Hello,

Is anyone else about to start a cycle?
I start down regulating on Sunday, estimated embryo transfer week beginning 21st Nov, this will be my first round of IVF/ICSI after 3.5 years trying to concieve.

Mixture of emotions, excited to be starting after waiting so long to get here, nervous about side effects of drugs and injecting and terrified it wont work! The joys of infertility!

Xxx

Hello ladies,

I just realised everyone had different treatment. I was on microgyno for 2 weeks until I had baseline scan, which they apparently saw some follicles (the doctor on my 2nd scan said so), then stopped for AF to come then straight on Gonal-F, then added Centrotide on day5 of injection. The first jab was nerve-racking!!! I was so scared but it wasn't bad at all. Centrotide was more uncomfortable. I have steady hands while DH is terrified for needles so I did it all myself, which I personally find it easier to manage. The first few times mixing Centrotide was quite confusing but you will jst get used to it and optimise your methods. My nurse told me to push the needles all the way in, which hurted an eff loads with the last milimeter. So if anything I would suggest just push most of it in, leave a tiny bit out your skin don't need to be in contact with the syringe/pen. Also, personally I find the 90 degree angle is much better than at an odd angle. Nevetheless, it was a relieve when the injection stopped.

Oh, my nurse also said Centrotide has to be injected in the evening so she suggest to do both at the same time in the eve. Perhsps it's differerent with different drug. My whole cycle seems very straight forward really they didn't alter the dosage once. Not sure if it's a good or bad thing.

kmmr it's only day6 please don't beat yourself up. Sending lots of good vibes and baby dust your way xx

liberte12 · 25/10/2016 08:00

Ekam didn't you have to go in for the first centrotide injection? Mine sounds similar to urs, I'm waiting for AF then il be on merional and then cetrotide on day 5 but the nurses do the first one coz they said they have to monitor it to ensure I don't have a reaction. I guess every journey and every clinic is different. What clinic r u at?

glasshalfsomething · 25/10/2016 10:05

Eek!

Egg transfer tomorrow - just had the call from the embryologist! 2 eggs going back in tomorrow lunchtime.

She said they're ready to go and 90% confident they'll both be put back in.

It's getting real now...

Ekam · 25/10/2016 10:09

glass that's excellent!!! Keeping everything crossed for you.

liberte No I just did it myself.... The needle mark gets quite itchy for about half an hour after injection but that was all the side effect I had. It's really good your clinic wants to monitor things closely. I'm at King's College in London

Ekam · 25/10/2016 10:11

glass, just remembered that mine is tomorrow two..... (reach out to hold hand)

liberte12 · 25/10/2016 10:56

Good luck to both of you!! Positive vibes x

Custardandcream · 25/10/2016 10:58

Kez well done on the weight loss. Pjs, chocolate and Netflix sounds like a great idea, I will be doing something similar with DH doing all the running around (just make sure you're stocked up the day before, we had to stop at a supermarket on the way back last time).

Kmmr it's still early, I know it's easier said than done but try and stay positive.

Glass and Ekam so exciting good luck for tomorrow

glasshalfsomething · 25/10/2016 11:18

ekam - we can do this! Positive thoughts radiating everywhere!

Quick poll:
I've got tomorrow (ET day) off work, and I'm on annual leave Friday.

Should I take Thursday off too? To rest up?

ekam what are you doing?

liberte12 · 25/10/2016 11:34

Glass I'm personally planning on taking at least three days off. U may as well take Thursday off and then go back to work on Monday. I would definitely take the day after off. Good luck I'm so excited for you x

Custardandcream · 25/10/2016 11:42

Glass I think it would depend on your job, if it's not stressful and your going to be sat at a desk all day I'd say that would be ok and it might help to keep your mind busy.

I found ET very odd, it's a simple procedure (not like EC) and you'll feel fine, I'm not sure what I was expecting really.

Ekam · 25/10/2016 12:23

glass I'm taking half day off (my appointment is at 2:30) and working from home on Thursday. Then back to work on Friday then it's the weekend. I have a desk job so it should be ok.

I think it's def a good idea to take Thursday off, too if you can. Really it's mainly for me to process the information and relax - as physically I read it's not challenging at all x

kezmarie · 25/10/2016 13:43

Hi everyone Smile
Ekam & Glass
Massive massive good luck for you both tomorrow!!!!! Hope all goes ok & smoothly. Sending lots of baby dust and sticky thoughts your way! Wink

Custard. Will definitely make sure we're fully stocked up shopping wise! Smile

Well I had my baseline scan, first blood test and injection demo from the fertility nurse this morning. All looks ok so far!
I'll be starting my menopur injections tonight (2 injections a night, not 1 as I originally thought!) & then back to the hospital for a blood test on Friday to see if I'm reacting OK to the jabs. Next scan is Monday Smile

ekam · 25/10/2016 16:25

I'm coming down with a cold.... just my luck!

Also, I have a question: (TMI warning) Do anyone take cyclogest? I have to take 2 a day, and when I go to the toilet I see quite abit of floaty white waxy bits that comes out ... I'm worried that I'm not getting enough dosage.

glasshalfsomething · 25/10/2016 16:43

ekam are you going in the front?

Someone else told Kez and I to use the cough back door on another thread

I followed the advice with first one today. Can't feel it, no mess, no need for liner.

Only problem is you've made me remember about it - dunno if it's disolved/still there or what! Shock

ekam · 25/10/2016 17:05

glass yes I use front door. I only read about back door today ... I'm kinda scared but might give it a try.

What if you need number 2 suddenly, or in my case, erm, gas (great side effect to have)? At least the front door doesn't share the exit with anything else. Confused

glasshalfsomething · 25/10/2016 17:29

Gas - my biggest side effect so far is no issue!

No.2? Well, can't report on that yet...I will attempt to share results when I have them!

It's just as easy to put in tho - box has directions!

Blueroses99 · 25/10/2016 18:08

Ekam & glass Cyclogest is absorbed in about 10minutes so don't worry about the waxy residue unless it is literally just after you put it in. I've done both and found it way more comfortable in the back door. I put it in after a number 2 (what can I say, I'm regular - sorry TMI) and it would stay in place with no mess. I think they advise resting for 20-30 mins if front? It's just personal preference. Good luck with ET tomorrow 😀

Kez good to hear it went well today and you're getting started tonight!

Glass I went back to work on the Monday after ET on a Saturday. As you have Friday off already, it might be nice to have a long weekend to relax but it isn't strictly necessary to avoid working Thursday.

I'm just waiting for my scan on Thursday. Hope I'm down regged enough.

I hope I'm not being precious but do you mind if we avoid "baby dust" on this thread? I'm on other baby loss forums and some get really upset by it as they do literally have ashes and I don't mind so much but it kind of has negative connotations for me now Blush

kezmarie · 25/10/2016 18:14

Blue. Thanks looking forward to getting started tonight now!
Nervous but excited!

And don't worry about being precious, I didn't know that term had other meanings. I do apologise. I thought it was a nice way of wishing good luck Blush

Okay sending positive vibes and sticky embryo wishes to everyone Smile

Hope2409 · 25/10/2016 19:51

Hi everyone
Massive good luck to both of you for tomorrow glass & Ekam xx
Sorry to sound so dumb, but the baseline scan - is that the scan I had on Monday (before I started the pill) or is that the one once you have been on the down reg drugs but before you start the stimulation ones? X

Custardandcream · 25/10/2016 20:09

Re the cyclogest I used the front door last time, my clinic advised that I should lie down for 30 mins after putting it in but also that the amount I was on (2 a day) was much more than I actually needed so not to panic about leakage.

Hobbes I can't help with the baseline scan question, I've never had one.

I have my first blood test tomorrow after 2 weeks down regging I really hope I'm ready to start stims

Hope2409 · 25/10/2016 20:17

Hobbes the baseline scan is the one once u have been on the down reg drugs but before u start stims! X

OP posts:
Blueroses99 · 25/10/2016 20:28

Hobbes I think baseline scan is the scan before stims whether or not you've been down regging, but the same scan can also be called a suppression scan after down regging.

Custard good luck tomorrow.

Hope I'm having a withdrawal bleed too and generally I'm feeling so out of sorts down regging. Don't envy you having another 2 wks of it!

Kez thank you for understanding. Like with infertility / IVF, there's a whole other vocab out there.

Hope2409 · 25/10/2016 20:49

Custard good luck with yr blood test tomorrow x

Yeah im feeling pretty out of sorts too Blue looking forward to moving on to the next stage probably with new symptoms im sure!!

Well my first lot of injections is over!!
The mixing of the menopur was more daunting then the actual needle going in!
Only 11 more days of injections to go ha!
