Consultant wants to see me tomorrow. This isn't good is it?

Supposed to be starting stimming today providing I got all clear from clinic regarding blood test they took yesterday.

Nurse has just rang me to say that instead my consultant wants to see me regarding the results of my blood test. I have to go to Guys tomorrow afternoon.

This isn't good is it? Nurse wouldn't tell me what is wrong apart from saying it might be something to do with hormones? I have low amh and I'm now terrified they are going to tell me they won't treat me.

So sick of this shit. I've been waiting months to start this treatment due to irregular cycles etc. I finally thought I was getting somewhere. I'm in absolute bits now

Just to say fingers x that it's a minor hitch.. were you down regging or doing short protocol? If the former could just be that you need a bit longer to down reg? I know the waiting is horrible so will be thinking of you x

The whole process is long with unexpected blips along the way so you have my utmost sympathy. Unlikely that they won't treat you but perhaps they need to adjust the treatment. Good luck

I'm on short protocol, no downregging. I really think it's bad news though. Guys think nothing of telling you upsetting stuff over phone, so the fact they won't tell me is a bad sign.

It was hormonal profile as far as I'm aware. Fsh, Lh etc. I'm guessing either my fsh is sky high again or my amh has gone down even more during the endless wait to start this process.

Perhaps they'll tell me I'm pregnant? (laughs bitterly)

No idea but best of luck. Maybe they found something and just want a minor change of plan...

Could be if your estradiol is elevated they need to scan you to check if you have a functional cyst that's giving off oestrogen. If so then they might need to postpone or aspirate the cyst

I had a scan yesterday Bananafish81 Nurse said all well, lining was thin and I could proceed with injections today pending blood tests. I'd been on Microgynon and haven't bled since stopping it which they seemed a bit surprised/baffled by.

I'm going out of my mind here. Wish it was 1pm tomorrow

Perhaps FSH levels mean suggested change in protocol? Might recommend a flare protocol rather than an antagonist. It's possible that they might recommend sitting a month out if FSH is particularly high, but not sure whether they would bring you in for a consult to discuss this. Totally understand your mind is racing and playing every possible scenario, whatever it is, it sounds like you are being monitored really well, and that whether or not there is a frustrating set back, that the level of monitoring bodes really well for them taking excellent care of you during the cycle. Fingers crossed for you

2 rounds of IVF here. I drive myself crazy during 1st cycle. Trying to understand what was supposed to happen next, what each step should be etc and where was I on that journey. Problem was, they could only tell me what was happening now, then make the decision about what to do next.

There are literally millions of permutations and your treatment can go in any direction. Every test result and scan is an opportunity to recalibrate and refine what they are doing for you. Consider it an art form!

Chill and don't second guess the experts, let them do their jobs and be ready to listen and work with them. Sorry if that sounds patronising. I found my 2nd round so much easier to deal with, even though I was still trying to deal with the heartbreak of the 1st round failing. We were 2nd time lucky, I really hope this works out for you.

I really think they would have happily discussed change in protocol over phone though tbh. It seems a bit extreme to drag me in there on a Sunday.

The thought of it dragging on fills me with dread. I'm getting married in June and I don't know what I will do if they coincide. My cycles are that irregular and long that things just drag out for months.

None of this remotely compares to the shit you're going through though, so I'll stfu about it now.

Just so paranoid as consultant was very negative regarding our chances anyway. Scared my fsh had gone up and she thinks I'm too much of a risk. Before she put me through she made it clear it depended on my fsh level not being too high. Miraculously it came back at 6.4. God knows how though as it had been 19.5 at GPs a few months before that. I didn't tell her about that test though.

It's the worst possible news.

My blood results from Friday indicate hormone levels concurrent with peri menopause. A fact that the clinic have managed to miss for the past SIX MONTHS. They have cancelled my IVF and made me an appointment with a consultant next month to discuss starting HRT.

So there's no IVF, no baby unless we try DE (Guys will ever so kindly put us on the waiting list if we can find ten grand down the back of the sofa) and I'm peri menopausal at the age of 38.

Varying between sheer disbelief and contemplating suicide right now.

Can I just say that Guys are quick to write patients off on the basis of a single FSH result

A friend was told by Guys she should go to DE because she had a month where her FSH was over 40

She went to see another Dr (I recommended she see my consultant, who is much more high FSH friendly) and actually after tracking her FSH for a few months, they cycled in a low month when it was just 15. She got 3 eggs and 3 top quality embryos.

Guys were so quick to write her off on the basis of a single FSH result - FSH can bounce up and down a LOT, have they tracked you month on month to see what your lows are (as well as your highs)

bananafish81 That's really interesting to hear about your friend. Can I ask the name of the consultant please? Pm me if you prefer. We can't really afford private treatment in this country to be honest, but we are strongly considering going abroad. Possibly to Serum who I've heard many good things about.

Guy's only took my fsh and Lh once before when I was originally referred. It came back low (think it was 6.5 and 4 respectively) I'd had it tested at GP's a few months before that and it was around 17.5 and 7.

I'm furiously pissed off right now. I feel like I could have gone another time and it could have been a whole different story. To take me from the brink of starting injections to "oh actually you're going into menopause" within the space of 48 hours seems wildly negligent of them.

The consultant even had the nerve to say she would put me forward for DE like she was offering me a lifeline! If I'd been less well informed I'd have thought I was being offered more free treatment. Really not acceptable at all

I will definitely be getting a second opinion. I've had little faith in Guys from day one and this has just confirmed why!

So they knew your fsh was already on one reading 17 I assume? And then they took it again on Friday? What was it on Friday?

If they are saying that the 17 reading means no ivf they should have told you this from the start!

It was 17 last September when I had it done at GP's. I can't actually remember if they got that reading though. I don't think GP sent them the results and I wasn't as aware of the significance of the numbers back in those innocent days.

I just know it was low when I had it taken the next month by Guy's, so they said go ahead. I was desperate for treatment so I didn't argue!

I don't know what it was on Friday. I was too upset to ask yesterday. The consultant just told me my levels indicated peri menopause and that I'm a dried up old hag (perhaps not that last bit, but she may as well have)
