Trying to conceive baby#2 following ivf treatment for #1

I thought I would start this thread as I can't see anything similar. We underwent many rounds of icsi and following a couple of bfns, and an ectopic pregnancy we were finally blessed with our beautiful daughter last year.

We recently started thinking about baby no 2 and had 4 frozen embryos of which 2 had been tested and found to be chromosomally normal so are meant to have a better chance. We didnt have the other 2 tested.

A couple of weeks back we had our first fet with one of the tested embryos and got a bfp super early at 4dp5dt. Sadly by 8dpt the line was barely visible and resulted in a chemical pregnancy. I've been feeling really down about it as this was meant to be a super duper embryo with no genetic problems which they said was the main reason embryos fail.

I thought it would be easier trying for #2 and of course it is in a way as I realise how lucky I am to have had a baby but I can feel the infertility fog starting to descend again as I realise although I've had a brief respite I will never be like my fertile friends and I do really want another baby and a sibling for my little girl.

Im feeling a bit negative at the moment. We will probably go back for the other tested embryo in the near future but I can't see how I would ever get lucky enough to get 2 bfps in a row. These things just don't happen to me so just not too hopeful about it at all. We said that if we used all of our frosties with no success we would be happy with what we have but already I am thinking should I do more fresh cycles. I will be 39 soon though so time isn't on my side for that.

Anyway just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation and would like to share the journey. Please come and say hi.

Am sure it won’t hurt. I think a lot of the monitoring is to check levels aren’t getting too high (which is an ohss risk) which obv isn’t a concern in frozen cycles.

lucieloos · 07/04/2018 09:11

Yes that's what I just read. A high level of estrogen can adversely affect a cycle which is why fets are sometimes carried out rather than fresh so I'm sure it's fine but might do an extra one just incase for a little while.

Hi I did manage to sleep, it's being awake that's the crap part.

lucieloos · 07/04/2018 11:03

Aww hope you're ok twinkle it's so hard. Thinking of you.

I've been burping all week and today not burped at all Sad, even after having lemonade at lunchtime. Taking that as a bad sign. Have also had a pain in my left-hand side.

lucieloos · 08/04/2018 19:09

Oh no have you done anymore tests to see if they are getting lighter or darker? You need to be monitored quite carefully as if the hcg doesn't go down then it could indicate ectopic if it's slow rising. I had one unfortunately. My tests were getting darker but hcg wasn't rising as it should.

twinkle hang in there. It's not over yet! Sending positive thoughts...

twinkledag · 08/04/2018 19:33

Thank you @Jenbot78

I took a test on Friday but haven't taken one since. The line was still quite dark.

Did you lose a tube @lucieloos?

lucieloos · 08/04/2018 19:51

No because my levels were low they were able to treat me with methotrexate which is an injection which dissolves everything. Hopefully it won't be the case for you though but just saying it's important to have regular monitoring especially if you have left sided pain.

What should I do? I have a blood test tomorrow at 10am but it's at a scan and bloods centre not the hospital. Do you think I could ask for a scan too?

lucieloos · 08/04/2018 20:07

They won't see anything on a scan as your hcg level is too low. It needs to be at least 3000 to see anything. You just need to get your bloods monitored every couple of days until you know what's happening. I expect if your clinic think it's necessary they will advise you to go to epu. So sorry you are going through this.

Let's see what the clinic says after the blood result tomorrow.
Thanks @lucieloos Thanks

lucieloos · 08/04/2018 20:20

No problem really hoping for the best for you.

Fingers crossed tomorrow’s beta is positive, twinkle. Echoing what lucie said - it is way too early to see anything on a scan.

lucie I can’t believe you had an ectopic. You have had horrible luck Angry. Fingers crossed your little embie is burrowing in tight right now.

I think I’m ovulating today. Got a pram high on opk and feeling it too. Which means period in 2 weeks so a fortnight until we go again!

twinkledag · 08/04/2018 22:21

I echo snowy's good wishes @lucieloos. 🤞

Not long to say @Snowdayfet Thanks

Snowdayfet · 08/04/2018 22:23

Pram = peak Grin

twinkledag · 08/04/2018 22:32

I did wonder what you meant Grin

twinkledag · 08/04/2018 22:32

And I meant to say 'not long to go'!

lucieloos · 09/04/2018 08:16

Thanks both. Yeah it was a long old road the first time which is why I don't really expect this time around to be any different. Had some very mild cramping the last couple of days and have been quiet tired but woke up today and don't feel anything at all. I know it's early but I'm not overly optimistic.

Eeekk very excited for you snow not long to go at all!

Oh it’s so hard lucie. So hoping it works out for you. Hoping for good news for you too twinkle.

So I just got back the results of the blood tests I had done last week - just paid for some private ones. My TSH is 2.5 - am thinking I might need to bring this down? Also my cd8 cells were highly raised - no idea what that means but doesn’t sound good. I guess I’m having the immunes next time round anyway but wondering if I should have some more antibiotics etc. Have sent them onto my clinic for advice Confused

twinkledag · 09/04/2018 11:53

Which clinic are you with @Snowdayfet?

I don't know re your results tbh X

Snowdayfet · 09/04/2018 11:57

The Lister plus I am paying (again) privately to see an independent doctor associated with them as the clinic are good but you need to keep on top of them otherwise they get a bit conveyor-belt ish!

Did you go for your beta?

lucieloos · 09/04/2018 12:07

Oh that's interesting snow you definitely need to bring your tsh down it sound be under 1.5 ideally and the day 8 stuff would relate to immunes so guess you need the intralipids, pred etc. I took antibiotics this time as I had the hidden c tests done at serum in Greece. Not sure if I believe in it all but I try to take antibiotics for around a week before transfer to to make sure there are no infections which might hinder implantation.

Oh I also double checked my estrogen with my clinic and turns out they use a different measurement there and my result was actually around 350 in uk units. They did say it doesn't matter what it is after transfer though so long as the lining has thickened enough so feel happier about that now.

Good luck for today twinkle

Yes I’ve sent the results through to my doctor so hopefully he’ll prescribe thyroxine. Don’t know how long it takes to work but hopefully quite quickly!

That’s a relief re your estrogen.

twinkledag · 09/04/2018 13:59

Thank you both but the results came back as 55 which isn't good.
