Fertility treatment- IUI

Hi, has anyone had IUI fertility treatment? We've been TTC for 3 years now. Had all the tests. We have a consultation tomorrow at the hospital about moving forward with treatment and we've been given an indication that IUI may be the best option to try first before IVF.

I'm just wondering if there's anyone out there who has been through this or is going through this.

Thanks

Csds - do you feel anything other than the hot flashes?

I had very soar boobs for a few days and that kind of got my hopes up that something may be happening but as of this morning I have this sinking feeling that nothing is going on.....

I'm looking forward to taking a break. Taking a break will mean resuming from Jan as I'm travelling mid Dec. In between things can still happen I suppose as drugs can sometimes kick start the ovaries into action...

I will go to see the doc too as I don't want to be overstimulated again and really hoping there's some way he can put me on a dose lower than the single tablet he had me on.. Half a broken tablet perhaps..

Thanks cobblestones, DH has no issues, his samples have always been great so we should be ok

csds · 18/10/2017 17:32

Snowy glad to hear you scan went well and you’ve had the insemination, fingers crossed for you.

Cobblestones with the meds I’ve found I have hot flushes, a little nausea and I can get a little light headed. The hot flushes are the biggest noticeable thing for me, that and constantly feeling exhausted.

As for anything in the tww, no nothing really, a few twinges nothing like before. They are not constant and now my chin line is bursting with boils but that could easily be from stress, for a lot going on at the mo.

How about you? X

IUI done, chilling out with my feet up and trying to think fertilisey, implanty thoughts

csds · 19/10/2017 14:32

Sorry snowy I thought you had it the other day... head is frazzled. Hope it went well.

That’s it, try and relax.

I don’t know why but I’m finding that I’m quite emotional at the moment, had a cry this morning over nothing really. It’s all so draining.

On the up side I have a busy few days to help pass this tww. Cinema with the girls tonight, got to clean the house tomorrow ready for the in laws the weekend. We have them until Monday evening, so then it’s just Tuesday to get through ready for Wednesdays results.

You take injections, so do you inject for 5 days similar to clomid? X

snowy1982 · 19/10/2017 14:55

CSDS I don't take anymore injections now, I took gonal f to stimulate and then trigger, I don't take any after IUI. It went ok, they give me gas and air which makes things more bearable, but I find the whole process quite difficult. The first time I had it down privately the speculum broke inside me and it was very painful so I am always really tense with it now.

Keeping busy in the TWW is the best thing to do, I plan to start my Christmas shopping for this time.

Maybe the feeling emotional and drained is a good sign..... do you normally feel this way before AF arrives

Cobblestones · 19/10/2017 15:55

Snowy that sounds painful glad you had an easier time of it this time round..

Csds I can relate to you feeling this way. I alternate between feeling low/emotional and just numb.. I think I just need a break from it all.

csds · 19/10/2017 15:59

No I don’t normally feel like this, to be honest my cycles were a breeze, I was very lucky, no mood swings or anything but since starting treatment I’ve not exactly been myself.

I feel quite sad at the moment and I don’t know why. I didn’t feel like this last month, that said Work has been tough the past few weeks, i night just be having a moment where it’s all getting to me a bit. Even started looking at yoga & meditation retreats (and I hate yoga) but the thought of relaxing was appealing.

Christmas shopping! Good shout, yes it will will be here in no time x

csds · 19/10/2017 16:01

Cobblestones that’s exactly it, so up and down at the moment.

Gosh yes snowy your experience sounds pretty horrendous.

Cobblestones hopefully this cycle will be your cycle so that will definitely be a break from treatment for you x

OP posts:
snowy1982 · 19/10/2017 20:49

It was pretty horrific that time and unfortunately it has just made me so tense that even scans and smears are painful, the gas and air definitely helps with it Smile

Like both of you I have felt very emotional and sad lately, I put it down to the hormones. On my 2 unmediated IUI cycles I was fine, a little tense due to the whole situation, but once I started taking the hormones I got very emotional, I am close to tears all the time and the slightest wee thing sets me off.

Having a little break from things does help though, even before doing IUI we would have a had a cycle every so often when we would avoid DTD during the fertile window, it def helps

csds · 21/10/2017 21:23

Hey cobblestones, you testing this weekend?

OP posts:
Blackcatonthesofa · 21/10/2017 22:53

Yes. I am on my 6th cycle now. After this we will try ivf. I've been pregnant twice in the first five cycles but miscarried both. I didn't get pregnant that often with other treatments so it does do something.

csds · 22/10/2017 10:40

Sorry to hear about your miscarriages blackcat, what a rough journey you’re having.

Good luck for you on your final cycle

OP posts:
Cobblestones · 22/10/2017 11:30

Sorry to hear that blackcat - that must have been really difficult esp handling all the emotions that come with it. I've had two miscarriages in four years and it was the hardest thing I've had to deal with. I had to have erpc as I didn't miscarry naturally.

Csds I did test and its negative. I'm still keeping up with the meds just in case...

Hope you're holding up ok x

csds · 22/10/2017 11:43

Exactly, There’s still hope cobblestones. I’m holding out ok. Wednesday will be here in no time. I have no indication that I could be pregnant so I really don’t know what to expect the result to be.

How you doing snowy?

OP posts:
snowy1982 · 22/10/2017 14:57

CSDS I'm grand, distracting myself with some shopping today Smile

Blackcat, sorry to hear how tough you've been having it, best of luck with this cycle.

Cobblestones, when are you actually due to test? Keep up with the meds, you're still in the game

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 23/10/2017 06:50

Just checking in ladies. Fourth birthday weekend just finished for my IUI daughter, so been very busy.

You’re all doing a fab job of staying
Positive and keeping Busy to take your mind off things.

Blackcat - hello! I have a 4 year old IUI little girl that was conceived on my 3rd round, unexplained infertility, and am just here hopefully offering a bit of support. What a tough journey you had so far. I’m so very very sorry for your losses.

Snowy, hello again. Just wanted to say I had an awful experience having a coil fitted years ago which made me tense having a speculum inserted (kinda not arsed now after having an almost 10 pound baby Confused).

Anyway, I had some treatment privately a few years ago for some abnormal cervical cells removing and told the consultant my fears.

He used a plastic speculum instead of metal and it was so much more comfortable. He says always ask for one, he told me all NHS hospitals have them but prefer to use metal as they’re reusable. Worth asking if you didn’t already know, it helped me.

You could Also speak to your GP or the clinic about having something like a diazepam to relax You before your procedure? I have had one before one of the tests or procedures )can’t remember which) and it really helped.

Sorry about typos. Have got long false nails on and can’t get used to them!

Have a good week ladies and keep us up to date.

Xx

snowy1982 · 23/10/2017 12:05

Hi again toomany, have always had plastic speculums (except for the day it broke and doc used a metal one instead) for all smears, treatments and my abnormal cell removal and have never had any problems until the one that broke. I am getting better with it, every time i go and nothing bad happens i relax a little more.

Hope your daughter had a lovely birthday weekend Smile

snowy1982 · 25/10/2017 08:59

CSDS good luck for results today

Cobblestones · 25/10/2017 09:13

Csds will you get results today? All the best!!

AF hasn't yet arrived. If it doesn't by tomorrow morning I will test again.

snowy1982 · 25/10/2017 09:26

When was is AF due cobblestones?

csds · 25/10/2017 10:26

Hi all,

Been for my blood test, I find out the results later today.

After last cycle I’m going to let the call go to voicemail and listen to it after work, to avoid getting emotional at work.

My gut feeling is that it’s not worked but we’ll see.

How is everyone else getting on? X

Hi csds- keeping everything crossed
For you!

What time do you find out?

X

snowy1982 · 25/10/2017 11:02

That's good willpower you've got CSDS, I'd be attached to my phone all day. Good luck

Cobblestones · 25/10/2017 11:04

That's a good idea csds

Hi snowy - I had injected Monday evening two weeks ago so I think it is due now..

I just saw the counseller at the fertility hospital. It was great. Lots of practical coping strategies and tips and was good to just have a chat without worrying about how the listener is feeling..
