel ill, just sore throat.

First scan tomorrow which is Day 8 for us. Lets hope theres plenty for them to count. My AMH was stupidly low when they tested so im not sure if that will go against us or not.
Fingers crossed though x

SparklyShelle · 10/08/2018 13:31

Oops I meant to say good luck to @35andcounting! Although @gingergnome I’m sure the extra luck won’t go a miss for something or other 💫🤦🏽‍♀️

Ah that’s a shame @aandre26! Hope it passes soon - eat chocolate and drink tea then! Hope the scan goes well tomorrow!

That’s amazing @Elaydee!!! Thank you for your update whilst in recovery!! Fingers and toes firmly crossed for you! 💫

Elaydee · 10/08/2018 13:36

Got a surprising less than expected 7 eggs. Still ok with that though. I was told most likely 10 and I had 23 follicles... fingers crossed!!!!

A280 · 10/08/2018 14:32

I had my oestradiol test and ultrasound scan today- day 5 of stimulation. Theres only 3 follicles in each ovary! Cant believe theres only 6 follicles!! Havent felt this low before!

SparklyShelle · 10/08/2018 14:45

Aww @A280 try not to be disheartened- remember you only need a magic one! My friend only had 2 and ended up with only 1 egg that looked good enough - wasn’t even described as perfect or great...she now has a 3 month old precious baby girl! Remember - you only need 1 ⭐️💛 xx

Elaydee · 10/08/2018 15:12

A280 the lady next to me today had 5 in one ovary and none in the other at the end of her stimms for collection today and the nurses were really positive about it.

Despite what you read in forums my husband was told today that the average woman has about 4 collected! There are always extremes of that, like one egg or 30 eggs!

Sunny1984 · 10/08/2018 15:43

@Elaydee so pleased it went well! And 7 eggs is amazing 💫

@A280 I know exactly how you feel, on day 7 I only had 4 and I was already on max dose so nothing they could do! I was heartbroken all day Monday and really thought they would cancel when you hear how many everyone else has. I went back today which is day 11 and I have a quite few more that are small but still there and growing and 4 that are good size. We are going ahead with EC Monday. I still would have liked more but the nurse today was adamant I shouldn’t cancel and she really is all about quality or quantity and it is just one magic egg we need!!
Just try and stay positive (really should practice what I preach 🤣) it’s out of control. All they said to me was keep drinking lots of water, high protein and ideally 1 pint of full fat milk a day. Sorry that was so long!!

How did you get on @35counting?

OP posts:
35counting · 10/08/2018 16:36

Thanks for all the well wishes ladies, lots of ups and downs today:

  1. good news is I survived, bad news is we had a 3 hour wait to get in which was painful!
  2. bad news is we only got 4 eggs, good news is that we’ve got DH’s swimmers up to a decent standard so it’s going to be ivf rather than ICSI!
  3. Hilarious news is DH passed out when I had the cannula put in! 😂 Lord knows how he’ll cope if we ever do have a baby!

I am hope, feeling a little sore and woozy but otherwise OK, I was initially terrified going into theatre and thought I was going to cry but the drugs kicked in quick and I was out for the count throughout!

I was glad of the robe and slippers as the clinic was really cold today but didn’t come close to wearing the nightie! May take it back!

@aandre I had a bit of a cold and they weren’t at all bothered. Have taken cocodamol for the stim headaches though, apparently pracetamol and codeine are ok. I’ve just avoided them this week in the run up to EC.

Don’t be downhearted @A280, if your 6 all grow you will be fine. It’s quality and not quantity remember!
