This was so insenstive and selfish. I was just cringing. What a nob!

Harp - sue!!!!!!!!!!

What a repulsive little man he is, to be sure. And just the type to think he has the right to manhandle a young girl. What an absolute creep.

Tinker · 12/08/2005 17:18

Not read thread yet but thought he was a twat for doing this. All about him. And arselicking about Thatcher at RC's funeral!

Tinker · 12/08/2005 17:21

Oh good, everyone's agreeing.

On the other hand, he did say all of this during the week, surely if Mrs Cook or his sons did not want the eulogy hi-jacked, they could/would have made sure that he knew how they felt on the subject.

I do think it was the ultimate insult to great man.

However, I fet that Gordon Brown's eulogy, was for some he knew and loved and it didn't smack of spin to me.

I never had anytime for Gaynor Cook either way, but today my heart was breaking for her.

Caligula · 12/08/2005 17:29

Was Margaret Cook there? (What's the etiquette on that?)

Yes she was and the Minister mentioned her in the opening address, and Gordon Brown mentioned he as well.

MascaraOHara · 12/08/2005 17:30

I don't think that was wrong as such cod, they are his immediate family now.

if dd's father died i would expect dd to go the funeral with x's family (I would not attend)

Ooh how awful

Yes John McC does seem an odd choice.

I think it's very odd that they sat with her, not with their mother.

It must be a very awful thing for Margaret Cook. Sometimes, it's more awful when someone dies who you have loved and haven't been on good terms with, than when someone you have an unambigious loving relationship with dies. When my father died, his sister, who hadn't spoken to him for 10 years, was far more grief-stricken than his other siblings who were on normal terms with him.

Caligula · 12/08/2005 17:37

Just listening to john mcc on PM. How utterly inappropriate. It's just staggering.

Wasn't she sitting on the same bench, just slightly away from them? I didn't recognise her at first, he's gone a little grey. She did look very lonely. But they were probably trying not to sit in the same frame.
