Did my first needle tonight was so nervous was about to inject myself when I dropped the needle, had to get it ready again, then I just paused when I had to inject myself hovering the needle over my stomach, I couldn't mentally do it, it was like being in a dream where you cant run any faster, I held my breath and did it, I didnt feel a thing, not even when I pushed the liquid in. Will keep posting how it all goes, would love to hear from other people..

Woop!!!! Short protocol for the win!!

Sorry ladies I owe you a proper update. Hysto on Weds went well and the neverending miscarriage should be drawing to a close. Proper reply with personals to follow!!

bananafish81 · 30/04/2016 17:33

Wispin so so pleased for you - so excited for more good news from the love lab

I was told that either the front or the back worked equally well, one nurse said ‘you could swap em around, why not mix it up!’ - I was told to use em up the bum the night before and morning of transfer, to make it easier for the catheter. Up the bum, no harm done! Grin

Hyland I had the full immunes tests done with a lab in Athens, for £300, instead of the £1500 the usual ones that go to a lab in Chicago cost. The £500 NK cells test doesn’t really give a lot of useful information - but tbh my consultant prescribes empirically (i.e. he doesn’t use the tests, he prescribes the drugs based on a history of failed implantation / miscarriage / autoimmune history), so the tests were really only for me to feel I’d left no stone unturned

How was the scratch hon?

Welcome smurfy and good luck, just don’t be afraid to ask your clinic lots of questions, I joke that my consultant probably groans when he sees my ‘notebook of doom’ come out, chock full of endless questions with which to interrogate him!

AFM and the never-ending miscarriage, everything went OK on Weds

The good news is that there were indeed some teeny fragments of retained tissue, so minute that makes sense they didn’t show up on ultrasound. Consultant said he might have got them first time round if he’d given the bowl a damn good scraping clean - but as I’ve said before, that would have left my lining in tatters, which would have been a disaster.

He said he took quite a while because he wanted to be really super gentle, even with the camera, so it was definitely worth doing - now everything’s had a clean and polish hopefully will get on track.

I’m going in for bloods on Weds, with the aim of starting stims as soon as my hormones are back to normal. Essentially we’re trying to find the right day to pick as ‘day 1’ - as there’ll be no period, as I’ve had two D&Cs so there’s no lining left! By starting stims as soon as hCG hit zero, the hope is that my FSH will be nice and low, having been suppressed during pregnancy

Still getting BFP on clearblue fertility monitor, but cheapie is BFN, so can’t be long to go till I’m officially un-pregnant-ed

Hyland · 30/04/2016 21:00

The scratch was momentarily uncomfortably, enough for me say ow out loud. I thing it was when they twisted the catheter as apposed to the actual scratching which i don't think i felt.

Same when i had saline scan i said ow ow two or three times!

I'm clearly just a baby lol

I was given two tablets to take both after the scratch and i did get thrush again which the nurse tells me is probably to be expected after such a procedure.

BANANAFISH Being without a miscarriage, it wouldn't surprise me if they refuse me the other medication unless i did other testing.

Plus the clinic gets another excuse to charge me another £500.

Not been entirely happy with mistakes the clinic keeps making, bad communication or not coming across very professionally or just getting stuff wrong.

I think i start my Stimms on Sunday next week.

bananafish81 · 30/04/2016 21:10

Ah hope you had a nice treat afterwards for being such a brave girl!!

The uterine biopsy the consultant did as part of my hysto serves as a sort of turbo endometrial scratch

Although he said he normally did the scratch for failed implantation, I'm pleased we did it because the new research from Prof Quenby and Brosens that was in all the headlines suggested the scratch could play a big role in helping to prevent miscarriage

I'm sorry you're having such a rubbish time with your clinic. As if this process wasn't stressful enough!!

Not sure when I'll be starting stims, but hopefully in the not too distant future. I think it's likely to be the same as before - short protocol with Gonal-F, starting on a high dose (450iu) and hopefully dropping down depending on response

Hyland · 30/04/2016 21:23

My dosage will be 262.50 (225 previously last cycle).

I was worried they had done scratch on the wrong day as i had read that all though ordinarily done on day 21. If taking Northosterone tablets it may be better to do scratch 4 days before last tablet! Nurse disagreed with my on-line findings.

I too have read a lot of positive stuff about the having the scratch done.

Made me feel better about paying the £375.

Also read that they use to recommend the scratch when IVF first cam about and then it when out of fashion. Clinics favoured other practices or whatever the case was and have recently decided to revert back to the beneficiary old days.

We will be having the Embryo Glue as this is included, part of the refund programme we have paid for with Access Fertility.

Smurfy1981 · 30/04/2016 21:31

Hi ladies, wee question- how long are the stimulation injections for- roughly??!

Hyland · 30/04/2016 22:14

9-12 days

Smurfy1981 · 30/04/2016 22:17

Fab thanku xx

Hyland · 30/04/2016 22:19

During your scan, when they measure size of follicules and quantity they will probably give you a better idea of how many more days you will take injections for. Then once they give you the time in the evening to take your trigger injection whether it be pregnyl or something else, then you will know exactly when you will have EC egg collection.

bananafish81 · 30/04/2016 23:00

Hyland I read the same about the scratch - I read Prof Robert Winston’s latest book about fertility a little while ago, and whilst he was very dismissive about a lot of techniques being sold to patients that he believed had little evidence behind them, he was v much in favour of the scratch

£375 is a lot! My Dr charges £100 for it.

I’m sure the timing is perfect - I don’t think it’s especially precise, it’s just most beneficial if done in the cycle prior to your transfer cycle

smurfy what Hyland said - it will vary depending on your response, I stimmed for 12 days the first time, and 11 days in my second cycle

Smurfy1981 · 01/05/2016 09:13

Thanku ladies, ur are all fab, ur info is invaluable to me, in time i will understand everything ur talking about lol 😊

Triplets for WISPIN, pleased the quality is looking good.

Wispin · 02/05/2016 19:24

They have assured me that putting three back in is ok if one doesn't make it , it's gets absorbed ....does any one know any more.....? Although triplets would be the best thing ever...xxxx😀😀😀😀

I think I asked similar questions as they put 2 back for me.

Was told the same that a high risk both could implant or one might not take and literally just dissolve.

I was expecting perhaps a bleed but apparently not as the lining stays in tack for the surviving embryo(s). Then the other just vanishes like it never was.

I would be happy with 2 or 3 but unfortunately my clinic wont put back 3 unless 40 or over.

37 on Friday high hopes for this cycle for us all.

Wispin · 02/05/2016 20:35

Thanks Hyland... Are you doing anything nice for your birthday...?.

Day off work, but havent been told what we're doing.

Hoping i dont have full on menstrual cramps as my last tablet of Norithistone is Tuesday evening.

I can see two implanting for you easily. Wouldn't that be lovely...

Smurfy1981 · 03/05/2016 21:48

Wispin · 03/05/2016 22:32

Good luck smurfy

bananafish81 · 04/05/2016 07:06

Good luck smurfy

Yes anything that doesn't implant gets reabsorbed basically

Most people who put back two day 3-ers don't end up with twins

Friend who did have two blasts put back is happily pregnant with one - although in her case both apparently did implant, however only one heartbeat at the first scan (but another gestational sac visible). Known as 'vanishing twin'

UK is v v strict about number of embryos we allow to be put back cos of risk of multiples, obv 3 are only allowed over 40 because chance of all 3 taking is smaller.

But could still happen!!!

Girl on another forum I'm on had two day 3-ers put back (she's about my age I think, 34ish). First scan reveals two heartbeats. But identical twins!!! So only one stuck. But that one turned into two!!

Now this is very very unusual

And the younger you are the more chance that each embryo you put back will stick

But weird shit still happens

TV show in the US about a family with quads. I thought, god, another one where irresponsible Americans put a handful of embryos back at once (no legal restrictions there)

Nope. Two blasts put back.

Both split.

Two sets of identical twins. Ie 4 babies!

Now that is sooooooo unusual. But kinda like to think well hey if that can happen, maybe I can get pregnant and have a baby!!

bananafish81 · 04/05/2016 07:07

And yes happy birthday in advance Hyland

Off for my bloods - see if I am officially finally un-pregnant-ed

Been getting BFN since Friday so I bloody hope so! Checking all other hormones so really really really hoping we are good to get going soon....

Hyland · 04/05/2016 09:09
