Do I REALLY have to wait 14 days after transfer?!

I had two embryos transferred (5 day blasts using donor eggs) six days ago (Tuesday 29th May) and the waiting is AGONY. I'm under strict instructions from my clinic to test on day 14 post-transfer, but DH will be away for work on test day. Naturally I'd much prefer him to be with me, but prolonging the agony for two additional days until he returns will be so hard!

Could I test on the evening of day 12 and get an accurate result? Or should I either test by myself on day 14 or wait until day 16 when DH is back?

I would probably do all 3!
Would not be able to resist. Smile

RedPandaFluff · 03/06/2018 13:37

Haha Downey - I'm trying to ignore the evil little voice in my head that's telling me I'll jinx myself if I don't follow the clinic's instructions - I'm such a conformist . . . Grin

I'd test before he goes. 12 days post transfer is still the equivalent of something like 17dpo??

BettyBaggins · 03/06/2018 13:39

12 days vs 14 days? How could you not try on day 12! Grin

eurochick · 03/06/2018 13:42

I think the issue with testing early is if the clinic gave you hcg around transfer it can still be in your system, giving a false positive. A lot of people, me included, test out the hcg given as part of the process so they know if levels go up again it is a true positive.

frasier · 03/06/2018 13:44

Yes, the hcg thing can mess up results.

I tested as early as I possibly thought possible though! And many times.

RedPandaFluff · 03/06/2018 13:46

No hcg, Eurochick, so if there's any hcg in my system it will be from pregnancy rather than trigger shots or anything like that. Meds with donor egg IVF are minimal - oestrogen and progesterone.

Oh crap. I think I'm going to test on day 12. I'm such a rebel Grin

I wouldn't be able to wait haha

frasier · 03/06/2018 13:50

I think I would have tested already lol!

Pez82 · 03/06/2018 13:53

I got my BFP on 6dp5dt so the equivalent of 11dpo. I just had a strong feeling something was up as I had felt the implantation earlier in the week, peed on an opk in the morning (as it also defects hcg) and when I saw the line was quite dark I waited for 3h and tested on Superdrug early response test (as didn't want to waste my FRERs). The line came up really quickly and there was a good line on the FRER the following day. My HCG levels were 188 at 14 days post egg retrieval.

It's so so hard to wait! Best of luck

distantstars · 03/06/2018 14:14

We tested a day early and it showed a BFP. Just have to remember if you do test early and it's negative , don't lose heart. All the luck in the world to you xxx

RedPandaFluff · 03/06/2018 15:00

Oh Pez now you've got me thinking I could test today Grin

I won't, though, I'll be strong - will wait another week and test next Sunday which will be day 12.
And just hope the POAS gods are looking after me . . .

I got a very clear positive (including on a digital) at 9dp5dt ...

mplINsTA · 03/06/2018 15:14

I got an accurate result 3 days after 5 day transfer....

BUT don't test if you're only going to wind yourself up!

FilledSoda · 03/06/2018 15:16

If the embryos are 3 days old then on a 28 day cycle your period would be due 11 days post transfer, so that's when you can test.
The hospital are advising 14 days because your period would actually be late by that time.
This has been my experience over 4 treatments.

Good luck OP.

Pez82 · 03/06/2018 15:51

Also, I've just remembered that if it was a frozen transfer it can take a bit longer for the embryos to get going and fully implant so the longer you wait the better! Easier said than done though 😉

RedPandaFluff · 03/06/2018 16:45

Ooooooo it was a fresh transfer at 5 days, so that means I can definitely test earlier, right? Grin

Let us know when you test!

You have more willpower than me!

Good luck!

(Test!)

FilledSoda · 03/06/2018 21:03

Sorry I didn't read your op carefully enough, yes so you are two days ahead.
Please don't get too built up, it's an absolute head melt .
I really hope it works out for you.

RedPandaFluff · 03/06/2018 21:12

Thanks for the good luck wishes - it IS a total head-melt; I've become very positive over the last few days which is very unlike me. I'm almost assuming I'm pregnant . . . which means I'm in danger of being shocked and devastated if I'm not . . .

I'll definitely come back and let you all know once I've POAS Thanks

Please do!

fabulous01 · 03/06/2018 23:45

This is from 6 ivf cycles....

Most I bled early. Once I didn’t and got to the day before test and ... I tested positive. I was elated. Next day in test day ... it was negative

I learnt my lesson

Enjoy the stage of being pregnant. And that is the stage you are now in.

I now have twins aged 3 so I got there in end. Good luck

Oh and be careful which tests you use.

Scottishgirl85 · 04/06/2018 09:40

I tested every day from 5dp5dt and got a bfn with possible squinters that my husband couldn't see. I obsessed and spent hours staring at them trying to see if there was a line. I used a frer on 9dp5dt and got a very strong bfp. Lesson learned - don't test too early and don't use cheapies!! I spent days being distraught for no reason. I think 9dp5dt would almost always show positive if you're pregnant. Good luck xx

Hi OP. I recently got a BFP after our FET cycle. I tested at 5dp5dt and got a faint line. Next morning got a clear line on a FRER and by 7dp5dt the line was dark. Clinic said to test anyway on official test day (which for me was 12dp5dt), so I did a Clearblue digital then and it said 1-2 weeks.

On a previous cycle I got a v v faint BFP on a FRER at 7dp5dt which got darker the next day but then sadly faded and became negative by official test day.
