After 3 full failed IVF's last year, I am about to embark on my second last attempt. I started an IVF thread during my last IVF, and everyone got pregnant but me. So I swore I wouldn't do that again this time. But I find myself wanting to chat with people going through what I am, so I am starting the thread again. Join me as I seem to be a BFP magnet!

Carrie what day are you on now? Won't they up your meds if need be? Good luck, less than an hour to go. Fingers crossed.

Oooh Liquorice won't they see you tomorrow?

carriebella · 24/04/2014 20:08

Its cancelled for me. Good luck everyone else x

Liquoriceallsort · 24/04/2014 20:09

Sorry to hear that Carrie.

purplemeggie · 24/04/2014 20:12

No blood test from my clinic. I have a weird urine test - it's a plastic rectangle and you have to pee in a container and then take three drops with a pipette and drip it onto a window in the plastic rectangle. Probably exactly the same gubbins inside as the bog-standard shop ones!
One more sleep. No, I'm not sleeping particularly well. Never do when there's big stuff happening and there's other stuff going on to keep me awake, too....got a brother ill overseas and we're trying to bring him home and getting tangled up in red tape. Aaargh! Although we seem to have made progress on that at long last, so hopefully I won't be worrying about that tonight!
Woo hoo, Walter! That's all very exciting!
Liquorice - don't count it - if it's stopped it doesn't count Smile!
Carrie - looking forward to news!

Shellster52 · 24/04/2014 22:44

I am in Australia Purple and that uriine test you describe are standard over here. Obviously not the norm there? Either way, I am anxious to see what result it gives you!

Carrie, hope you feel okay about things. It's so frustrating waiting but sounds like the right choice to give you the best chance. Hopefully I get to cycle along side you after all so we are not alone. I've forgotten if you have an infertility diagnosis? Will you be able to try naturally this month with 4 juicy eggs to ovulate?

OP posts:
Liquoriceallsort · 25/04/2014 08:27

That's a good point shellster, odds must be better for a natural conception if you are able to?

purplemeggie · 25/04/2014 08:35

So sorry Carrie (your post didn't show up when I posted mine last night...I wouldn't have just ignored it and wittered on about pregnancy tests, I promise!). Sending a big hug.

I tested at 5 am after tossing and turning until then...it was a BFN Sad. I thought it would be...the spotting had turned into light bleeding during the day and definitely AF now. So relieved my EC got brought forward: if I'd been on the original schedule, this would have happened on Monday and I'd have been leaving for a 2-day business trip immediately afterwards. As it is, I've got a nice weekend away planned with DH and DS. It will probably be somewhat subdued, but at least it's not a room full of in-yer-face lawyers!
Interesting about the tests. The ones we get over the counter look like this. They're about £8 for two - you can get a digital version, but I'm not sure why anyone does that because they're really expensive and the battery doesn't last so you can't keep a lovely BFP. I tend to use these which you can pick up on eBay for a few pence each. After all, if you've played the infertility game for a while you tend to get through them, don't you?

Liquoriceallsort · 25/04/2014 09:07

Purple Sad sorry to hear that x You sound like a very strong and positive person, and yes it is very good that you are able to spend the weekend with your family.

Have you thought about what you would like to do next- have a break or try again?

WalterAndTheAstronauts · 25/04/2014 10:00

Ooohhhhh Ladies :0(

Purple sorry to hear it's not good news! been thinking about you & had everything crossed Sad

Carrie sorry to hear your cycle has been cancelled Sad

Nothing I can say to either of you will make you feel better but I've realised what a hard journey IVF is and I hope you both find strength to carry on. Enjoy your weekends as much as possible & be easy on yourselves xx

carriebella · 25/04/2014 10:05

Purple, A hug right back at you. There are no words thatcan help the disappointment you must be feeling. I hope you can bounce back, take the positives from your cycle and try again soon.

Thank you shellster and liquorice, the nurse said to try naturally but off the record! She doesnt want the blame for multiples. We will give it a shot but as I always ovulate on my own with no success and dh sperm count is low I don't hold out much hope. Does anyone know when you ovulate after stopping meds and how long it will be before I get af?

purplemeggie · 25/04/2014 13:21

Thank you all you lovely ladies. Yes, we've got our Frosty in the bank, so we're going to try a FET. Apparently we sit this cycle out and then I call up on CD1 of the next cycle, start buserelin on cd21 and go from there. I've put my marker down for wanting an endo scratch for next time, as I wanted one this time but the timings were all wrong. Back on the rollercoaster we go.
It's obviously massively disappointing (and I could have done without pictures of my colleague's new baby dropping into my inbox today!) but we said at the outset that we'd give ourselves two full fresh cycles and any Frosties that we were lucky enough to produce in the process would buy us a few more spins of the roulette wheel.

I'm probably putting on a bit more of a brave face than it sounds...there have been tears this morning...
Good luck with EC, Walter and with baseline scan Liquorice.

Liquoriceallsort · 26/04/2014 06:36

Walter is it EC day today?

Happilymarried155 · 26/04/2014 07:36

Hi everyone,

Sorry about your bfn purple, hope your ok. I had endo scratch yesterday, I'm not going to lie it did hurt but only for a few seconds and if it works it's worth it!!! I also signed up for embryoscope. Im a week into down reg now and touchwood, feel ok! It's also so good for my mental well being to feel like I'm doing something useful!!!

Hope everyone else is doing well, good luck for egg collections etc....x

Liquoriceallsort · 26/04/2014 07:54

Hi happily,

What part of your cycle did you have the endo scratch? I have my baseline scan this morning am I too late?

Happilymarried155 · 26/04/2014 08:22

I don't know really because I think difference clinics do it at different times, I had mine on cd25 of down reg but I don't know if it has to be done at this time, it's worth asking.

The doctor I saw yesterday was very informative and gave me lots of information on why it was a good thing to have done and how it improved success rates by between 15-20% so i don't think it's ever a bad thing if you can manage to fit it in! Good luck with your scan x

purplemeggie · 26/04/2014 08:29

Thanks everyone. I'm okay - obv sad, but it was our first go....we'd have n
Been beyond lucky for it to work just like that. And we have that Frosty.

Liquorice I had a chat with my clinic about ends scratch for next time. My clinic does it in the down-regging cycle, but apparently it needs to be done when the lining is thick. I was due to have mine on cd28, which was later than they would choose, but we didn't discuss it until my implications appointment, and that was on cd21. We ended up having to cancel the scratch because I'd already started af.

Good luck with the scan x

purplemeggie · 26/04/2014 08:30

Endo scratch....damn autocorrect!

Shellster52 · 26/04/2014 10:47

I have been so anxious to check this post purple and this is the first chance I got. I know the pain all too well. The only way I manage to go on is to do what you seem to be doing - go to plan B. (I think I am up to plan N now!) There just seems to be no rhyme or reason. Some have a 'bad embryo' put back at day 2 that becomes a BFP. Others like you have an embryo make it all the way to day 5 so it just has to implant at day 6, yet you get a BFN.

I thought you would have a day 5 embryo put back in 5 days after you ovulate in a natural cycle. Why would you need to take Buserelin from day 21? Excuse my ignorance. After 6 IVF attempts, I've never had the luxury of having a frosty!

OP posts:
Liquoriceallsort · 26/04/2014 14:03

I was too late for the scratch, they also don't recommend for the first attempt necessarily.

Purple I hope you have a nice weekend away with your family.

purplemeggie · 26/04/2014 17:11

Shellster apparently they suppress ovulation with the buserelin, then give you tablets to thicken the endometrium, the do the transfer. Not quite sure why....as you say, waiting for 5 days after ovulation ought to do the trick!
Thanks Liquorice. Actually, it's just what the doctor ordered. I have a passion for cathedrals and decided I wanted to visit all the ones in England. We're in Ely, Cambridgeshire and it's peaceful and beautiful.

purplemeggie · 26/04/2014 17:13

....and thank you, Shellster for your kind words x

Shellster52 · 27/04/2014 00:37

Yeah, not sure why they would artificially thicken your lining as opposed to waiting for the correct time naturally - guess I will find out if I am lucky enough to get a frosty on my 7th IVF attempt! As long as it does the trick for you. Hope I am not stressing you out by putting all these questions in your head! I am such a bugger for details.

Your holiday sounds lovely. Maybe I should organise a family outing today when my sleepy husband ever wakes up.

Hi Ladies, how is everyone? Just back from my business trip...drank too much wine last night and sobbed on a colleague, herself a veteran of IVF...she was very lovely and supportive. I have been off the booze for ages and a little went a very long way.
How did the EC go, Walter?
Shellster - I'll have a read. Hope you're doing okay.

Liquoriceallsort · 29/04/2014 20:56

Hi purple,

Nice to hear from you. A little definitely goes a long way if you haven't been drinking for a while. Glad your colleague was supportive.

Are you planning on trying again next cycle?
