This was so insenstive and selfish. I was just cringing. What a nob!

But we know that already eh???

marthamoo · 12/08/2005 15:19

John McCririck is such a prat.

spidermama · 12/08/2005 15:20

He's an utter f*kwit. How insensitive and inappropriate. Grrr!

NomDePlume · 12/08/2005 15:20

Nice.

monkeytrousers · 12/08/2005 15:29

I saw that too, and was totally apalled. A funeral is not the time for petty political backstabbing. I felt for his wife and sons.

Collapsed on a Scottish mountainside whilst on a walking holiday, Beety

BBC news report from 6th August

expatinscotland · 12/08/2005 15:36

'Hypertensive heart disease' was the post mortem result.

In other words, undiagnosed high blood pressure resulting in heart attack. They don't call it 'the silent killer' for nothing.

MascaraOHara · 12/08/2005 15:36

Some people. Has he no shame! I feel for Robin Cook's family as that is what will be remembered now. It will be raked over on the TV and in the papers.

SaintGeorge · 12/08/2005 15:46

I heard part of what McCririck had to say on the radio and agreed with what he said about Blair.

Only caught some of the bulletin though so didn't realise he said it as part of the eulogy. He's an insensitive prat.

I just thought, hmmm, this coming from the man who went on Celebrity BB? Nuff said really, he's an attention seeker in desperate and terrible need of of affirmation. He unfortunately does not know the correct way to go about it. Tw*t.

MascaraOHara · 12/08/2005 15:52

Just because there were cameras and such there he shouldn't have forgotten the fact that a family were burying a much loved father and husband. The more I think about it the more angry I get.

Even if he was right that was absolutely no place for what he said, i think it's disgusting.

I dunno St. George, I'm all for panning Blair but only for the right reasons. This was just opportunism at it's worst on the part of McCririck. As Peter Hein said, he works day and night for the rest of the year and needs this time with his family. We shouldn't begrudge him that surely? He'll be leading the memorial service when he gets back. McCririck said it was an insult to Cooks family, and who is he to say that? He isn't part of that family? He's hardly in the position whatsisface was in at Diana's funeral, is he? He's just a socially inept idiot.

OP posts:
homemama · 12/08/2005 16:16

I've thought he was an idiot since he came out with all that rubbish about young men commiting more crime these days because women have taken away their 'identity' by coming out of the home and demanding equality!
A funeral is about family and dignity not cheap shots. Old fool!

SaintGeorge · 12/08/2005 16:16

I did say I only heard part of it monkeytrousers.

The part I heard I agreed with, sorry but I am entitled to my opinion.

Caligula · 12/08/2005 16:17

I was absolutely amazed by it. TBH I thought he was right - there is something unseemly about Blair not being there. But really, not the right time or place to express your anger about it, but then, that bloke is a great big ego and not much else.

harpsichordcarrier · 12/08/2005 16:31

JMcC once came to open a new betting shop where I was working and while we were having our photo taken he groped my bum.

not exactly relevant I know but I had forgotten all about it until I read this thread.
am now very cross about it on behalf of my 18 year old self

monkeytrousers · 12/08/2005 16:36

Absolutely Saint George! It's not often I stick up for Blair, believe me!

Oh harpsichordcarrier, you lucky lucky girl!

He was right with his sentiments - echoed by those applauding from the Royal Mile. Definitely not the time or the place, though.
